night of disquiet
He fucks her like a he’s a man lost in the wilderness and she’s the spring he finally finds. His touch is reverent, and his wandering mouth blesses her heated skin as if with prayers. In the haze of pleasure, she almost forgets the sin that she carried.
Almost, but not quite.
Her hands, caressing the column of his neck, hold an echo of violence. The memory of force, when in her grip she crushed the throats of her sworn enemies. And on her lips remain the deceptive sweetness of poison, the same one coursing through her veins.
She can barely keep this hidden in the face of his true nakedness. Confronted with that painfully honest gaze, where she can see the shadow of heartbreak, the wounded cry of unrequited affection.
It is not so, my love, she thinks, as she bears the weight of him, and welcomes his release.
You are wrong. And far, far too good, to deserve this corruption.

HER HANDS | A GiyuShino FanFic (One Shot)
Hey guys! Here’s my very first Kimetsu No Yaiba (specifically GiyuShino) fic. I’m still not so familiar with their characterization the way I am with Naruto characters (specifically SasuSaku) so I hope this is okay somehow. I really loved Giyuu and Shinobu’s characters so I hope I’ll get to write more about them soon! Let me know your thoughts! :D
Warning: Manga spoiler.
Disclaimer: I do not own KNY.
o - o - o
Her hands were soft, gentle. Giyuu could attest to this not because he has held them, but because they held him.
Shinobu’s hands carefully caressed his wounded cheek, arms, and then his torso, leaving traces of healing on them as he lay half-asleep inside a room at the Butterfly Estate. He barely remembered what transpired in his battle with one of the kizuki. The only thing that ran inside his mind after being badly injured was the need to see Shinobu so she could heal him with her hands.
And that’s what she did.
Her hands were powerful, magical. And it wasn’t some sugar-coated descriptions to his fellow Hashira for he has personally witnessed what else these hands could do.
Giyuu found himself standing in front of the Butterfly Estate one Saturday evening. Unsure if he would be welcomed by his teammate, he casually went inside like every single time he has visited whenever he had minor and major injuries. That’s when he found Shinobu in her office, with a vial in her gloved hands and lots of bottles with colorful liquids in front of her.
“Good evening, Tomioka-san. Is there anything I can help you with?”
The Water Hashira froze, astonished to be caught even without making his presence known. He cleared his throat before speaking, thinking quickly about what he should say in the same way he strategized in battles. “I…wanted to spar.”
He then heard a gasp and saw some drops of liquid spilling on the table as Shinobu turned to him with widened eyes.
“You…with me? Are you serious, Tomioka-san?”
He looked away. “I’m not a joker, Kocho.”
Shinobu tilted her head to one side before giggling all of a sudden, the sound melodic to Giyuu’s ears. “I know. That’s why no one likes you.”
Giyuu simply stared at her blankly, causing another cackle to escape Shinobu’s lips.
“Anyway, I would love to spar with you. But I have something to finish first if that’s okay with you. Do you mind, Tomioka-san?”
“No.” It was true. Yet his curiosity got the best of him despite not wanting to intrude. “What are you doing?” He approached the Insect Hashira as she returned to her work. And up close, he was able to see the labels of the concoctions in front of them. “You made all these?”
Shinobu smiled. “Yes!” And then she slightly turned towards him to show him how she was concocting a poison. “This…is what I put on my sword. It instantly kills, Tomioka-san. But I’m trying to upgrade it. Hmm…I wanted something that would kill a demon even with just the scent of this liquid.”
That’s when Giyuu knew, that even though Shinobu wasn’t a one of a kind swordsman like him, she was just as powerful, probably even more. And it was all because of what her hands could create.
Her hands were tiny, cute. Giyuu wanted to brush off the thoughts but he couldn’t help it as he stared at her hand while she pointed to the sky.
“The moon is beautiful, isn’t it, Tomioka-san?”

Summary: Shinobu wants to buy a new haori for Giyuu. (Giyuu and Shinobu)
“I don’t know why Shinobu’s upset.” Giyuu sighed into his cup. Across from him, a few of the other pillars listened to him. He went to the noodle shop and found that they were already eating inside. They forced him to sit with them with a bowl of salmon with radish. He eventually told them about his disagreement with Shinobu.
He wouldn’t call it a fight but it was clear that she was angry when she left. Before he left on his mission, she offered to buy him a new haori so he could stay warm during the trip. Giyuu insisted that he didn’t need a new jacket. He thought he was being polite. A week had passed since then and he wondered if she was still upset with him.
“You are terrible at romance.” Uzui said bluntly and Giyuu didn’t disagree with him. He loved Shinobu and did his best to make her happy. Unfortunately, he wasn’t the most refined with words or social cues. “She wanted to buy you a gift but you rejected her offer. If one of my wives gifted me with a haori, I would buy them five necklaces in return! That’s how you romance a woman. Flamboyantly!”
“I don’t think a necklace will help.” Aside from her butterfly hairpin, he didn’t see her wear jewellery often. In battle, jewellery could become restrictive as well.
“Tomioka, did you tell Shinobu why you don’t want to replace your haori?” Himejima offered his advice.
“Welcome back.” Giyuu looked up towards the voice to see Shinobu standing on the roof. After he finished eating with the other pillars, he went to the Butterfly Estate. Her footsteps were so light that he hadn’t noticed her approach earlier. She gracefully jumped down from the roof to stand next to him.
“I heard you returned from a difficult mission.” Despite the smile on her lips, there was a hint of worry in her eyes. He could read her thoughts and he understood how she felt. Since they were demon slayers, death always looked over them. They didn’t know if they would see each other the next day. “I wanted to see if you were hurt but it seems the only casualty on your mission is your haori.”
“It can be mended easily.” He shrugged. Her eyes fell onto the haori in his hands. They both fell silent as they remember the last time they talked.
“If you’re going into town to have it mended, we can go together.” She suggested. Aside from missions and pillar meetings, they couldn’t see each other often. They patrolled different regions as well. While they traded letters, she missed him. “I want to buy Kanao some treats in town.”
“I don’t need a new one.” He said but she appeared doubtful. Giyuu had owned the mismatched haori for years and it received many cuts and patches in that time. She thought it would be more sensible to buy a new one rather than repairing it again. Demon slayers were well paid so she knew he could afford a new jacket.
“You already said that.” She pouted but a smile quickly replaced her frustrated expression. He wished that she wouldn’t force herself to smile so often. Shinobu took his hand and he let her lead him down the road to the village. She wasn’t physically strong like he was but he thought she had her own strengths. “I have something else in mind.”
Once he saw her secretive smile, he hoped she didn’t plan to embarrass him in town. She had a sweet face but he knew she was sharp and cunning. He stopped and she looked back to him over her shoulder. “I don’t want a new jacket. This one has a lot of sentimental value to me.”
He reached up and gently brushed his fingers over the butterfly in her hair. Giyuu stepped closer and he closed the space between them. His hand moved from the hair ornament to cup her cheek. He rarely let himself be vulnerable with others or talk about his past. He chose his words carefully before he continued, “This haori belonged to my best friend and my sister.”
Grief briefly passed through his blue eyes. She knew that his friend had already passed away and the jacket was a memento. Since she lost her sister, she understood why he didn’t want to replace the jacket. Everyone in the Demon Slayer Corp had lost someone important to them. Shinobu placed her hand over his and squeezed it gently. “I carry them with me. It’s a reminder that I need to become stronger.”
“I understand.” She said softly. Unconsciously, she touched her own butterfly cape. “I wished you told me that before I bought you my present. You said you didn’t want a jacket so I got you something else. It’s not a haori so close your eyes.”
He did as she said and he felt her fingers run through his hair. Giyuu heard her mischievous laugh before she tugged on his ponytail. He opened her eyes and saw her wide grin. Her eyes reflected her smile and the sight made his heart flutter. He loved when she had a true smile. “Was that just a trick to pull my hair?”
“After everything we’ve been through? It hurts that you would think I would trick you like that.” She pretended to be hurt but he appeared unconvinced. She chuckled and pointed to his dark hair. Giyuu touched his ponytail and felt something cold and hard. He pulled it free from his hair and found that it was a small, butterfly hairpin. “We can match now! It’s even the same colour as your eyes.”

Summary: Giyuu asks Shinobu if people truly dislikes him or if she was teasing him. (Giyuu and Shinobu)
“There’s nothing more satisfying than training new recruits and helping them become stronger? The next generation of demon slayers is very promising.” Shinobu spoke with a wide smile on her lips. She glanced to Giyuu for a reply but he was silent. Shinobu couldn’t read his expression and she poked him for a response. “You must see potential in Tanjirou at least.”
Her remark was once again met with silence but she stopped herself from groaning. Beside her, Giyuu watched Uzui train the younger slayers. Neither of them participated in the training. While she had her own reasons, she didn’t know why he decided not to join. He was a talented swordsman and she could easily picture him gaining a mark with enough effort.
“You’re terrible company if you stay silent like this, you know? You should put in the effort to make small talk at least.” Her blunt words weren’t dulled by the smile she wore. Giyuu could sense her anger and frustration beneath her carefully maintained expression. “This is why you only have three close friends.”
“… Do people dislike me?” He echoed the words she told him long ago. At the time, Giyuu thought she used the comment to distract him and kill Nezuko. He couldn’t help but think that there was a hint of truth in her words after a tense meeting with the other pillars. Giyuu was distant but he didn’t believe people hated him. “They don’t trust me.”
Demon attacks had come to a halt but they both knew the peace was temporary. Muzan must have a plan and the Demon Slayer Corps needed to be prepared for his next attack. The pillars were training hard to gain the mark yet he couldn’t bring himself to do the same. Giyuu spoke his thoughts out loud without intending to, “They know I’m weak.”
“Weak?” She repeated and looked up at him. Shinobu almost thought she misheard him since his voice was barely a whisper. Yet, she only needed to see the resignation in his eyes to know that she hadn’t. She never thought he would consider himself weak since he was a talented swordsman. The other pillars told her that they thought he was distant and arrogant.
Looking at him now, she could only see a lonely man.
“The pillars know you’re strong.” She whispered back. She couldn’t tease him like she usually would when she saw how vulnerable he was. Shinobu wondered if he had intended to be so open with her. “The only one who thinks you’re weak is you. That’s another reason you’re annoying to us.”
“You said that I have three friends.” Giyuu said.
“Tanjirou, Master Ubuyashiki…” She counted them off her finger. Shinobu grinned up at him and added, “There’s me of course. You’re fun to tease. I’m sure the other pillars will grow to like you if you just relaxed for once. Of course, we have to work on you lack of social skills. I think I have the perfect friend to help you though.”
“With your methods, I don’t know if you’ll be helping me or torturing me.”
“Giyuu, this is Tora. Isn’t he the cutest thing ever?” Shinobu introduced him to the new friend she thought would help him. Staring at the cat in her arms, Giyuu questioned if she was making fun of him. “I found this little guy on one of my missions. His leg was hurt so I brought him home. He’s still healing so you need to be careful with him.”
She gently handed the cat to him and he cradled it against his chest. The cat turned in his arms so it was difficult to hold. Shinobu took his hand and lightly guided it to over the cat. When the small animal settled itself in his arms, she grinned up at him. “Just relax. He can sense if you’re tense and it’ll make him uneasy. Now talk to him.”
“About what?” He asked and looked down at the cat. Its large, trusting eyes stared up at him and he rubbed its stomach. Shinobu petted the cat as well and their fingers brushed in the fur. He blushed slightly and took his hand back. “Will this teach me how to talk to others? I don’t think I’m that bad anyways.”
“This is practise so you can tell Tora about anything that’s on your mind. He’s a great listener. Whenever you have time, come to the Butterfly Estate and talk with me or Tora. You can tell us anything you want.”
“If we defeat Muzan soon, I can visit you two often.” They both smiled at the thought.

Five Giyushino drabbles borne from one-word prompts
(Because I’ve had this sitting in my docs for half a year now and forgot to post them)
((Contains spoilers))
.
.
i. Vicious
Shinobu is tenacious in her fighting; she’s graceful, fleeting— dancing between enemies in a blur of translucent wings, just as her Breath would suggest. She is a Butterfly girl, after all, and so she is airy and elegant by association.
Giyuu is reminded, however, as she stabs through the skull of a demon child with a viciousness at odds with the smile on her face, that wasps are insects too.
.
ii. Night
They are both insomniacs. Although that is hardly a surprise, it comes with the job description. They’re nocturnal hunters, prey turned predators in the long-winded fight to eradicate demons. Nights are bloodied and tense and full of grief. Mornings are spent buried in the clutches of sleep.
Even so, there is a serenity to be found together, sitting on the cracked roof of the Butterfly estate, a cacophony of stars the only eyes to watch them in the dark.
.
iii. Lawless
The law of existence is that it is lawless.
A universe that created demons has no room for sympathy, nor care for the fragility of human emotion. It is discord under the guise of order. A wolf in sheep’s clothing. A demon in a human’s skin.
Cruelty litters the outside world, but it becomes the foundation of the Infinity Fortress’s walls. There is no room for closure between these twisting corridors.
“Caw! Caw! Kochou Shinobu is dead!”
Existence is lawless, and Giyuu is reminded of that for a third time in the middle of a demon’s lair, with only a crow’s piercing shrill to deliver the blow.
.
iv. Creek
Shinobu has been trying to pin the flow of Giyuu’s Breath for ages.
He does not thunder in a rolling wave as other Water users do, nor does he hold the mystery of deep open waters. And, despite coming from the same teacher, he does not bring the respite of a sunshower as Tanjiro does.
Originally she had deemed him a pond—still, silent—but that did not stick; because while he ignores even the most basic socialization, Giyuu does not stand idly. He still flows along, determined as the other Hashira to meet their shared goal.
It isn’t until they hop moss-soaked rocks over a stream that she has her epiphany.
Ah, she realizes, watching the freshwater break through rocks, I suppose he’s the smooth trickle of a creek.
.
v. Rolls
He’s just leaving the Butterfly estate after a particularly nasty fight, his side still sore from the burn of poison when one of the girls approaches him.
He only barely remembers her name, Aoi, because she was the one who had treated him, (despite Shinobu being the poison specialist, he hadn’t seen her in the building at all that day). The girl all but shoves a warm bag into his hand that smells like sugar and honey.
“Lady Shinobu heard you were here and asked me to give these to you,” she glares, the look had made him nervous at first, although now he’s learned that she is simply in a perpetual state of indignance, “as an apology for not being there to treat you. They’re leftovers. Have a good day, Tomioka-sama.”
He chews on the bread rolls as he walks to his estate.
.
.
Thank you for reading :)! I have another giyushino oneshot in my docs from a while ago. It’s like 1k words and a modern au, but I have no idea how popular gsh is anymore so if anyone wants me to post it, I will. Otherwise it’s staying in my Google doc.
