At the gate for my flight home from visiting friends and there's a woman here with a service Shiba Inu. No pics because he has a Do Not Disturb vest and taking pics of strangers is illegal but I need to stress how ON DUTY this animal is. Ears up. Eyes doing Lazer scans of everything. Examining everyone who passes within 10ft like a security guard. Ass planted on her feet. I have never seen a dog with such intense chivalric guardian energy before. He has tiny eyebrows and they are FURROWED with concentration.

Lol, trying to write an SI/OC who got reborn into Old Money, and the research makes it clear I'd be a terrible rich person. I don't like champagne, I hate parties, and I'd hoestly rather just stay home than visit all the possible hot spots.
And the plot of the story won't allow the SI to be a rich hermit.
She's gonna be miserable.

Am I the only one this give Yi-city vibes to?
The Jinlan City situation happens very differently.
Jaded, heartbroken, yet still oh so desperately in love, Luo Binghe resorts to a wildly different plan.
It's terrible. It's dark. It's so unethical and goes against everything that he's been taught. But Luo Binghe still proceeds with it because shizun already considers him dirty and unworthy as a demon anyways, so he's just proving his teacher right.
Luo Binghe manages to sneak a couple drops of his blood into Shen Qingqiu's tea. Once the tea is consumed, he uses the blood to (temporarily) paralyze Shen Qingqiu's lower body and render the man's eyes blind to stage a kidnapping.
---
Shen Yuan: Wait, I'm losing my limbs and eyes too early in the plot!!!
But a "nice" man rescues Shen Yuan from the clutches of his kidnapper. They start living in some cottage in the middle of the woods with his rescuer helping Shen Yuan who's on a wheelchair.
Even if Shen Yuan could contact Cang Qiong, he might just be kind of too embarrassed to do so. He, the great Qing Jing peak lord, has turned into this crippled blind person who can't do anything. Bad enough that his cultivation got all fucked up because of the Without a Cure poison! Now this!
(He's still working out how to contact Shang Qinghua without bothering the rest of the sect.)
---
Give me creepy housewife!Luo Binghe and injured Shen Yuan playing house together where Shen Yuan doesn't know that he's living with Luo Binghe and Luo BInghe continues to have a moral dilemma on whether to keep his shizun paralyzed and blind... This way, shizun is utterly dependent on Luo Binghe and is surely starting to have feelings for him. On the other hand, everything is built on lies...

That empty headed male lead: I'll share all my thoughts with you from now on! You should also share yours!
The clever love interest: I actually have a lot of thoughts and don't have the breath to share them all, unlike you.

Me looking for ways to smuggle books on the internet: This is all modern stuff! About evading customs officials!
What I want: hilarious, ingenius ways to hide books.
What I get: digitize! The customs officials won't care too much!
What the internet thinks I want to smuggle: banned books
What I want the character I'm writing to smuggle: erotic love poetry from a man who isn't her fiancé
Since it's a paperback, strapping to the thigh it is. Thank god for period appropriate dresses.

I have like, so many thoughts on Shang Qinghua's age... Like, if PIDW was really as long as 6666 chapters as the animation suggests, that's one chapter a day for over twenty years. It even makes sense! PIDW started as a passion project in like, mid 90's, and SQH was the only one with shit enough luck to be hit by the Y2K bug, meaning he lost his notes. And it wasn't like it was possible to monetize written work at the time quite yet, so PIDW was still somewhat coherent. But when it was possible to monetize, he dove in head first and was caught in the first round of dreadful contracts, and since the story was just ongoing, he couldn't get out of it, meaning the last threads keeping the narrative together snapped.
All of this means, that while he is a millenial, he is absolutely an older, almost Gen X millenial. In this essay I will...

I just saw a post on Tumblr asking if you're "allowed" to do something in a story you're writing. (In this case, a POV shift.)
I just want to sing to the tune of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, "THERE ARE NO RULES. THERE ARE NO RULES. There are no rules there are no rules there are no rules..."

Out of curiosity rb and put in the tags how many fics come up when you type your last name into ao3. Apparently even though my last name is uncommon there's like 500

You know the Grimm version of Snow White makes more sense than most versions if only because in that version Snow White was like 7 years old.

I just saw a Tik Tok that said writers on AO3 are not looking for constructive criticism in their reviews. I have no audience on this platform so I have to know if this is true? I've always left my pros and cons when reading a fic and now I'm concerned that the authors didn't like that.
Yeah writers are Not looking for criticism, constructive or otherwise. Unless they specifically ask for it, it’s considered rude and honestly a bit hurtful. In the least bitchy way possible, don’t do that. It’s unwanted.

New fic I'm working on
I'm working on another SI/OC story, but this time she's reborn in the Jin sect. It's more about trying to reconcile her morals in a setting that doesn't always care about the individual. I think. I'm still in the process of even outlining this... (This was supposed to be the story where I took a closer at the Yi city crew, but no, the plot doesn't seem to be heading that way...)
This doesn't have a name yet.
Jin Yōuhăi is Jin Guangshan's illegitimate little sister that her mother's sect forced the previous Jin sect leader to recognize. She's given over to her father's wife to raise, and her only saving graces are the fact that she's so young and that she's a girl, and therefore no threat to her adult brother's power. She doesn't regain memories of ther previous life until she's twelve, but she happened to be in Yiling at the time, and found the recently orphaned Wei Ying, taking him home with her.
“Shifu?” there was a hesitant knock on my door. Xiao Ying pushed the door open a crack. “Is shifu still awake?”
I set down my comb and left the protection of the privacy screen, my one remaining lit candle in hand. “Wei Ying?”
Xiao Ying fidgeted with the hem of his shirt. “Xiao Ying's room is... nice, but... quiet and dark and there might be something under xiao Ying's bed?”
Oh. I hadn't thought of that. I remembered occasionally dragging my duvet and pillow to my parents' room until I was eleven and sleeping on the spare child sized mattress, sometimes with both my younger siblings, other times alone. I'd had trouble falling asleep, and then having a restless sleep well into my teenage years and beyond. Out of my siblings, I'd been the one with the overactive imagination, seeing people in shadows and thinking I heard footsteps in the dark. But then I'd turned to logic to explain away my fears, turned to science to find explanations, while my very unimaginative little sister had believed in witchcraft and ghosts. (Who's laughing now?)
I offered xiao Ying my hand and he grabbed it rather desperatly. “Should I stay with xiao Ying until he falls asleep?”
Xiao Ying's nodding was insistent as we walked through the main room. “'m sorry.”
“No need. I should have realized you'd be scared of your new surroundings.”
We reached xiao Ying's new room. It still lacked any personal touches that would come with time. Xiao Ying clambered on the bed and I knelt to check under the bed. This world was one with monsters, so I couldn't dismiss xiao Ying's fear as childish imaginings.
“No, nothing here,” I reassured him and set my candle on a table in the middle of the room. I sat on the edge of his bed and tucked him in. “Do you want to hear a story?”
“Yes please, Shifu!”
I thougt through my catalogue of stories. Better ease him in with a familiar enough setting...
“The Heaves shook as a new God ascended. Many Gods had gethered to welcome the newcommer, but when the light died down, silence reigned. Ugh, it's just you, some in the crowd groaned. And indeed, the person who had ascended, had done so for the third time...”

Quick question for the Chinese speaking tumblr sphere.
How would you translate the concept in Egyptian mythology of Anubis weighing hearts? Specifically the "weighing hearts" part?
I'm trying to write a story where I can use "Wei Ying <3" as a pun for a sword name
