It's rare to see John Cho at conventions. His last one was years ago. What are the chances John and Karen Gillan might eventually attend the same event in the future? They're both represented by United Talent Agency. 🤔
Julie Anne Robinson, director/executive producer of Selfie and Bridgerton, directed a couple of episodes on the new Doctor Who series! Premieres on Disney Plus and BBC iPlayer this May.
The show's 10th anniversary will be on September 30, 2024. If you would like to celebrate and show your love for the show, I encourage you to create fan art, fan fiction, gifs, image or video edits, etc!
I know it's early, but I just wanted to give a heads up and you can always queue it for later. Please use the tags #selfie abc or #selfie tv show or #heliza, so I can find your posts to reblog at the end of September. You can also tag me here or on Twitter :)
After watching the recent episode of Mythical Kitchen with Karen Gillan, I wish Karen and John Cho could have done something similar together like Netflix's Tastebuds. So they can swap meals and talk about their projects lol
AVC: Keeping in the rom-com space, I was a big fan of the show Selfie you did with John Cho. It only got one season on ABC, and later on Hulu, but I wanted more. It was too short-lived!
KG: Oh, I loved that TV show. Oh, that was so, so much fun to work on, and such a challenge. Like the amount of dialogue I had in a day that I had to get through was all-consuming. I remember, like, every night working for hours to learn it, and then just having to go to sleep and wake up and do it again. But it was such a good training ground.
AVC: Did you ever imagine you’d be working on an American sitcom? Or did you always want to do that?
KG: Oh, I did. I grew up like a massive fan of Friends. Like, that was the greatest. It’s still the greatest thing that was ever on television. And so to be filming an American sitcom across the road from the stage where they filmed Friends was like a sort of trippy moment in my life.
AVC: I must admit it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that it was My Fair Lady, or I guess Pygmalion, right? It should have been obvious from the names, Eliza Dooley and Henry Higgs. I mean, come on. But you and John Cho had a lot of chemistry. You were both great in it.
KG: Oh, he’s the best. I love him.
Karen Gillan talks about Da'Vine Joy Randolph's Oscar win
Speaking of different genres you've done, your Selfie co-star Da’Vine Joy Randolph recently won an Oscar for The Holdovers. What was your reaction to the movie and her win?
I loved The Holdovers. I thought she was brilliant in it. And I actually worked with Paul Giamatti in another film as well, and they were both brilliant in it, so I was really, really, really happy to see that. It was just so cool to see her up there on the stage, and I was really chuffed for her.
Been rewatching Selfie on Facebook since it’s the only place it’s available (WTF) and it holds up so well. So smart and funny. All of the best femme shows just get attacked by reviewers and execs who they’re just not made for and are never given the chance any show needs to build an audience. Drives me crazy. And so many of them aren’t given dvds and are pulled from digital stores with an insane quickness. Selfie, The Secret Circle and Stalker not being available for purchase since they aired is beyond fucked up.

INT. BRYN’S APARTMENT -- MOMENTS LATER
Eliza follows Bryn through her apartment, a den of girly creativity with dream catchers, chevron stripes, antlers and typography posters. Bryn motions to a plate of sandwich art.
BRYN
Would you like a tiny sandwich made to look like a baby grand piano?
ELIZA
No, thanks. Are you baking something?
(Bryn smiles, proudly.)
BRYN
That’s my homemade floor scrub. I make it with orange rind, vanilla beans and brown sugar-- which is an excellent scouring agent.
(As Bryn crosses to her vintage armoire and looks through her dress collection, Eliza discreetly grabs the spray bottle of floor cleaner and pumps a few shots onto each wrist. Behind each ear. Then directly into her mouth.)
INT. HALLWAY -- LATER
Henry knocks briskly on Eliza’s door. After a moment, she answers. Her wild curls have been blown smooth. Her makeup is subtle and demure. She looks lovely. Elegant.
HENRY
(flustered)
Well. If you don’t mind my saying, Jennie Garth has nothing on you.
ELIZA
Thanks.
HENRY
And you smell remarkably well.
ELIZA
That’s floor cleaner.
HENRY
Oh! Well. Shall we?
