when i was younger, dealing with my own dysphoria, i remember writing a fanfic where izaya had gotten top surgery and there was this really lengthy, kinda cringy [possibly problematic], purple prose section where i described the ~symbolism~ behind izaya slashing at shizuo's chest/scarring him in a similar place and u reminded me of that so thank you

Okay i LOVE your transmasc izaya headcanons BUT. Can i give you some transfem ones too??? Because i love both equally as much. Anyways i just like thinking of Izaya as transfem, but like. In the very Nonbinary way. Like he doesn't feel like either a man or a woman, but maybe closer to woman..ish??? And maybe his Kanra persona online is his way of experimenting with it 👀 but also he literally tells no one. MAYBE Shinra knows, because... Shinra is Shinra. But Izaya's very secretive, he feels like if it got out it'd make him feel way too vulnerable. It'd surprise me if he ever actually tells anyone. He'd need a LOT of character development, and even then, he'd probably only tell a very close partner. Speaking of, in a world where him and Shizuo actually get together, i think that character development that leads him and Shizuo to get together would be the same character development to get him to be comfortable with coming out to him, and only him. Because he's already vulnerable with Shizuo, he's got comfortable there, and i think Izaya could eventually get comfortable enough to tell him that. Eventually. And also because i love his relationship with the twins, i love the idea of him coming out to them too 💜

I went through your 10 chapter per volume outline out of curiosity and like, the first volume would have that sort of "ooh shit's not just fun and games" feel to it that's relative nice and tied off...... and then the rest end on like cruel cliffhangers shdsdgs it's kinda awesome though I see the vision!!

Right??? I wish some volumes would end on different chapters because it's a bit awkward to have the high point of chapter 25 in the middle of a volume. But other than that it tends to work pretty well

- Izaya figures out pretty early in life and when he meets Shinra in middle school he already has a pretty good passing- Shinra is like "oh yeah hormones are pretty easy to find, I can get some for u". A few years later, he'll be known for home brewing hrt.

- Izaya wears a binder until he meets Shizuo in highschool. Outrunning Shizuo in a binder is Hell. He meets Shizuo and then he goes straight to Shinra like "you have to get rid me of These". Shinra goes Oh I see. (I know what you Are dog pic) Yeah I can definitely do that

-Izaya gets his surgery at Shinra's and has to stay there for a few days because there's no one home to monitor him, and he doesn't want the twins to see him bedridden, but it's the worst few days of his Life. Having to endure the pain AND Shinra 24/24.

- Shizuo chases him around after surgery because Izaya is out too soon. fuck around and find out, Izaya gets major chest pain and has to stop during a fight because OUARGH ARGH

- Shizuo finds out (Shinra probably outs him because he's a sociopath and doesn't see how it's bad to do that and/or just want to see what would happen.) What happens is Izaya is Very Mad at him about it whereas Shizuo SOOOO DOESN'T CARE OH MY GOD

- Shizuo's even a bit angry on Izaya's behalf? Like 'hey that's kind of a shitty thing to do. I wouldn't want you to say private stuff about me to other people what the fuck". And Izaya is. Weirdly touched.

- It's not only that Shizuo doesn't care, he Gets It. Very straightforward logic. It's so evident to him that "you don't feel like a woman? then you're not a woman. You don't have to be one, what the fuck do you want me to tell you?" and Izaya, who hasn't heard anyone say anything like that to him before, feels so much lighter. Shizuo Gets It.

- Izaya's scars look a bit messed up because Shinra did a poor job (he was 15 and had never done it before) and Izaya did not take care of them very well

- He regularly skips injections. it's been a long time he just forgets he's trans sometimes.

- Only Shizuo, Shinra, Celty, the twins, and that mf Shingen know about it

Not many! But I like that they're both unreliable narrators and that a lot of things are implied, so some of my interpretations could be considered headcanons? See under the cut

I like to think that the moment Izaya realizes he's in love (and he's been in love with Shizuo for a long time) is at the end of chapter 15. When Shizuo saves him and Izaya have a little breakdown because he didn't know he was capable of THIS. Maybe it's my non native english speaking ass, but to me "this" doesn't refer to anything explicit, it's not about the physical sensation. It's a sort of continuation of his thoughts in chapter 7 when goes "my love's always been grand and all encompassing, it was never directed toward One Individual, but now I've broken my principle, I can't love Broadly like that anymore, what else does that mean for me?"

To me it's "he didn't even know he was capable of Having These Feelings" and "oh god of fucjk these feelings are called having a crush" and "wait how long has it been there what the fuck"

In the body pile, Shizuo sees a watch and suddenly feels very sick, and I find it funny that the Only other mention of a watch was when Mura showed them his watch to bargain. I like to think that Shizuo thinks it's Mura in that pile, and even if he didn't like him, knowing he's walking on the corpse of a man he talked to only a few hours prior makes the situation Very Real and horrifying.

Izaya is so very touch starved actually and I think they should hold hands a little more than ONCE in the entire fic. After the 48 hours have passed and they're walking next to each other and Izaya's hand keep brushing against Shizuo's. In the cave when he's sick. When're they're rescuing people and talking about that date at Russia sushi.

Other than that, it's my usual shizaya hc that have traveled to aci. dimpled izaya AND shizuo (izaya has one on each cheek, shizuo only has one close to his mouth). trans izaya (the numerous dick jokes? he's compensating). There are others you'll probably see in the comic bc my hc influence the way I portray things, but there are not so much headcanons as artistic liberties at this point lmao

hey i know it's a loooong long time away but have you already thought about how you'd go about adapting the super long aci chapter that is 48? I assume you're mostly gonna stick to the chapter counts in the fic butt maybe you already have plans to diverge in the way you split up certain stuff idk but that would be one looooong chapter to draw

That said, there's also a lot of stuff that can be "condensed". The part between the moment they arrive at the hotel and the moment they go into the city, and even the part between the moment Shizuo loses Izaya in the crowd and the restaurant scene, which are pretty long in the text could actually become two comic pages. There are very few ellipses in ACI, stuff is happening All The Time, but I can do a bit of skimming through

IDK i just like the idea of them being absolute nuisances together. they're insufferable. no one likes them individually and when they're getting along it's worse. they be fighting and thrashing and biting each other one moment and then one of them goes OK TIMEOUT I have meal prep to do/I chipped my nail/you ruined my make up/you ruined my hair what the fuck, and then they're back to normal
