her best friend ever since they had the entry test for iland together.

he always made sure she was coping well during iland amongst twenty two other boys.

heeseung is her number one person to go to when she needs to talk about something.

they were both considered bighit’s aces.

he’s like another brother to her—her support pillar and a (joking) pain whenever he’s in a teasing mood.

there’s a funny story as to how they got close:

she used to be intimidated by him, but immediately warmed up to him after he cooked ramen for her once.

she always goes to him for shoulder massages and she always leaves feeling so refreshed.

he’s like her happy pill whenever she feels down.

and he has a huge soft spot for her so he’ll usually let her get away with a majority of her pranks and teasing jabs.

youngmi looked after him so much during iland.

now he helps her with her math homework as his way of saying thanks LOL

she kind of developed an aussie accent after listening to him talk in english for so long.

jake mistook her for a staff member’s sister when she was first transferred to belift…

he sends her videos of layla since he knows she loves his dog more than anything else.

oddly enough, despite spending the whole time in iland together, the two were never really close until the concept test in part two

they suffered together trying to act cute in chamber five…

once youngmi broke through his shell, he became a lot more open around her.

they both bonded over how they were both former sm trainees.

they both have huge soft spots for each other.

she usually irons his and sunoo’s uniform for school whenever she does her own :(

she’s always looking out for him and making sure he takes his vitamins and supplements.

and she loves pinching his cheeks (and he lets her).

he was a fan of her’s during pd48.

he usually like following her around with niki since he grew fairly attached to her, too during iland.

her literal baby

he got really attached to her during iland so he’ll usually be found within her vicinity (respecting her boundaries when necessary of course).

but youngmi loves him either way so she doesn’t mind the clinginess.

she helps him whenever he doesn’t understand something in korean.

no because when niki returned to iland for part two, he immediately ran to youngmi for a hug :((

snippets of youngmi’s time at i-land

enhypen 8th member.

she spent most of her time in the beginning practicing by herself in one of the individual practice rooms until jake and heeseung dragged her along to join everyone else.

she instantly clicked with the ‘02 line and the j-line.

one of the behind the scenes showed youngbin giving her a piggyback ride up the stairs after one of their practices.

niki and taki grew really attached to her so they were always following her around like ducklings

hanbin’s smile was her favorite thing to see so she always made it her mission to make him smile (wasn’t that hard of a job).

she held her tears back whenever people got sent to ground and comforted the others instead :(

her first time crying on the show was when they all watched the messages they received from around the world

she has a habit of waving to cameras so in all the behind the scenes and camera footage released, she was always seen waving to at least one camera.

she was sick during the chemistry test (team flicker) but her hoarse voice ironically suited the song.

the boys threw her a surprise party on her birthday.

jake calls her his unofficial dance mentor since she always helped him with his choreography whenever they were in the same team.

she had a small mental breakdown when sunoo chose her to be a part of “chamber 5” since she really didn’t think she suited that concept.

she woke up at 3 AM the night before the day of the concept test to eat ramen and sunghoon joined her halfway, eating half of the said ramen.

she nearly collapsed when she was announced as second place and an official member of enhypen.

she ended up crying again instead :((

i-blank interview

enhypen 8th member.

“I-LAND. I-BLANK Interview.”

“This video is an interview to conduct an in-depth analysis of the applicants.”

“The first interviewees are…Daniel, Park Sunghoon, Kim Youngmi, EJ, Yang Jungwon, Lee Geonu, and Lee Youngbin.”

Walking into the interview room, Youngmi admired the design before stepping in front of the monitor.

PART ONE: MYSELF

“My name is Kim Youngmi,” she introduced herself with a small, closed-lipped smile.

If I compare myself to an animal, I would be [ ].

“Hm…most of my friends tell me I look like a fox. So I guess I would be a fox,” she concluded.

What I am most scared of is [ ].

“Clowns,” she answered with no hesitation before feeling a shiver go down her spine at the mere thought of them.

I recently bought [ ].

“…What did I buy recently?” she mumbled to herself, tilting her head in deep thought. After a few moments of digging through her memories, a lightbulb went off in her head.

“Ah, hoodies! I bought two new ones for I-LAND,” she sheepishly admitted.

If I give myself a nickname, it would be [ ].

Letting out a noise of embarrassment, Youngmi ran her hand through her hair. “Ice princess…” she quietly mumbled before quickly trying to explain.

“My older brother and sister always called me that ever since I was little so it just stuck with me…”

“Did you know Park Sunghoon said Ice Boy?” a staff member quietly revealed in hopes to make her feel better.

“Ah…really?” her eyes widened at the similarity of the nicknames. “But he was a former ice skater—”

PART TWO: IF

If I am a wizard, I want to [ ].

Pursing her lips at the question, one thought popped into her mind. “…Visit my parents, brother, and sister.”

PART THREE: MUSIC

My favorite nursery rhyme is [ ].

Youngmi had to stifle her chuckles. “Baby Shark…? I heard it a lot as a kid, and I still do now sometimes…”

If I choose one song that can represent myself, it would be [ ].

“Inner Child by BTS sunbaenim…”

I would be [ ] in 10 years.

A soft, wistful smile appeared on her face. “Hopefully an artist performing to her heart’s content.”

Bowing to the camera, Youngmi said her goodbyes before leaving the room.

was the baby of i-land, even to the younger members.

she communicated with taki, niki, and k in japanese so they don’t feel so homesick :((

some of her idol friends are aespa’s ningning, all of the (former) iz*one members, and lightsum’s chowon.

if she could pick any food to live off of, it’d be ramyeon.

beomgyu used to keep her company in the practice rooms whenever he had time since he knew she was the only girl in bighit, so he wanted her to be a little more comfortable :(

and he was cheering the loudest when she was announced as an official member of enhypen :(

her older sister and brother are both 5 years older than her.

engenes nicknamed her “mother chick” because whenever they have schedules; niki, sunoo, and sometimes jungwon follow her around like baby chicks

youngmi was born in gwangju, south korea as the third and youngest child. she has an older brother and an older sister. when she was four, her family moved to los angeles, california for work purposes.

she showed interest in dancing at the young age of six, her parents signing her up for a few contemporary and modern dance classes as a way to help their child find a hobby. she started learning kpop choreographies when her sister introduced her to into the new world by girls generation.

fast forward to when she was ten—she went to her first audition when her brother and sister convinced her to try for sm entertainment’s weekly audition in LA. passing all three rounds, her parents reluctantly allowed her to travel back to korea to start her life as a trainee. she trained until the company decided to add her to the SMROOKIES lineup in 2013. in 2015, she, along with other Rookies, made herself known to the public through Mickey Mouse Club House. in 2018, she competed in Produce 48, shocking the public with her sudden reappearance after three years. her rank fell two spots away from debuting.

parting with SM on good terms that same year after PD48, she went back to her normal life for a month before being scouted by BigHit. taking her chances again at a shot for debut, she trained under BigHit as a hidden trainee for two years before shocking the public once again by appearing on I-LAND.
