begging queer kids to read up on princess diana’s involvement with the community. yes, she was a rich, pretty monarch. yes, she died young.
but the reason why queer people love her is because she used her privilege during the aids crisis to advocate for sick queer men, when very few others would - much less someone of her status.
diana spent years advocating for the health and care of queer people with hiv/aids. in 1987, at the height of the epidemic, she opened the first specialist clinic dedicated to treating aids patients (the first clinic of it’s kind in the uk).
she also fought public hysteria by hugging and shaking bare hands with aids patients, at a time when aids was thought to be spread by skin to skin contact. not only that, she visited patients in the clinic regularly and even comforted them through their sickness.
and when queen elizabeth told her to try focusing on “something more pleasant”?
diana ignored her and kept fighting.
and this is only her work towards the aids crisis. she publicly called out the royal family, brought attention to numerous world issues, and was known as an advocate for empathy and kindness. she’s known and loved as the people’s princess for good reason

This isn't just about the stranger things cast or just Finn anymore, this is about just not sexualizing minors/really young adults.
Finn's 19. HE'S 19!!! He shouldn't have people in their late 20s/early 30s or even older thirsting over him.
And I wish it wasn't true but he's dealt with this from a very, very young age and it's so upsetting.
Also, while we're on this topic, let's also talk about shipping.
It's fucking weird to ship real people. I don't care what excuse you have, it's. fucking. WEIRD.
You can ship characters. I have no problem with that. But when people start talking about Finn and Noah, or Noah and Millie, that's when it gets really weird.

guys i just had the realization that there’s no fucking way mike is going to reject will
let me explain
will’s van confession to mike was a KEY FACTOR in mikes ‘i love you’ speech to el. there’s no doubt about that. mike really thinks that’s how el feels about him.
now, imagine mike finding out that’s actually NOT how el feels about him AT ALL.
and that this whole time, those were WILL’S feelings towards him.
mike is going to re-think his ENTIRE love confession. possibly his relationship with el, even.
how in the WORLD could mike reject will like “sorry will, i’m in love with el.”
HOW could he still claim to be in love with el whenever the whole reason he said ‘i love you’ to el in the first place was because he thought will’s feelings were el’s.
now that he knows those aren’t el’s feelings towards him, how can he be sure he loves her?? mike now has no idea how el feels towards him.
in fact, us, the audience, KNOW that el doesn’t love mike like will does. i mentioned this in an earlier post, but will says that mike makes him feel BETTER for being different. on the other hand, we see el accusing mike of viewing her as a MONSTER. clear differences here.
there is no way mike is going to reject will.
saying that will getting rejected would be shitty writing is an understatement. it wouldn’t make sense plot-wise or character-wise.
that being said, byler endgame.

I feel like Bylers twist Mike’s affectionate best friend behavior for will and say, “well he has to have romantic feelings for him then,” but most of the time the things you are describing are literal normal best friend behavior. Some people are super affectionate with their best friends, but that doesn’t mean Mike is gay or bi just because he comforts Will, stays by his side, and looks at him? Is there anything a friend can do for a close friend that Bylers wouldn’t try to twist and make it gay? This is why many straight guys are scared to show affection for their male friends…
aw anon, you’re so right! the way mike behaves towards will is completely and strictly platonic with no romantic undertones whatsoever!

no but on a more serious note - it’s not like we’re pairing two guys together just to “make them gay” or anything - if that was the case we would do the same for lucas and mike, dustin and mike, lucas and will or dustin and will but we don’t.
mike and will have chemistry. chemistry that crosses the line of simply platonic and seeps into the romantic territory. i’m sure a lot of people who see it the same way as you, anon, would say otherwise if will was a girl or mike was a girl.
also “some people are super affectionate with their best friends” okay, so is this supposed to also cancel out the amount of affection they would show towards their significant other? because, it is quite suspicious for mike to show this amount of affection towards his supposed “platonic bestie” and not show it towards his own freakin gf. i can’t even recall a single time he’s stared at el’s lips. and even if he has, it’s not as much as he’s stared at will’s lips.
it’s totally okay for men to be affectionate with each other while still being platonic. but, this isn’t the case with mike and will. there is literally a direct contrast to the way mike behaves with dustin and to the way he behaves with will. then there’s the fact that he struggles so much to juggle his relationship with will while dating el.

you can see the obvious contrast between not only the lighting/tone/mood of the scenes, you can also see the differences in mike’s reaction. when el said she “dumped (his) ass”, he looked annoyed and almost disgusted. however, when will said “i guess i did. i really did”, mike looked genuinely hurt. he had a stronger reaction to his fight with will than with his and his gf’s breakup. his fight with will read more like a breakup than his and el’s actual breakup. (not to mention that after el broke up with him, all he did was sit around, eat chips and complain while after his fight with will, he biked across town in the pouring rain to apologize to will).
this isn’t something we are “twisting”. this is intentionally being done by the writers and directors of the show. this is the story they are crafting. if i was you, i’d prepare myself for season 5 because we will be seeing a lot more byler whether you like it or not.
