I can't even get the battery out. I also have no clue what this battery is supposed to power

As a preemptive TLDR: I bought a super cheap camera, developed with somewhat expired developer, and got a weird blank roll, and I’m trying to troubleshoot which of the variables here is the main culprit

I was in Goodwill today and I found a Canon EOS Rebel G for a very questionable ten dollars. I know it was stupid but I bought it anyway cause I thought whatever, it could work, and if it doesn’t, ten dollars isn’t that much. It wasn’t in a camera bag or case, but it had both a lens cap and a lens filter. The filter was clean and unscratched, and the actual lens was in perfect condition. I opened it up, and the mirror looked fine too. 

I got some batteries (they ended up costing more than the camera), and I was pleasantly surprised when the display screen on the top turned on. I put in a roll of film, but I wasn’t quite sure how the winding mechanism worked for this camera because it seemed to be automatic. I didn’t have any internet connection at the time to look up a manual for loading the film, so I lined up the film leader with the uptake spool and closed the camera intending on actually loading the film later, but it started winding the film right after I closed it. It rolled it back until it read 25 on the display (which was already a bad sign because Ilford HP5 has 36 exposures, not 25). I didn't want to open it back up and risk ruining whatever part of the film would have been exposed at that point, and decided to try shooting the roll anyway. 

I shot the whole roll this evening (my friends and I went on a hike to watch the sunset) and developed it when I got home. I of course had no reference for what would be normal for this camera or type of camera, since none of my others have automatic winding, but everything seemed fine. I was a bit worried about the development, though because my D-76 was a little past whatever number of months its good for at the stock dilution. 

When I took the film from the developing tank it was just blank. Completely blank and clear. 

My first thought was that it was completely unexposed and that it was never actually wound up into the camera to begin with, but it was successfully rolled back int the film canister when i first started “shooting,” but what was weird is that the film leader where it was exposed to daylight when i was loading the camera was also clear. 

The blank roll is on the top, and another older roll in on the bottom. On the older roll, the front part is all black because it has been exposed directly to the light before the camera was closed. I know the leader of the blank roll was exposed to light. If that was dark but the rest of the roll was blank, then I would know that the camera was the issue, either the shutter or the automatic winding, but this leads me to think that it was a bad/expired film, or bad chemicals.
