While few folks may pick up a comic solely because the lettering is good, BAD lettering can absolutely ruin a comic.

Emi Gennis did a WONDERFUL talk about lettering principles at CXC, and it's a must-watch for comic-makers learning their craft.

I can think of precious few lectures on comics stuff where I agree with every single point, but I agree with every single point on this one. I've considered making a balloon placement video, but now there's no need to, anything I might say is said here.

I spent some time in Rouen - more than I intended because a windstorm smashed up some railroad tracks and all departures were delayed until the following day. Here's a cafe in front of the train station where I was biding time for a few hours until they officially cancelled everything, theretofore only delayed.

SAINT JUSTO, THE CHRISTMAS SAMURAI WHO MAKES YOU PANCAKES.

Saint Justo was a daimyô during the Sengoku period, but his adherence to Catholicism saw him banished from his beloved Japan. He went into exile in Manila, and grew terribly ill from his grief, but wanted to hold on until the Christmas season was over. And when midnight struck at the end of Candlemas, he gave up his ghost.

And now, Saint Justo, having been canonized by the Catholic Church as Blessed Justo Takayama Ukon, and having served you Candlemas Pancakes (or Crêpes, depending on where you live), will use his big sword to chop up whatever decorations you haven't put away. SO PUT AWAY YOUR CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS!!!

Sorry to say farewell to Nance, a character I really liked but who sadly has no place in the reworked manuscript. She was very specific to a plot that is still intact enough that I'll likely not find use for her in a future story. C'est la artisanat. Goodbye, Nance!
