      “Hey!” Aidan greets with a gentle smile. “Yeah, it’s pretty hard to believe — three down, one to go.” He raises his eyebrows with a sigh, thinking about how quickly the year flew by. “No, I’m alright. I mean, not back to skating shape, which is bullshit, but I’m doing fine otherwise.”

“Uh, yeah! Are you excited to be a fourth year?” That answered the question that he almost asked but didn’t. Now he had no choice but to respond back, putting on a goofy grin to try and diffuse the situation, “Or two down, none to go?” Could anyone blame him? “Do you think you’ll get there by the summer? You’re looking better already!”

“Reese!” She smiled brightly up at him, arms immediately wrapping around him. “It’s so nice to see you again,” Naomi said, meaning it. She missed all of them but she especially missed the few students who she talked to a lot last year. “Beer? Okay, not too bad. Just make sure not to go too crazy with it.”

Reese hugged her back, instantly calmed by her very presence. “Yeah! I’m so happy to see you.” He shook his head, “No, I won’t go crazy. I swear it.” Because he wanted to remember this night, “Naomi? I’m leaving Gallagher... Thank you, for everything.” Back home, with his silly little apps in a place where he didn’t feel death at every corner

“Well, I think maybe it’d be more personal, like, tugging on our clothes or something…” Which seems a bit difficult to accomplish during a massive party but a girl can dream. “It must’ve been so goddamn boring.” Marifer, who’s second best friend is technology, simply can’t imagine. “Yes, of course. Anywhere you want.” Reese was easily one of her favorite people and that only reminded her that she hadn’t yet told him she wouldn’t be returning next year. 

“If anyone’s going to spill my beer all over the place, I want it to be Gilly. Do you hear that, Gil? That’s your sign.” He brandished the bottle out in front of him with a laugh. “You know when they had all the artifacts last year? I was hoping someone would find Gilly’s journal.” That had to be a wealth of information. If you couldn’t watch Netflix all day, you’d probably do a lot of writing! “Cool... Have you ever been to Savannah? They apparently have this special blue paint they use to ward off ghosts, but they’re still there.”

“Hopefully she’ll grace us with her presence.” Maybe she’d feel the giant energy shift that Gallagher was currently experiencing. “I’m surprised anyone survived as long as they did back then.” She scrunches up her nose. “Good thing we make the best ghost hunting duo.” 

“Yeah! How do you think she’ll let us know? Flickering lights don’t scream Gilly to me. Maybe she’ll knock over some drinks?” Good old party foul by everyone’s favorite party ghoul. “Me too. It had to be like living in a trippy dream every single day.” And somehow they managed to invent electricity and stuff. “Exactly! Hey... Can we go on a ghost hunting tour somewhere this summer?”

“Mar, we know Gilly loves to party. She has to show up eventually,” Reese nodded. Just call her Gillian Gatsby! “Than this year? Probably. Could you imagine Gallagher back when people basically drank mercury and got lead poisoning from hats? Totally wild.”

“I think Gilly should do us all a kindness and at least show up at some point tonight.” By do us all she absolutely just means herself. “Do you think she had way more chaotic years in her life?” 

“How many wet socks have you eaten? I think you need to do an actual experiment to see if it really tastes like that,” Reese nodded matter-of-factly.

“That one tastes like what I imagine a wet sock would taste like.” Orion motions towards one of the punch bowls. “Just so you’re aware.” 

“Hi Naomi!” Reese beamed, walking over to his old mentor. “I’ve just got beer, don’t worry! Midwesterners are bred to handle beer.” He probably wouldn’t have more than a glass or two.

     “i think i’ve seen them around,” rafa answers, and the name is vaguely familiar to him. “of course she does, and i’m just here to go along with her. but yeah, i can send you some of the things she mentions.” 

Naturally he should have described them at this point, but ‘tallish’ and ‘brunette’ was about as useful as not saying anything at all. “Yeah! I’d appreciate that. Are you liking having a vacation together?” Again? He’d gone to Australia right?

“Sit in the hotel lobby for a while, you’ll see them all,” she states with a bored tone. She actually tries to either stay in her room, or away from the hotel to avoid seeing any of the Gallagher people. “It’s alright. Better than being at school. You’re probably having fun with the shitload of museums here.”

“True, it’s way easier than Berlin when we were all scattered across the city.” DC probably had more security as a whole, the city felt protected even at places as boring as a sandwich shop. “You know me,” he gave a slight laugh - a bit of nerves in the sound as he tried to place if that was an insult or not. “It’s cool to be somewhere different too, my brain appreciates the new environment.” Was that even a thing?”

THAT’D BE NICE OF YOU, considering i’m the one who told you not to think about it too much, ” he laughs, though he just doesn’t really think there’s much lurking under the surface on this one, so reese can take care of that. “ i guess that’s part of the challenge ? ” jem suggests. “ had lemonade on repeat recently. but yeah, i know tommy, he’s cool – his taste is outdated as hell though, so that’s not a stunning review. ” 

“It’s not thinking about it if I accidentally find it.” With his luck, that’d be how he found out - completely in the wrong place at the wrong time. “True... The school’s so small, I’m surprised I didn’t know so many people!” Yeah, not like there were entire majors he barely interacted with. “The classics are always great, and I bet he’d do something else if we asked, or riff or something.”

“i don’t know– not sure if anyone’s ever wanted to work there, or ended up working there. you could be the first, though.” she grinned. it would be interesting to finally find out what was inside the base. “why would we– are you afraid of the ocean? can you not swim?” she pried. 

“It’s a real place! Pretty sure they tested some weapons there in the World Wars.” Because an empty desert was a lot less dangerous than a crowded city. “They’ve gotta have regular stuff too so people aren’t all suspicious, it can’t only be aliens.” Yes, he’d thought about that. “No?” Reese loved the water, it was a stupid joke because well... that was his best skill. “I was kidding! If we were wandering around not paying attention, we could fall into the ocean.” A stretch for sure. “It’d definitely be cold though.”

“There’s some professors out there who just want to confuse us,” Reese definitively nodded. Those teachers that held grudges over how they didn’t have it taken easy on them when they were in school. Or whatever. The grumpy Snapes of Gallagher. “Yeah, exactly! Maybe I’ll at least get some points for effort.”

That was the first time anyone used his Achilles Heel as a possible positive trait. Huh, he’d have to think more about that... Ironic. “Thanks, dude, that’s a new perspective on it. And I’ll definitely tell you if I discover a conspiracy.” Could you imagine? Gallagher didn’t seem like they’d show their hand that easily though. “Yeah, they should have given us pictures.” Because the internet didn’t exist, right? “What were you inspired by? Some of the coolest stuff is derived from other music. Oh, yea? Awesome. Do you know Tommy? Sometimes we play together.”

“i know… thank you.” the blonde says softly, reaching out to squeeze his hand. “this girl named elvira. it wasn’t that hard if i’m being honest, i think the big crowd downtown confused her.” that had been sky’s plan all along. “how did your mission go?” 

His hand curled around hers to respond with a squeeze back, an unspoken promise of being there for another. After letting go, he tilted his head in thought, “Elvira, I don’t know her. Cool name though!” It reminded him of that woman who did all the Halloween stuff. “Oh true, that was smart, you can blend in super quickly in a crowd.” He shrugged, “It was hard but I think I got it. The toughest part was trying to think like someone else.”
