hey. first of all, i'm sorry. i totally meant to mention that i'm still doing comedy and in fact i told jokes at the melbourne international comedy festival (as in AUSTRALIA), but the time got away from me. i also performed my show DON'T REACH IN THE BAG at the moontower comedy festival in austin (as in TEXAS). my bad. i should have said something. but i'm saying something now. and if you live in or near portland (as in OREGON), PAY ATTENTION: i'm doing DON'T REACH IN THE BAG at the Clinton St Theater on Friday, May 26! (i'm also doing a coheadlining set with dulce sloan at the same spot on saturday, may 27, but it's really about y'all coming to my solo joint.) grab your tickets here: https://www.kickstandcomedy.org/shows/kickstand-presents-shalewa-sharpe-dont-reach-in-the-bag-w-dulc-sloan i'll try to do a better job of keeping you in the loop, okay?
why, yes, of COURSE i'm doing my show again in brooklyn.
this time, i'm at littlefield. it's a larger room than i've done before, but i've decided to not stress out about that part. instead, i am more excited than ever to present it to y'all!
that said, pleeeease get a ticket or two and come out. it's only ten bucks in advance! that's so reasonable! kenice mobley is opening! she's so fantastic!
happy hallowe'en, if you partake. if you don't, then rest up, baby - i'm doing shows this week!
how is that different from any other week? well, i appreciate your belief in how often i'm getting on stage. it's dropped a bit since covid arrived. but i just received more masks and i have a few premises to test drive, so i'm ready to go!
these shows are in the new york city area (one is at the end of long island. seriously. it's where the island ends.) and the first one is a storytelling show. just wanted to let you know. i'm feeling very "full disclosure" lately.
(addresses and times are on my calendar, under SHOWS SHOWS SHOWS.)
look at this - it hasn't been a year since my last post. we're really trying!
anyhoo, i hope you're all doing well. "well" is a broad term, considering what's happening in the USA right now, but i hope you're finding tiny moments of joy and relief.
i'm doing the show again! thursday, 7/21 in brooklyn, at a delightful spot in crown heights called FRIENDS AND LOVERS. i'd be thrilled if you could join me and check out the show and fall in love with it and spread the word with your friends and/or enemies. i'm really trying to create a thing here.
my annual "i'm gonna be better about posting!" post, apparently.
hey there. my last post was 366 days ago, so i'm right on schedule.
we're trying to crawl out of a pandemic but i don't think that's how pandemics work. i've been doing in-person shows but i lurk in corners, masked like a hero/villian, until it's my turn to speak on the mic. i haven't really been promoting these shows cuz i feel a little weird about coaxing y'all out. if you're cozy in your bubble, who am i to pop it?
THAT SAID, i am still performing my solo show about working in a porn store, DON'T REACH IN THE BAG, and it would mean so much to me if you decided to come out and watch it. i'm whipping it into shape; this newer version is somehow goofier AND more personal?
i'm doing it on sunday, june 5th at union hall in brooklyn. i'm also doing it at the hideout in chicago in the fall. and i'll be performing it plenty of times in between. (that last sentence is a manifesting one.)
here's the brooklyn link:
and here's the chicago link:
come on out, keep on your mask, sip with a straw, laugh at my show, ask me questions during the Q&A portion, think about something i said just before you fall asleep!
hey there. okay, first things first - i cohost a podcast with the sublimely hilarious Gastor Almonte. it's called The War Report and it was Gastor's idea. He thought it would be cool to talk about current events with me. i don't know how his brain works but here we are. we've done quite a few episodes - i'm not sure how many because i don't handle the numbers. or the sound production. or the research. basically, i show up, turn on my mic & webcam and prepare to talk with with gastor. my contribution is very valuable. you can listen - actually, you SHOULD listen - but you can also watch: gastor tapes us every week and posts the videos on his YouTube account. here is a link to those. the episodes hit the streets every thusday, with a bonus episode on mondays. check us out!
HAHAHAHAHA! oh wow, it's like i disappeared for over a year, huh? my goodness. well, what's going on with you? okay, but for real, though - while i spent most of 2020 hiding out in my home (like all of us SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOING, AHEM), i still managed to get some stuff done. i told jokes over Zoom! i started a podcast with the fantastic Gastor Almonte! i rediscovered sweatpants! today i woke up and thought, "time to get my life together." that might be a side effect of the covid vaccine, but i'm still going to give it a try. and i'll start by updating this bad boy. if you're here, thanks for finding me. if you've been here, thanks for sticking it out.
guess who's on the list? no, guess again. nah, again. who? do they even DO comedy? okay, i'l give you a hint... it's me. IT ME! i'm on the list and i'm so very grateful.
here's how my weekend's looking. when i get a minute, i'm going to compile some stuff i've done over the past few weeks. podcasts, articles, etc. a nice little one stop shop for all my...huh. i don't have a name for my fans yet. well, for the tens of you, there will be some stuff.
just call me a day late. as long as you call me! i need sleep. here are my shows 8/13 - 8/19. shows of note: 8/16 - the lab @ friends & lovers in brooklyn. that's experimental comedy from black comics. it's the brainchild of kenice mobley. i went to the first one last month and it was fantastic. i'm doing a character that relies on my knees working, so prayers up, y'all. free show. 8/17 - tinder live @ littlefield in brookyln. hosted by lane moore, three comics goof on tinder, but like, right there, in person. i don't trust algorithms but my ovulation week begins that day so it would be nice to pull some strange, hahaha. lordt. 8/18 - macauley culkin show @ bell house in brooklyn. brett davis, sally burtnick, and "macauley culkin." these shows are wild, but this one is notable because for perhaps the first time, it will be happening in a venue with air conditioning.
hey there! once again, a lot of shows in a week. gotta get the word out about this album. for more show details, like addresses and stuff, go to the side menu and click "shows shows shows" for my calendar. take care of yourselves. it's rough out there.
hey, y'all. i'm doing a lot of shows over the next week. for more info - and by that i mean the venue addeesses - scroll down on the side there and click on SHOWS SHOWS SHOWS. that's my show calendar.
hey, what's up, hello. last year, baron vaughn asked me to do his upcoming tv show, The New Negroes. so i dusted off my (seemingly) dirtiest material and i told some jokes. the weekly series will begin friday, 4/19 at 11pm on Comedy Central. please please please check it out. the powers that be have decided to release the hounds (the hounds being my entire set) a little early. i can't properly express how thrilled i am to be on a comedy central show. i am super proud of it. enjoy.
tonight i will be on 2 dope queens on HBO. it will be my first time doing a proper comedy set on national television; jokes i wrote, agonized over, forgot and remembered. i've been at comedy for 9+ years. i'd love it if you'd watch one of my assignments tonight. friday. 02/15/2019. 2 dope queens. HBO. 11pm. if you don't have live HBO, it'll be streaming afterwards, so wrangle up one of the 13 passwords that's floating around the nation and check it out.
okay. in one week i'm recording an album. my second album. that is wild. i'm going to release it on my girl shonali's label, little lamb recordings. shonali & i go back like rotary phones and i'm honored to do this with her and jason lam. we're recording at union hall, in the park slope neighborhood of brooklyn. i've got my dude rufat agayev hosting the show and my all-time ace courtney fearrington opening/warming it up for me. that cow artwork is courtesy of charlie rohrer. i'm excited to make an album. i'd love to do it in front of you. again, union hall in brooklyn. sunday evening, january 27th, at 7pm or 9:30pm. 10 bucks, shawty. if you're a planner, here are ticket links. SEVEN! NINE THIRTY!
