I love your Thomas barrow×richard Ellis drawings so much, all of your drawings are beautiful and I love your art style. I've being struggling with human anatomy, how to draw people in natural positions, and I just wondered how you learnt and practiced, because most of the people I draw look so stiff and disproportional 😭

Hi anon! Thank you so much for the compliment 💙

As for your question: I've been lucky enough to receive an art education by very competent teachers. Live drawing, actual lessons in proportions and anatomy, practice, feedback, that kind of stuff.

However, a public resource I recommend to basically everyone is... Proko. On Youtube. I'll link the playlists that helped me most, more or less in the order to best study them in.

This is a VAST amount of videos, and unfortunately, you're not going to absorb the information contained in them overnight. But if you want help learning how to draw people, this is the good stuff! It comes with helpful assignments and resources, and ofc he's advertising the extra content you have to pay for, but the free resources alone will get you a long way.

Also, no one's paying me to say that (RIP to me, I'd love some ad money).

Fanbinding: Hibernating with Ghosts by @fayet

Getting stuck in Kaedwen in winter had never been on Jaskier's plan.

Hyped to share photos of the set I made at the end of 2023 for the @renegadepublishing annual exchange! In addition to "Hibernating With Ghosts" these volumes include 30 pencil illustrations by @saeculorum-art, the fic's prequel Silent friend of many distances, and a song (The Siren Song) by @stillmadaboutpetra. I was over the moon that they all agreed to allow their work included so i could make this for the lovely Kitty / @perfectlynormalbooks (thank you for the intro to the wonderful fic!!).

This book was bound in Duo dragonfly cloth, with marbled lokta and hand-foiled cover accents. All art not by saeculorum is sourced from public domain woodcuts. I went a little harder than usual on the typeset, but it was a lot of fun and I finally had a good reason to use a vertical header (the chapter titles are SO LONG) and colored dropcaps (i was printing color for the art, anyway!). I justified my embroidery thread spending with a fun five-color color endband, and I colored the top edge.

I had a lot of fun making this and trying our a few different ways of doing things! Thanks again to everyone for a wonderful Renegade Exchange!

Announcing the

We are very pleased to announce the third Barris-themed event, Blue Moon, running from the first to the last day of August 2023! There will be two full moons in August: on the 1st and on the 31st, which is both a blue moon and a seasonal blue moon. Both of these moons are also supermoons, which means they'll be closest to the Earth in their orbit, like Richard's work orbited him close to Thomas.

The prompts and fest info will be posted on this blog within the next few days!
