I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT NGOZI HAS BEEN FORESHADOWING THIS SINCE THE BLOG POST OF COMIC 3-15!!!!!! 

This panel means a lot for a couple reasons.

First being that it makes perfect sense for the O6 to be first on the ice. They were the ones formative to Bitty finding his footing in Samwell those first years. They were the ones whom Bitty and Jack came out to first. And they were the ones who helped us to get invested in the story when we first got started.

However, it also says a lot that the Frogs are also present. It's notable that, despite not starting Samwell until Y2, they have been present in all four years. Chowder brought an exuberance that enamored Bitty, and he was the one Jack gave dibs to. Nursey had the Andover connection with added layers of complexity and was the one willing to play ball with Bitty's social media from the start. And Dex showed such growth from being unsure about Samwell to being a kitchen prodigy and finally getting the captaincy. It stood to reason that they were the second group that Bitty and Jack came out to... and that they would be included in this momentous occasion.

These are our bros, and that's 'swawesome.

The Great Thesis Embargo of 2017 must have really wreaked havoc on the pie and jam supply/trade networks in the NHL.

something that really hit me about todays update, particularly the moment when Bitty kisses the ice with the whole team there, letting him have this moment but standing by him all the same, is that though we have only been here for Bitty’s story, there’s so much more happening in that moment than we will ever know

Bitty is a part of something bigger, a tradition that we’ve only seen a glimpse of. He’s watched his friends kiss the ice before him, and those watching him now will kiss the ice after him. Bitty watched as the people who made Samwell home for him leave, and he made Samwell home for those he is leaving now. Though SMH with Bitty is all they’ve ever known, they have to find a new way without him, just as Bitty did. 

This is a glimpse of a culture that Bitty both benefited from and helped pass on, and his touch will be felt by those who never meet him. The Frogs will go on to make next years freshman feel welcome and loved, and Bitty’s influence will be felt through every action they take. The Waffles, who have only ever known Bitty’s leadership, will move forward with the confidence he instilled in them. Whiskey, though he has so much to figure out on his own, has Bitty’s example and Bitty’s acceptance and support to hold onto for as long as he wants it. 

Being a part of SMH is, of course, something we know to be impactful, something you take with you, something that changes you forever. but what i just realized is that Bitty has also changed SMH forever as well. He’s changed what it means to be a part of Samwell Men’s Hockey team. I love knowing that, though we’ll never get to see an SMH future without Bitty, that future is brighter and better because he was there.
