Our 21st release comes from label founder, Shamik. Meteor expresses the heavy feelings created by unexpected events that spiral into a deeper sadness. The song’s first recordings were created in 2018. To trigger different workflow ideas, and after feeling overwhelmed with too many electronics, Shamik simplified his production and turned to one synth. He pressed record and put down layer after layer. He then sampled and resampled the audio to make soundscapes out of the synth melodies. Returning to this project while experiencing long covid, Shamik finally finished Meteor, nearly 3 years later. The audiovisual release features a full music video by Esther Bogorov. It too was a long project, built over three years of change and conversations. The visuals are a pursuit of patterns of movement through which a new space can evolve. Using code and natural building materials, Esther researches and designs visual narratives and narrative landscapes.

Our 20th release comes from multi-disciplinary artist, Ruby Singh. The album was built and shaped using field recordings captured on the beautiful west coast of Turtle Island. Ruby also used plantwave technology to convert electrical data from plants and fungi into midi, Uno, Arutria & Micrologue synths, and analogue delay pedals. It's a 5 part audio/visual series aligned with the solar cycle. It began on last year's winter solstice, and will continue forward until this year's winter solstice.
"This suite was created to be a source of reflection, respice and rejuvenation. Reflecting on our relationships and connection with ourselves, each other and the more than human world. Rejuvenating a sense of wonder for the natural world and how we might be able to move into right relations with the lands, waters and sky that nurture us." -Ruby Singh

Ruby Singh - Flora & Fungi
This composition of light and sound is an offering to mark the winter solstice and our collective journey through the longest night of the year. This piece was composed using the biosonification of Flora and Fungi with plantwave technology. May this work allow us to reflect on our interdependence with each other, the planet and the more than human worlds. As the light returns, may we grow inside us, a deeper well of hope to hold the difficult days. This was created during a residency at Deer Lake Park on the territories of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking people.
Released December 21, 2021.

Ruby Singh - Amaryllis.
This composition of light and sound is an offering for the autumnal equinox. The sun is moving towards rest and the chilly nights dive deeper into the dark. The word “equinox” comes from latin meaning equal night, light and dark share the sky as partners. In the annual ritual of growth, harvest, death and rebirth it is time for harvest. Amaryllis in greek means “to shimmer,” shimmering is the dance between light and dark. May we recognize the intelligence of nature, let it move through us and let it guide us. We are gravely out of balance with the natural world, may this piece serve as a centering for anyone that needs it. This piece began as a composition for a play named “Amaryllis” and as Ruby began to expand it, it was clear it wanted to bloom under that title. The six petaled flower is reflected in the moving mandelic sequences of fall ripened maple leafs, filmed from the shared ancestral and present day territories of xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ/Selilwitulh Nations. This is part 4 of a 5 part solar cycle series “The Polyphonic Garden Suite 1.”

Ruby Singh - Eutrophic Inception
This composition of light and sound is an offering for the summer solstice. When the sun reaches its highest point in the sky, we experience the longest days and shortest nights of the year. The Earth in all her glory seems to bow from the north pole towards the centre of our solar system. May this piece allow space for you to explore your relationship to light. Though these are the brightest days we face dark truths. May we become containers of light to hold these truths, so we can hold and enact the possibilities of radical transformation. This piece contains underwater footage of the shallow canal that joins 2 lakes from the shared ancestral and present day territories of the Klahoose, Tla’amin and Homalco Nations. Ruby visited these lakes for the past 20 years and they have gifted him immeasurable insights and lessons, including the understanding of what it means to be buoyant. The music was created with thoughts of the first plants that might have grown in these waters to what they have become now.

Ruby Singh - Breaking Sky
This offering of light and sound is to mark the Spring Equinox, when we experience earlier sunrises, later sunsets, softer winds and sprouting plants. We hope this allows space for you to explore your relationship to the sky and all sky beings. From the outstretched budding branches to the feathered relations and all of our sky kin.  As the light grows stronger, may we draw on that fortitude to feel into and create courageous spaces in our lives to press forward towards justice. This piece contains a dawn chorus field recording from the shared ancestral and present day territories of the Klahoose, Tla’amin, and Homalco Nations. This is part 2 of a 5 part solar cycle series marking our journey around the sun. All love to you dear ones.

Our 19th release comes from Ashwell Woodland out of Vancouver which is the ambient project from Laine Butler. 460215 is a touching album mourning the passing of his father. Experiencing the loss gradually led to creating a musical outlet for the difficult days. Modular synthesizer was the main instrument used in the recordings, for its sheer possibility for boundless, simultaneous expressions. Ashwell Woodland’s creation of generative melodies triggered experimentation and sculpting of sonic palettes over the course of time. This was time spent grieving but also channeling the grief into a healing album through endless hours of movements in the modular’s capabilities.
