Fanfiction Progress Update: December

In Progress: MHA Trama Fic - Writing 100%  Editing 25% Penpals Pt 7 - Writing 100% Editing 10% Handy Man 4 (shendak) - Writing 100%  Healing Half a Heart Pt 2 - Writing 100%   Home Advantage Part 2 - Writing 100%   Mpreg (Uliro) - Writing 100% Editing 50%  Captive Pt 4 - Writing 25%

I'm a bit behind but I'm making progress. I'm hoping to start publishing before the beginning of the new year. Not all of these are super long. Penpals is defiantly shorter than I thought it would be, but I think that's a testament of writing and re-writing it for like...three years, maybe more. MHA Trama Fic is multi chaptered. So is Mpreg. Healing Half a Heart Pt 2 is also multichapter, but shorter than expected.

I hope you guys are looking forwards to these.

Full disclosure I have been bitten by the Pat/Zag/Achil bug. I haven't officially started any fics yet, but I have created outlines so I don't forget ideas. There's a lot of them. Once I'm done with pressing projects I'm going to start giving these guys the time of day.

After I have no idea how many years I finally finished writing the last part of the Penpal Series!

Short explanation of what the hell the Luffy tab on top of the dashboard is:

- For some reason the tumblr marketing team decided to make a deal with Netflix to promote the new live action One Piece movie with a site wide tab, instead of like... An ad.

- The Tab started with the name Luffy, the protagonist of the series. It has now changed to Zoro. There's not explanation given but I suspect it's in the order of the One Piece rap

- The tab seems to be very broken, only showing 5-7 posts that were posted months ago. The users who's art and posts have been included were not asked permission to be used in an ad campaign.

- The disclosing of this being an ad has also been suspect, with many only finding out through word of mouth rather than the tab telling it. I'm not a lawyer but I think that's at least skirting a crime.

- The popular reccomendation is to not engage with the tab, because it'll encourage tumblr to pull more stunts like this. Their sponsors will be delighted the more you click, no matter if its out of confusion or not.

This whole thing is a mess and I hate how marketing teams are trying to bypass adblockers by making alternative ads that get people talking. The act of me posting this is what they want and I'm enraged.... Still, uh, I want to spread the info we've gathered as a community. Let me know if you find more or something is incorrect.

Because AO3 is that site. Because AO3 was that site long before you decided AO3 was better than the sites you bullied us off of before, and I can promise you if someone somehow comes up with a fanfic site you like better specifically for the 'gross stuff' you'll try to bully us off that too so you can benefit from it.

AO3's specific core purpose is to preserve fanfiction, yes, but it was also instigated as a host site for the fanfiction that kept getting yeeted off other platforms like Wattpad. Its designed to preserve all fanfiction, not just the fanfiction you, personally, think is 'allowed' to be written.

AO3 is the site for all the gross stuff the freaks make. We've been there just as long as you. We've been funding it just as long as you have. AO3 has specifically said you have a place here. The timeline was literally:

Wattpad/FF.net/LiveJournal purge fanfics > AO3 is born > The people who's fics got purged moved over to AO3 > AO3 gains popularity as the best functioning site > The people who pushed for the fics to be purged off Wattpad move to AO3 > The same people try to push for AO3 to purge fics.

AO3's source coding is open-access. You go make a polished, strict, rigid site where nothing 'icky' is allowed. You go make a site where you can control what is hosted. We already have our space.

The deeper the press digs into their personal lives the more they find, and the worse it gets. All the while, Masaki is helping Tensei cope with what Stain took from him, and his new reality.

Title: Drifting Home Rating: Teen+ Summary: The Iida's have a monthly dinner where the family gathers to catch up. Tensei will be there for the first time in three months, and he's bringing someone with him. Tenya isn't too keen on it, but everyone else wants to know who it is, and how they met.Take a peek into Tensei's past and learn of his first love, and the tragedy behind it.

Just sos you knows, AO3 is down under a DDOS attack right now. They’ve been coming back in little blips and then disappearing again. It’s been several hours. (For reference, it’s currently 3 p.m. eastern, July 10, 2023.)

The culprit (as with a few other DDOS attacks recently) is Anonymous Sudan, a group that is likely Russian, not Sudanese. The ‘reason’ they gave–that AO3 is “full of disgusting smuts and other LGBTQ+ and NSFW things,” is thin and probably not completely legit, though still legitimately concerning.

DDOS protection is expensive especially for a high traffic site like ao3. And it’s uniquely vulnerable as an independent site without ads or other corporate support. SPECIFICALLY targeted bc of its queer works and yet ppl will still complain every time they ask for donations lmao 

So, again, when AO3 comes back online, please don’t go hard with refreshing all your tabs. Please do remember to download fics you love early and often as  you continue in your whole ~reading journey~. And please do support AO3 through a dono or becoming a donating member, if it is possible for you to do so.
