‎Lap Of Truth Results

Right after tonight's Smack Down we held a single lap standing start race. Unfortunately Rand showed up (maybe because there was pie for the winner?) and put us all to shame.

Waiting for Rand Results
A good amount of people came out for the Smack Down tonight. Including some new blood! Stoked to see Alex and Ryan participate. Unfortunately Rand showed up too late, so Giel's Merckx record still stands.

So Fred Moyer just biked 273 laps on the Polo Field... that's 300KM (186 miles)!
He started at 6:30 this morning and originally had planned to ride 400K but decided that was a bit too much. Phipps came out to assist him for the last 30K.
To do 300K on the PF is insane and our hats are off to you Fred!

Almost a New Course Record!
Tumblr media
Fresh off his win at the 2013 Northern California/Nevada Time Trial Championships, and with the football fields closed (no foot traffic blocking us), Phipps decided it was time for a new course record and put the hammer down. Unfortunately the wind was a bit ridonk and he was only 2 seconds shy of breaking his own record.

*Jared saved the day by improving his old Cat 3 Merckx record by 31 seconds! Good thing he still hasn't upgraded to Cat 2 yet, or else Jacob would have been bummed...

New Polo Field KOM
So a certain Rand Miller set a new Strava KOM on the Polo Field. Who is this guy? Where does he come from? Has he ever ridden the Polo Field before? Is this KOM legit? Are we going to let this slide or not?

Important Information About the Polo Field
Tumblr media
Recently some close calls have happened between cyclists and non cyclists using the Polo Field in the Golden Gate Park. SF Rec and Park contacted us to discuss the use of the Polo Field.
The Field
When the field is in use, do not use the track. The soccer, ultimate frisbee and lacrosse players using the field have paid permits. People and kids will constantly be walking in and out.
General rule: if you see organized sports on the field, do not bike on the track.
The Track
The track around the field is for cycling and cycling only. If people are using it for non cycling activities, kindly ask them to get off the track. Signs will be posted soon to back this up.
Courtesy rule: stay to the right if you are biking slow.
Schedule
An official schedule will be available soon with more detailed information when you can go ride the track. But for now:
On weekends the track is closed to cyclists.
On Mondays the field is "resting" from the weekend use, so the track is open for bikes.
During the week the track is open to biking in the morning.
When it rains, the field is closed, so the track is open.
Polo Field Smack Down
And finally some info for those racing PFSD.
At the start, look back to make sure you are not about to hinder other bikers.
Stay on the left and always pass on the right.
Only after you're done with your race, move to the far right to recover (don't forget to look back first).
Besides our regular 15 lap PFSD, we will soon be organizing other events, so keep this site and the official PFSD Twitter account in check!
If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, feel free to leave a comment.

New Merckx Record!
Tumblr media
Although it was bitter cold, windy and turning dark rather fast, a fair amount of people came out for the Smack Down. Must be the upcoming Merco and Madera stage races...
Pl Name Team C Time Diff Aero Notes 1 James Enright SquadraSF 1 21:56 +0:00 BWHS 2 Isaac Sparling SquadraSF 3 22:15 +0:19 BDHS 3 Oli Ryan Team Mike's Bikes p/b Incase 2 22:20 +0:24 BW 4 Giel de Nijs ThirstyBear Cycling U35 1 22:31 +0:35 - Merckx Record! 5 Chris Phipps ThirstyBear Cycling 1 22:37 +0:41 W 6 Jacob Berkman Team Mike's Bikes p/b Incase 2 23:26 +1:30 B 7 Marcel Appelman Team Mike's Bikes p/b Incase 2 23:45 +1:49 - 8 Jason Benford Giga OM-ARO Pistachios 3 23:52 +1:56 BH 9 Fred Moyer Mission Cycling 5 26:02 +4:06 CHS
SquadraSF took the top 2 spots. But the ride of the night belongs to Dutch powerhouse Giel de Nijs (on the ThirstyBear Cycling Development team), who set a new Merckx Record of 22:31.
