Pompeii was an ancient Roman city that was buried by the great eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD Being buried so violently and suddenly, the city has an excellent condition, showing most of its buildings, decorations, and even the remains of some of its inhabitants. It is believed that the city was founded by the oscos in the seventh century BC, and over the years became a rich city, full of palaces, monuments and gardens. Pompeii enjoyed great prosperity when in 62 suffered a major earthquake that severely damaged the city. While still continuing reconstruction efforts, in 79 there would be a tragic event that marked the course of the history of the city. One morning the volcano Vesuvius awoke with great force, his ashes buried under the city completely. The city lay forgotten until it was rediscovered in the sixteenth century. Excavations began in 1748 and have since been unearthed more than 45 hectares of land.
