I decided to create a modern interpretation of one the symbols of the Four Evangelists. I chose to do the Winged Lion which symbolises Mark the Evangelist, the author of the second gospel account. The lion is believed to represent courage and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Book of Kells folio 27v represents the four evangelists, it is one of the most frequently copied manuscripts.
F. 48R shows two animals. Their species were marked unidentified in my school copy of the book of kells. I decided to add them into the drawing to add some extra design into my page. At first I was considering adding the Chi'Rho page symbol or the symbol of St. Mark and St.Luke from the lunette of a canon table, F. 5R (1:2).
