who has two thumbs and forgot to update on the day he said he would again? me!
there weren't be an update on the 30th of this month and the 10th of the next month, as i'm in the middle of some irl stuff like moving house for grandma and she's moving to the city from the countryside, so y'all know it's gonna take a hot minute. but hopefully i'll have time to finish chapter 11 and also work on my other fics soon!
also massive trigger warnings for this chapter, i'm really begging y'all to heed the warnings in the a/n at the start of the chapter. it took me a while to write and i don't wanna make anyone uncomfy with the events of the chapter, so i'm super okay with summarising the chapter for anyone in my inbox who wants me to!

what does kim namwoon think of kim dokja in free dinner
giant smug bastard, the kind of bastard a hero has to beat up every week and send blasting off again. i think in namwoon's mind this salaryman trying to call the shots is everything namwoon feels is wrong with the world, especially since its people in suits who kept him in the foster system and labelled him undesirable and held him back a year. if kdj can do some good, he might warm up to him! but right now he's not too keen on kdj just being around and the idea that they had to follow his instructions to save his witch noona through the power of friendship

Heo Suji is dead in Kim Dokja’s original timeline where everything else like scenario bullshits don’t happen. He dies through accidents, not-so-accidents, natural disasters or illness. Helpless events no one could’ve foreseen nor changed.
But once Kim Dokja’s world was mixed with that of TWSA and became ORV, things change, and not necessarily for the best.
The timelines stretch out. The possibilities expand. The causes change, but the effects do not. Because in the end is always the same:
Heo Suji is dead.
(and sometimes, if you try to change something, the result might not necessarily be better than before, it could in fact be worse)
(what do you think, kim dokja?)
(would you have been happier not having tried at all? would it have been better? you cannot fool yourself, you had been innocent once, but not anymore, it’s now your fault—)
-
-
not suji going from dying normally to dying abnormally because of scenario bullshit and supernatural hijinks because of orv, even though it isn’t how kim dokja remembers he had died
god i love this so much
it gives me the same vibes as, of all things, If You Touch My Brother, You're All Dead, where the main character kept dying over and over in loops because her fate as that character was to just keep dying once her little brother got into a relationship. imagine if suji was aware of all the times he died not-so-accidentally, if he was aware fate demanded his death. what a wonderful challenge for my little wet noodle

YJH and CEB who falls first and who falls harder?
far and away ceb falls first, she’s the type to immediately acknowledge attraction and act on it and develop her feelings through those actions. yjh? falls harder, because he’s got a bond with her that he didn’t know he was yearning for and despite her rsge inducing traits, it would feel so quiet without her

Will Kim Dokja ever realize and admit he was perhaps a bit too prejudiced against not only Choi Eunbyeol but also Kim Namwoon? When Yoo Joonghyuk is arguably worse than either of them both in later regressions?
oh he better, namwoon is proving by simply existing that he was wrong about him being pure evil. a good reader should always keep an open mind and reevaluate when things don’t match up to how they perceive a character or event, and namwoon is living proof of that!! hell even eunbyeol is proof, he just has to get over his denial that a throwaway character now has a leading role in his story!

i’m coming across those horrible Bad Ends AU for bad at math where Heo Suji dies way before the storyline starts, and one single horrible AU occurred to me… This is how it goes
1) Yoo Joonghyuk and Yoo Sangah never knew Kim Dokja ever had friends, they only know he was a loner aff.
2) They time travel. They try to do whatever they’re set out to do while trying to befriend Kim Dokja. Bad at math initial chapters happen.
3) Heo Suji dies or goes missing.
4) A decade passes. ORV starts. Things seem to be going exactly the same, aren’t they? And Heo Suji? Yoo Joonghyuk and Yoo Sangah have already killed too many people to put too much importance on someone who was a danger to Kim Dokja.
Depending on if they stay in the timeline or are forced to go back after they do what they’re set to do, things can be slightly different. HOWEVER IMAGINE IF Kim Dokja “doesn’t have any friends” (quote Yoo Joonghyuk) is because they killed his only friend.
And none of them connects this dots until they do and the horrible realization because how do you fix that?
Even worse. Imagine if this were a closed time loop? Heo Suji always existed in ORV, but he’s dead or missing, and that’s why Kim Dokja’s life is monotone and depressing and obsessed with TSWA.
He doesn’t necesssarily die because of YJH or YSA, however that makes it worse doesn’t it? Because it means that he’s destined to die no matter what—— run over by a car, a fire, murder, hit and run, illness, supernatural hijinks… Either way, his character was fated to be that dead best friend that Kim Dokja so very resolutely NEVER mentions to anyone.
BUT THEN THIS BIRTHED ANOTHER HORRIBLE THOUGHT:
What if one of the things Yoo Joonghyuk and Yoo Sangah were meant to do in this “scenario” to ensure success was save Heo Suji? Is this Heo Suji real or fake? Who knows. But to the person (KDJ) who had done his utmost best to make a happy ending to everyone, wouldn’t it have been fair to try and give him a happy ending in this scenario, even if it ended up being fake? Why shouldn’t they at least try to make this ending a happy dream instead of the repeat of a nightmare?
Then they fail. Spectacularly.
And here’s the kick: In the future, Kim Dokja and his companions made it possible for this time travel to happen. (do you get what i’m implying???? that Kim Dokja in this timeline was indirectly responsible for— /BONK/)
And this just because one of the closed time loops of so, so, sooo many deaths of Heo Suji.
Heo Suji was always destined to die.
Sometimes, the endings of certain characters are just set in stone.
OOGH SO JUICY

THE GUILT THAT WOULD WEIGH ON THEM THO, IF THEY PIECED THAT TOGETHER AND REALISED IT WAS A SELF FULFILLING PROPHECY!!!! god i LOVE these bad end suji AUs they make me so giddy!!

So a Kim Dokja who knows Choi Eunbyeol is a regressor and her skills and has a vendetta against her existence (like the current regression), is basically stuck in a perpetuate state of denial about what it meant to kill her.
Before he got the king of no killing, he had meant to kill Choi or orchestrate her death after all. But he KNEW she could steal skills with every death, and yet was trying so very hard to not think about it. Basically—
Kim Dokja: Welp! That’s a problem another past me will deal with! 🤷🏻
Like imagine if one of his attempts actually made him become Anna Croft Version 2 to Choi Eunbyeol.
He’s such a rat even to himself lmaoooo.
FJDJDSO EPITOME OF “THAT’S A PROBLEM FOR FUTURE ME” AND THEN HIS FUTURE SELF MANIFESTS IN THE ROOM AND GRABS HIM
killing her is so satisfying but another him has to deal with the fallout of whatever skill she takes from whoever was strong enough and determined enough to kill her. at this point it’s a miracle she didn’t steal more of yjh’s skills before getting heat resistance

In the future do you think Yoo Joonghyuk would take it well if Anna Croft came in contact with Choi Eunbyeol? Preferably in a moment where he’s much more invested. (if he’s catching feelings now imagine in the future)
that actually will be a plot thread in future, but i can say right now that in the revised novel that dokja was sent, anna croft is actually allied with eunbyeol of all things! to the point where several regressions in the novel were basically tug of war with a broken, depressed pink thing as a rope!
as for what we see now? i think he’d dislike how much of a schemer she is like dokja and be on edge about eunbyeol falling for her tricks because eunbyeol is a) stupid and b) stupidly bisexual

lmao Funny how Yoo Joonghyuk always used to treat other regressors as kill-on-site dangerous factors while the prophets are a toss up in usefulness (although he hates Anna Croft’s guts).
However, this Yoo Joonghyuk is slowly starting to realize that maybe he should be executing the prophets instead. Smug little bastards who think they know it all and are out for his - and the pink thing’s - throat more than any other regressors have, all because of a future.
(what did the future mean to a regressor? all he knows is that someone is threatening his current regression someone is trying to kill choi eunbyeol and that matters more to yoo joonghyuk than a future he can’t even fathom ending)
HE CAN DENY IT ALL HE WANTS BUT IT’S RIGHT THERE!! can’t fall back on one or two bad experiences for this one, sir, you’ve called for the heads of any and all out there and flipped your priorities for the worst catch imaginable

Wait, so basically wouldn’t there be a possibility where if the other “readers” aside from Kim Dokja come up to Yoo Joonghyuk and start to say they’re a prophet, it’s possible he could just pull out his sword and execute them?
There’s so many times where Yoo Joonghyuk wants to kill Dokja but can’t because the rat is too smart and sly, but the others? Fair game?
entirely possible! one reader’s already proven to be a nuisance, so imagine almost two thousand of them. best to get rid of that massive headache in his eyes. specially the ones who actually call themselves apostles, because hoho boy, we know one of them has that same rat grudge the fake prophet has now 😏

Had a fun thought, but what do you think would happen in this AU:
A world where CEB and YJH regress together and have regressed so many fucking times they’re on a thin line between “i will bite off your damn throat and kill you myself” and “WHO DARES HURT OR INSULT HIM/HER??? IM THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN DO THAT” and being unforgiving and taking vengeance on behalf of the other and then denying it they did it for each other. They have a hate and love situationship. They are so violent and aggressive with each other but they have special moments and NO ONE can seem to ever be able to convince them to truly turn on one another.
(Ifs even worse if it’s prophets, because Choi Eunbyeol is still not meant to exist and Yoo Joonghyuk has lost count of how many prophets he has killed by now. Did it matter? No. Yoo Joonghyuk most likely lost count, he could probably remember better that weird expired food Eunbyeol ate six regressions back, if only to mock her and relish in her anger. She’s the liveliest the most beautiful and radiant in her anger and it always serves to entertain him never lose your vigor)
Even if hypothetically they reach a point where they have to kill each other on a necessity (maybe the two of them accidentally trigger a sadistic scenario where only 1 survivor is allowed and they’re like ok, let’s play rock paper scissors and see who kills who and they’re like BITCH IM WINNING THIS ONE and “see you in the next round, companion”)(and also because they’re both NOT healthy people and if they reach regression depression and apathy at the same time ohhhhh damn) death isn’t truly a tipping point that sends them straight into enemies; they can get angry with each other and maybe argue for a few several regressions, but it isn’t true betrayal.
They grieve together, they get angry together, they achieve success in the scenarios together, they save and kill together. They die together. They become monsters in the flesh, numb to death, depressed, angry, enraged, ambitious, sad, insane—
But it’s not so bad, when you’re not the only monster around, doesn’t it?
They die. They live. They die. They live. They die and live and die and live and die and die again and die over and over and over and over only to come back to the starting point—
And then, during their XXXth regression, an anomaly appears in the train:
Kim Dokja.
(drum rollll// cue the start of “ORV”)
(this… has the potential to end very, very badly, doesn’t it?)
x

AKA Dokja in ORV was thanking his luck that he only came into Joonghyuk’s third regression. Imagine him meeting THIS Joonghyuk, whos still angry, dangerous, cold, ruthless and apathetic, but he’s better off than his TWSA counterpart because he’s not gone completely insane from solitude (at least, he’s still insane though). HOWEVER he’s still a fucked up man who regressed a few XXX times lmao.
AKA Worse, he has a pink thing beside him who’s decidedly a very dangerous variable (why hasn’t she died to the protagonist??) and just as insane. She can be nice and the next moment either kill something or kill herself. They’re both trigger-happy because death didn’t matter.
AKA Who the fuck decided you got to transmigrate into the “original plot”?? Sucks to be you, Dokja, but have fun in this AU of TSWA lmaoooooooooi 😂😂😂😂😂😂
AKA a happier AU of that AU where Yoo Joonghyuk drowns in angst from having done so much harm to a Choi Eunbyeol who’s only 2 regressions apart from him - she having only started regression in his third round and for some reason, they always end up in the same timeline despite the disparity of time in their deaths, but since CEB always meets up with a deranged YJH she has it badly. In this AU, things aren’t as hopeless haha.
AKA Unhinged Regressors Yoo Joonghyuk and Choi Eunbyeol inspecting Kim Dokja like an insect under a telescope. Yoo Joonghyuk, of course, suggests killing him, especially when KDJ tries conning them into believing he’s a prophet.

It feels like everyone is so outraged by Kim Dokja lmao. Can’t wait for Yoo Ioonghyuk to get his dues in bad at math. Both are bastards, i guess it just depends on whose side we are.
Kinda like how Dokja is biased towards Joonghyuk as a reader. We are biased towards Dokja when reading ORV. And now we are biased towards Eunbyeol.
Reader bias amirite?
absolutely!! we can't help the bias (´ ꒳` ) i can say for sure that yjh is definitely an unwarranted level of bastard for suji since suji poses WAAAAAAAAAY less a threat than eunbyeol does, but dokja is still an appropriate level of bastard for eunbyeol as well! i swear if these two met their oc ship counterparts it'd be a fight to the death on sight
