4730 you are 100% correct. We have so many stories that advocate for good and that beat people over the head with ethics and morality. But we still have a seemingly endless supply of people who won't listen to those messages. It's clear that fiction really doesn't have that much power over reality and it boils down to personal choices.
Slenderman stories didn't make those girls do anything, they chose to make awful and stupid choices. Back in ancient times when we didn't have all of this media people still murdered and abused one another. Humans are going to human and that means both good and bad.
Banning "dark" fiction will never stop shitty behavior. In even the most socially sanitized environments a LOT of shit goes on behind the scenes.
‘relationships are work’ means ‘you have to put effort into loving each other intentionally & learning how to love each other and communicating properly’ not ‘your relationship makes you feel stressed and sad most of the time & the other person disrespects you and treats you bad but you stay anyway’
