This reminds me of my deceased grandmother. For 2 years before she passed she was in a nursing home due to dementia. We went to visit her one day and it was a bad day for her, very confused and didn't really recognise us but we were sitting and chatting with her and a few of her friends she'd made in there. One of the old ladies asked me "do you have a husband yet dear?" and in a moment of clarity my grandmother says "you can't ask her that, she's a lesbian!" There was silence for a few seconds before the same old lady patted my arm and went "that's alright dear, one of the nurses is like that too. I'll point her out for you next time she comes by" in the next couple of minutes everyone had basically forgotten about it and my grandmother went back to telling the same story she'd told before then but she remains the only one of my 4 grandparents to openly acknowledge my sexuality as an actual thing

you might not agree but part of activism is knowing to choose your battles, because what do i care if my eighty year old grandma doesn't know the exact correct terms to refer to lgbtq+ identities as long as she supports and respects everyone, what do i care about the old man in the almacén that isn't online so he doesn't know every aspect of feminism who told me happy women's day when he understands the issues women are put through and supports the fight, I'd rather be met with truly kind and concerned ppl who care and have been in this fight far more time than us than all these articulate young people who at the end of the day don't truly give a shit

So two of my friends and I just started playing Gloomhaven today. We have an Inox Brute called "Boris", an Orchid Spellweaver named "Crystal" and I'm playing the Vermling Mindthief that I called "Cheshire". So we had our first road task and it was that we had to decide whether or not to help the group of Inox's on the road:

F1 - I feel like I need to help them because they're my people

Me - Well I'm hardly going to argue with a walking tank, I'll help and as a favour to you I won't kill or eat any of them either

F2 - Stop threatening to eat everyone!!

Me - I just said I WOULDN'T eat them! I can be nice!

So we go along a bit and finally reach our first cavern and as F1 is reading the description of it and reaches the passage that says "who would choose to live here?" we get:

F2 - She would!! This is exactly the place she would want to be in!!

Me - Of course I would!! This is exactly the place my swarm and I would love! Once we clear it do I get to keep it? I'm willing to eat all the corpses afterwards!! *Cackle*

F2 - ......this might be a mistake. You're a little bit too much like your character

F1 - Yeah. Maybe we keep an eye on her. Just promise you won't eat either of us if we end up dead

Me - Do I get to keep your stuff?

F1 - Sure why not

Me - Yeah alright, I can do that

And then we proceeded. It's an amazing game and I recommend it

How did I not hear about France banning hijabs? What’s going on?

long story short, there’s legislation in the process of being passed that would

ban girls under 18 from wearing any form of religious head covering in public, and although it’s obviously aimed at muslim women, it would also affect other faith groups that practice similar forms of modest dress

ban islamic swimwear in schools and public (there is already a modest swimwear ban in place at public beaches, this just extends it)

ban mothers wearing hijab from entering schools or participating in school field trips or extra curriculars

ban the slaughter of halal poultry - the cheapest and most easily accessible form of meat protein for the muslim community

extend school hijab bans to universities

prevent muslim women from choosing healthcare providers based on gender (which many muslim women prefer to do, since many exams require removal of clothing, etc)

ban muslim parents from homeschooling

force halal markets to sell pork and alcohol or face closure

ban foreign flags at weddings
