While you're away...
Hey guys! (11:30 Briefing)
Well… this is a slightly different way of working to say the least.
The next two weeks is a great opportunity to knock out a huge portion of the written side of FMP so that we can hopefully focus purely on building a performance fit for the stage.
I know this will not be easy but do all you can and I’ll be on call between 10 am - 5pm everyday if you have any queries/questions or would like me to check your progress.
I’ve laid out Tasks over the next two weeks with target dates.
All work should be uploaded up to your Wix sites which I will be checking at the end of each week. (See Tasks below)

Week 1 (24/9/19 - 27/9/19)
We've been called in and we've lined up a few songs that we've voted in the gig. Those songs that were relevant to my performing were American Boy by Estelle. And as the song vote process goes, we also volunteered with our preferred choice of instrument to play for the song we have chosen. I chose to play the role as a bassist.
Everybody had begun to listen to the song independently, so that we could quickly slim through our parts based off sound. This allowed me to identify the correct notes played: root notes in octaves. Then our band rehearsed non stop throughout the week.
After rehearsing in the venue, Marc had advised me to play a different rhythmic pattern, to lock in with the drums and sound more authentic to the song. Once I had approval of the new rhythm on the bass, I began to experiment with different licks and run downs to see what suits the song.
While Manny had spent some time being educated of which strumming pattern to use, I was using my get it formed into my muscle memory.
All that was left was backing vocal harmonies to be assessed. With help from Marc, Manny and Myself giving our opinions and advice to perfect the backing vocals, we achieved preparedness.
On the Friday showcase, American boy was ready to perform and our instrumental feedback was mostly positive.
Only that manny should keep consistency with the strum pattern, and that I need to lock in with the drums more tightly. I've learned that moving with the pulse of the the drums helps achieve this.

Concept Idea
I don't have an overall idea of what the gig should be, the way I see it is that it's the assignment of the second year, so any idea would be great.
Except since it is Halloween, I'd like to see an obvious theme...
Halloween
I was have to have outfits based off of creepy pastas, horror films and Halloween Monsters. Dress like a killer clown, Jason Vorhees, a werewolf, a vampire, or whoever and whatever your heart desires to be. It's Halloween, you're never too old to dress up, even if it's just in a black, red and/or orange colour scheme. It's your outfit, it's your choice. Who's going to judge when it's Halloween, right?
And as for songs, choose creepy sounding songs, or songs with creepy lyrics. If you're a Billie Eilish fan, Bury a Friend is popular for being creepy. I always found Arctic Monkey's Crying Lighting to have a sort of 50s/60s horror flick vibe written all over it. Highly Suspect's Bath Salts has such an angry tone with lyrics about feeling possessed by drugs. Beautiful People by Marylin Manson is agreed by both those who love it or hate it, that it has a scary aura to it's sound.
or we can take songs from Halloween films, like Puttin on the Ritz, from young Frankenstein.
We have the ability to take songs like those, and put them in the style of a creepier song. Like Avenged Sevenfold's A little Piece of Heaven, or Welcome to the Family.
The song examples I've given are to my preferences. Feel free to throw your own choice creepy songs.
And I can't stress this enough
WRITE SONGS!
Originality is a beautiful thing.

MUSICIANS PROFILE
My first instrument was the piano, which I started at a very young age by getting my hands on my sister's toy keyboard at the age of three.
A few years after, reading comics and watching interviews of bands and musicians, It inspired me to pick up a bass in school. I learned to play guitar by implementing the things I learned on bass on the 6 string.
Since then, names such as Arctic Monkeys, Lily Allen, Hendrix, Breaking Benjamin, Eminem and even Frederick Chopin have inspired me to expand my musical taste to listen to: Hip-Hop, Classical, Traditional, Rock including all of it's sub-genres including metal, indie, punk and blues), Blues, Pop, Jazz, Swing, Folk, Country, and so many more genres and sub-genres.
Most recently I've been revisiting swing, Blues, and rock, but also been exploring world music from East Asia, Lofi Hip-hop, and some folk songs.
My musical hero is too difficult to restrict to one, as there's Damon Albarn, and Joshua Homme, for being apart of so many projects and still keeping a cheery, party going lifestyle, there's Billie Eilish for achieving fame, and publicly breaking the rules, Mike Kerr and Jack White for creating such a unique, unrivalled sound and setup, RATM and the Clash for standing up for what they believed in, a young boy called Sammy Copley for achieving a large audience at such a young age, being so cheerful and still living a lifestyle no different to ours. There's so many more, but I would go forever.
My first gig as both a performer and as an audience has been thanks to the college, and due to an empty bank account, it hasn't really extended from there. The only shows I've ever seen outside of college were three musicals and one opera.
In 12 months time I would like to see myself start a music career, and I'd like to see myself using more pedals, practising new techniques
In 5 years time I hope to have already started a band, along with recording and performing solo as well, hopefully gigging by then.
In 10 years time I dream of collaborating with other people. I hope to have a better ability in songwriting.

UCAS task
You will need to research your progression options over the summer period. This means looking through the courses available on the UCAS website and attending open days for any of the courses that you are interested in.
Also you will need to post a musicians profile onto Tumblr. It needs to be written in a way that expresses your passions
Include:
How did you first get into music/being a musician?
What kind of music are you into right now? Who have you been to see play?
Why do you play the instrument you do? (What brand do you play/want to play? Why?)
Who is your musical hero? Why?
What is your past experience as a musician?
Link experiences to skills that you have gained so far.
What do you want to accomplish as an artist over the coming 12 months?
Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years time?
What about 10 years time?
Link to Your best stuff: Post your three best performances that show your skill level/versatility
Make sure that this is posted onto your Tumblr site before the start of Term

Important Dates For The Year
Hello,
Please relate the following information to your parents/guardians in respect to booking any holidays and events.
Please do not use the North Kent College Website holiday dates as we don’t always use the same half-term dates as the rest of the college.
You will be able to take the first college half term, this term (22nd-26th October) but not the half terms for the other two terms of the year.
Remember that you will need to be available to watch other shows and perform front of house duties throughout the year. We will give you plenty of notice. You generally have a choice of nights to attend shows.
For your own public performances, you will need to keep the following dates free:
Your year group will have Thursdays off. This will always be the case except for the week before and week of any shows you are involved with and an outside theatre trip we have planned.
Your first gig will be on the evening of the 12th of October so you will need to be available to come in on Thursday 11th of October.
On the same evening as the gig, we will be inviting your parents to come to an event called ‘Friends of the Miskin’ This is their chance to come and meet the staff here and find out more about how your course works and ask us any questions they might have. This will be from 7-8 o’clock at the Miskin Theatre
The second years will be performing at a performing arts ‘Freshers’ party on the evening of the 19th of October to celebrate with all of you who have passed the 6 week trial period.
You will be expected to be available on Thursday 22nd of November to attend a matinee performance of ‘Motown The Musical’ at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London’s West End.
Christmas Holidays.
You may have the opportunity of performing some music at a Christmas gig on the evening of the 14th of December. The latest day you will be called in will be December 17th. You are not called back until Monday the 7th of January
The 2nd term show dates are the 28th of February, Friday 1st of March and Saturday 2nd of March
Musicians will need to be available to work evenings from the 25th of February. The college half term week is the week before this show and you WILL be called in for that week. You will also be working on the Thursday (21st of February) of the week before
You will be called in on Tuesday the 5th of March for a debrief but you will be able to take the rest of the week off as your half term break (6th-8th of March.)
We will break up for Easter on April 5th. You are called back on the 23rd of April
You will be expected in on Thursday 16th of May to play a lunchtime gig for the Student Union BBQ
Your third term public show dates are 6th-7th of June
Musicians will need to be available to work evenings from the 3rd of June and both Thursdays during that two-week period. (30th May and 6th of June)
Please note that again the college half term is the week before this show and you WILL be called in that week
We will break up officially for the Summer on the 5th of July where you may have the opportunity of playing at the end of year Prom.
You will however be finished with all coursework by the 28th of June and attendance/playing at the prom is optional.
Please Note that GCSE/functional skills sessions supersede any time off you have been given on this notice and you will still need to attend classes at times when the rest of your year group have time off.

FMP Pitch
My idea for the FMP, relating to the theme of ‘enlightenment’ is something that surely hasn’t been done at the college before. Firstly, there are 3 main definitions of enlightenment:
1. The action of enlightening or the state of being enlightened
2. The action or state of attaining or having attained spiritual knowledge or insight, in particular (in Buddhism) that awareness which frees a person from the cycle of rebirth.
3. A European intellectual movement of the late 17th and 18th centuries emphasising reason and individualism rather than tradition. It was heavily influenced by 17th-century philosophers such as Descartes, Locke, and Newton.
When I was researching the definitions, the 3rd one stood out to me as I think this philosophy relates to the millennial generation. In modern society, everything is diverse - particularly technology and fashion. However, despite all the advances that this generation has, I believe that a lot of people take advantage of their own advantages and are disillusioned to positive reason. I also believe a lot of people are too quick to judge and have a lack of empathy; yet an increase of ego and their social media image. My idea for the FMP is presenting quick montages of clips with images (scenery, momentous) that have relate to the definition of enlightenment.
Here are some examples of music that would benefit the presentation of this theme:

my second half of my pitch.
The Daily News
its like war of the worlds, except its songs that could be covers or our own songs based upon subjects like LGBT, Politics, Mental Illness, etc. It could be anything that deserves awareness.
lighting could be used to represent the scene and who the would be the main focus of whats on stage, or build a dramatic scene or what not.
there will be related films and visuals.....
the benefits will be one hell of a show. We get to focus on sounding good in the terms music, while everyone in the tech side have to work for us. if we want we can film something
basically to sum it up, we're the newspaper but on stage.
songs could be used : magazine- editors
natural- I.D
ghost-Badflower
Dont drink the water.
or anything that discusses things you'd find on a newspaper
