Percy: And you know what the worst part is?
Jason: That you have to get over this without calling Annabeth for the 20th time?
Percy: No
Percy: Yes

genuinely one of the worst things that’s happened to television in the last few years (exacerbated by streaming services) is death of Filler. going from 20 episodes to 8 because “we didn’t really need that episode where the main characters went to the beach right? it had no long lasting effect” but we DID!!! we needed to see how they act without the Big Bad Plot and to establish the dynamics between the characters and lay in the sun (do they forget sunscreen? how do they react to a thieving seagull? do they get buried in the sand or do they do the burying?). the plot isn’t everything. the action doesn’t hit as hard without the quiet moments. give us character development and our little scenes back

Really, if you think about it that's the weird part. Children are obliged to fight the wars but adults just try to get through everyday life completely rejecting their demigod identity?? Like as soon as demigods turn 18 they leave camp.
Demigods who made it into their adult years is a fun concept because I'm just imagining a random son of Athena on his late thirties who's like, a Math teacher or something, watching the news about "the storm that was destroying half the country" and seeing through the mist that that's fucking Typhon and seeing his mom and the other gods fighting him and just. Wondering what the fuck did he miss lol

I get your point but I think we've gone from one extreme to the other. Percy in the show is too smart. He's figuring stuff out way too fast for a 12-year-old and that takes away the edge-of-the-seat suspense that the books had.
I seen a lot of people argue at Percy is too smart in the show but One, Sally Jackson used Greek myths as bedtime stories, she took him to museums, she did her best to teach him about the God's and monster's that were gonna come to hurt him, was he ment to not learn anything? And Two, Perseus Jackson isn't an idiot! The books are from HIS point of view and he's is an unreliable narrator that THINKS he's an idiot. He's not ACTUALLY an idiot.

My only issue with the changes is that they used the Roman version of Medusa's myth, written by Ovid. In Greek Mythology Medusa is born a monster not turned into one and the version they used villainizes Athena in a way I don't really enjoy.
changes in the show so far i really really like:
"not everyone who looks like a hero is a hero and not everyone who looks like a monster is a monster"
grover training percy using mythomagic cards
percy burning blue candy and praying to sally instead of the gods
"i am SALLY JACKSON'S son!"
the consensus song :)
updating the way medusa's story is presented to acknowledge that's she's a victim while still being a threat ("we are not our parents, until we choose to be" banger line!)
echidna actively seeking the trio out
percy sacrificing himself at the arch. gave that entire scene a lot more narrative weight and percy absolutely would do that!!
the water reaching out and grabbing percy. this was more to correct rick's little geography error but it's great that it works so well both ways, giving poseidon a more active role in saving percy

#Something something about Annabeth expecting help from her mother because she was always the perfect kid but getting sent to her own death and Percy expecting nothing because he doesn't believe in his dad and despite everything being saved from death by him
