my top bit of advice going into the new year: compliment people. especially strangers. literally everyone you interact with if you can. when you buy coffee in the morning compliment the barista's tattoos. when you're chatting with a coworker tell them that by the way you like their outfit. always find something they've chosen to do on purpose. nail polish, jewellery, tattoos, hair colour/style, statement accessory, outfit, etc are all good bets. things people hope will be noticed. things that aren't too personal so it doesn't make them uncomfortable (eg probably not their physical features). i've gotten into the habit of scanning everyone i talk to for something about them that i think is cool so i can tell them. it's a great habit because it makes me notice people and realise just how many neat little details there are in people's presentation of themselves that might pass me by if i wasn't paying attention. and it brings out so much joy. you'd be surprised how much it disarms people to receive an unexpected compliment from someone they don't know. it is the most sincere smile you will see all day long. it feels nice to make people happy but it also means you win the social interaction. establish dominance by complimenting a stranger's earrings and disappearing into the fog

Apparently a lot of people get dialogue punctuation wrong despite having an otherwise solid grasp of grammar, possibly because they’re used to writing essays rather than prose. I don’t wanna be the asshole who complains about writing errors and then doesn’t offer to help, so here are the basics summarized as simply as I could manage on my phone (“dialogue tag” just refers to phrases like “he said,” “she whispered,” “they asked”):

“For most dialogue, use a comma after the sentence and don’t capitalize the next word after the quotation mark,” she said.

“But what if you’re using a question mark rather than a period?” they asked.

“When using a dialogue tag, you never capitalize the word after the quotation mark unless it’s a proper noun!” she snapped.

“When breaking up a single sentence with a dialogue tag,” she said, “use commas.”

“This is a single sentence,” she said. “Now, this is a second stand-alone sentence, so there’s no comma after ‘she said.’”

“There’s no dialogue tag after this sentence, so end it with a period rather than a comma.” She frowned, suddenly concerned that the entire post was as unasked for as it was sanctimonious.

something i noticed while rewatching atla, whenever zuko is shown sleeping on his side (rather than his back), he always sleeps on his scar, so he can still hear while he's asleep. as far as i can recall, that's the only in-show proof that he's deaf in his left ear. and i love it.

Some ramblings & opinions :)

I rewatched Digimon Adventure Tri and I have to say, it flows so much better watching it straight through than week by week episodes. Like, I understood the story this time around. Or maybe it's cuz I watched the dub version and they added dialogue that made more sense to me.

For me, Tri was never that awful. I think when it got to movie 4 & onward I was confused and there were certainly plot points that could've been developed better. However, as a huge Adventure fan (Digimon was the first anime I was pretty obsessed with), I was so excited to get anything out of this series. What I love about Digimon is the character building & I thought Tri did very well on showcasing the struggles.

I know a lot of people didn't like Tai throughout Tri (honestly many were very confused about him like Matt), but I thought it was pretty realistic. But maybe it's cuz I study a lot of human development lol. But I like where they took him & how he matured. He grew into a great, rational leader. It didn't surprise me that Tai started considering the damage of the real world into his plans. As much as people label him as impulsive, he was pretty tactile & big picture. This was displayed in the battle against Piedmon in Adventure. And I'm saying this as a huge Tai fan. Tai is the reason I love Adidas lol (I really had shoes just like his when I was in middle school lol).

Now Meiko. She gets a lot of hate, but watching this full through I don't see why. I thought her scenes were necessary for driving the story. When you watch from the beginning & straight through you really see how her story is what drives Tai's. Maybe I'll do some analysis post in the future but it's pretty evident that they're complementary? stories. I don't think she's that bad. Not my favorite person but tbh I'd be questioning my self-worth just as much as she was had I been in her boat. No matter how much reassurance you get, it's not uncommon to fall back into your insecurities. Poor thing, she was more like a plot punching bag.

In any case, this series made me cry. Again. There were some really beautiful moments. There were some things I wish they put more thought into (like TK & Kari's mega evolutions just seemed to lack impact but maybe it's cuz we saw them already). Otherwise, can I just say I loved how often they changed clothes & hairstyles? I absolutely loved it! And I'm guilty of this, but I enjoy the ship baiting. I wish things would've just been explicit at some point. (*takari*). I just think the most confusing thing was Matt & Sora. Like... Wtf are they? Lol. I do like Meichi, but I wish they just added more dialogue between them before movie 5. Like.. I mean they sit next to each other in class & are freaking neighbors, how did they miss so many opportunities? -.- eh. On another note, I'm happy that Kari got a lot of screen time. She's always been my favorite. I think the saddest/real thing she said was that the reboot wasn't so bad cuz of Plotmon. My poor baby 😭

Well, that's all. So excited to watch Psi while waiting for Kizuna to come out haha.

“‘Hoshiai no Sora’ ended its TV broadcasting today with episode 12. But the story has a continuation, and the drama of the characters will move even further from this point onward. It was originally a 24-episode story, so it was scheduled to have one more cour and complete itself three months later, thus there is a 13th episode with direct connection to it. There was a sudden change of plans this spring that made it a 12-episode broadcast, but there is the fact that we have taken over two years to make it, and the animation work of the main story was on-going, so we decided that making it into a 12-episode composition at that point was impossible, thus we made 12 episodes of it while keeping it a 24-episode composition. I had the desire to make this series into something unlike average animes, so this might also be a 'Hoshiai no Sora’-like way of ending the broadcast. I want to make the story of the remaining 12 episodes and be granted an opportunity to show everyone Maki and Touma’s future. I think now is a time in which the media itself is in the height of change as well, so I believe it might be interesting to see how 'Hoshiai no Sora’ will turn out. I would be happy if the people who have watched 'Hoshiai no Sora’ until now could cheer us on so that we can make a sequel.”

Mental Health Stigma

It's definitely upsetting when your relatives don't believe in "mental health". I told them I go to therapy and I'm almost ridiculed because I "need help". It's unsettling. That's it.
