TIMELINES
"TimeLine is a continuous exercise on researching, thinking, making, working both on your own and in groups, and sharing.
From a personal perspective, there are reasons why you have decided to study art and not something else. This expertise that you have and bring to your studies is something important for you, and it can also be important for all of us. How can you share this in the best possible way?"
TIMELINE 1#: LETTERS TO FRIENDS, FOES AND FAMILY
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I was thinking what to do for the first timeline assignment I was thinking, how do I showcase myself and who I am? What even make me the person I am? Only to realize, it’s the people around me that have made me who I am today. So I decided to honor 10 of them.
I did so by making little portraits of everyone. Originally I had wanted to do this with actual portraits based from their photos, only to start realizing that I don’t speak to some of them and it would be strange to draw or paint them. I also realized I’m not doing art in highschool anymore and I can relax from constant portraits and semi realism. I told myself relax, you're aloud to have fun with your assignments now.
So that’s what I did, I had fun drawing representations of how I see all of these people in my head in oil pastels. I then wrote snippets of what I wish to tell them as if writing a letter to the drawings on the page. For some theres is so much more to say, for some there is simply no need to. All of them just as important as the last.
TIMELINE #2: HAND PICKED
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back home I have a collection of cassette tapes, most of which I had inhereted from a friend when she passed down her cassette player to me. I knew it wouldn’t make sense to bring all of them, as that would take up half a suitcase, so I made myself make the choice of 10 cassettes that I wanted to bring the most. Under each is a brief story of how I aquire each casette or why I brought it with me.
TIMELINE #3: WHAT REMAINS/WHAT BECOMES
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I often think about how unhappy I used to be as a teenager, especially because that was the time when I started drawing and which led me to continue making art to this day. Most of the time the work that I made was fueled by the terrible feelings trapped inside of me that had no where else to do but into pen and paper. That stayed the same for many many years. My anger and sadness was my skeleton, without it I was nothing.
This is not the case anymore, as I can finally say that I am happy. I’m happy with what I make and happy with who I am. I’m happy just living life.
How does my art change now that I no longer need to release a large amount of negetive energy somewhere? Am I staying melancholy to the grusome things I lived through and make art which is nostalgic to the pain? Or am I moving on and seeing how I can express the newfound joy that I now feel?
So far it is the latter. This work is like a letter to the teenager that I used to be. I’m ackowledging the originis and how things change, the 2 previos timelines being the people that helped me change, as well as things that I take to keep moving, chosing what must be left behind to change.

Drawing Station 2, Marathon
On Monday December 11th I woke up at 7 am to go to a station skill i was not registered for and then went to my scheduled class right afterwards, leading me to have 2, 3 hour long drawing classes back to back. Here are th results of that!
Vogue Model Drawing Station Skill
I'm a big fan of Victor's station skills. He really likes to encourage us to get loose, get jiggy with it and try to let go of your normal art habbits. He really be pushing you around but in a way you need it!
First up we drew some fast skeletons to get a sense for proportion. And then we got to the vogue. I though Vogue Model drawing would have a live model involved but it didn't, we were drawing models from memory/reflexs. This was surprisingly easier that I remember (probably because I'm getting a better feel for anatomy), And I had a lot of fun giving them cunty poses and outfits. Honestly was starting to consider switching focuse to fashion illustration lol! Made me feel like I was 5 years old again drawing girls in princess dresses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think we weren't being spontaneous enough so we switched from vogue to doing quick prompts. Each promts followed, Who? Where? Doing what? and we set a 50 second timer to quicklt draw what first came to mind. No I will not be explainign any of the prompts, try to see if you can guess any of them!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we went for a coffee break and when I came back we were posing for eachother to draw so I don't quite know how we got there lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bonus! Some drawings that were done of me in my crazy poses that made my knees and my back hurt but it was vogue so IDGAF

Sixth Lesson, Model Drawing part 3
Content Warning, Drawn weenie
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can I be honest and vulnerable here for a sec? (Of course I can, this is my fucking blog!) I don't draw men, like almost ever? I don't have a reason to and I don't particularly feel the strong urge to do so. Most of the forms in my drawing embody a kinda gender neutral leaning body proportions, like if a man and a woman had a baby lol. So this was not only my first time drawing a male nude model, but also like the most I've ever drawn a man like period. He was also our most dynamic model if you couldn't tell!
I love the dynamics, but I think because of the rough paper I was using, I couldn't figure out how to get much lead tone variation, and in result couldn't figure out how to translate the poses to be dynamic on paper as well. But still turned out pretty good!
My fav one is that back one where accidentally made him look like the witcher lol

Material Experimentation: Transparent Transfer Paper Part 2
I got bored of just folding Transparent paper so i added color to it with alcohol markers to see what layering he colors would do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then I decided to weave it to see how all of the colors overlap

Material Experimentation: Transparent Transfer Paper Part 1
Aka how many different times can i fold and glue different pieces of fuckin paper
Interview Research
Before fucking around with any paper I interviewed some of my classmates about what they think about it.
Notes from wolf about experimentation:
Result not research, how can you work on the material itself, without the influence of other materials itself
Not focused on a certain image, focused on the research itself. Not to make something, but to explore it. New ways of using the material.
Aliases: Transfer paper, Colored Vellum, Calc Paper
Charlie: has used baking sheets and tracing paper sheets but the same type of thing
1.What did you use it for?
 Transferring sketches to nicer paper.
2.Would you use it again?
No because his final work is usually bigger than his originalpieces
3.What do you think about transparent things?
They're cool, the variety in opaqueness, hiding things in the layers
4.What's a daily use of transparent paper?
Paper for checks, which is not transparent but it is transfer paper.
Baking paper.
Traditional Animation
5.How would an animal use transparent paper?
It would rip it up, maybe eat it and build a transparent nest with it. Some animals try to go through it, maybe if it was transparent enough.
Anastasia:
used it on a projector, to project an image on the wall
2.Yes sure, you can do a lot of things with them, it makes life easier.
3. Some of the like, but depends on the object, like transparent bags are not it.
4. Good for transferring text and transferring writing, and baking. Have a transparent notebook? Rolling papers since it’s transparent
5. Probably eat it. Give it to a cat, they would just play with it. Monkey would do something more interesting.
Luisa:
1.Used before, to transfer, never focused on it to see what can be done
2. Yes
3. Challenging, no color to base on. With art works, it could be too neutral, and needs more. Transparent boots are a no.
4. Art class, not very existing
5. Eating it, smell it first, then probably throw it away because it’s an unknown thing
Wolf:
Yes, to make kites, kite paper, very light and semi transparent, turns more transparent with lacquer, what can make it more transparent? Like grease and oil
Depends, if i need it i'll use it, but not interested in paper that much. Only if necessary. Stain glass windows in primary school
As material, interest in it, that you can divide different spaces but you still have a connection with the other side, like a window. Contact with the outside visually yet we are totally separated like sound and weather.
Envelopes with a transparent window
Depends on the size of the paper. If it’s confetti, ants pick it up after the feast. Birds naturally pick up random trash, that bird would have used it for the nest because they adapt to the circumstance of a city.
Now lets get back to entering the question, how many different ways can I fuck with paper
Plain Folding and Crumpling
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cutting and putting back together with tape, which gave it a fabric like property. Very cool but took so damn long
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Putting together the thinner paper, gluing it in layers to make it ironically less transparent
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Curling with scisors

Stabbing Holes with a fork and a Pencil

Presentation Light
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gosh this was a quite a while ago and only now am I finally posting about presentation light.
The feedback I was given which, i realized was very very true very quickly, was that there's too many things. Yes it's good to have a lot of work! But it's imposible to present it all. I wanted to explain everything but I physically didn't have enough time to do so!
What's the important part that I want the audience to focus on? What is acually the key elements to showcase? Just plain simply what the fuck do we look at?
In the end I realized I could have put half as much work and it would have been better. Good to note for next time!

Drawing Station 1
This is the station I had been waiting the longest to finally start doing! I was expecting what i expect most often, what is considered as academic drawing but was kinda delightfully surprised to have a good mix of both so far!
First lesson, Walk and draw
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First assignment, easy enough! Take a bunch of paper, go walk around, capture!
I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would actually, felt like letting go and just letting the pen flow, as if just working with my subconscious. I realized at one point that I was basically doing people watching on x games mode. As people walk by me, i captured their jackets, their conversations, ect. Walking around the academy I law a lot of wires and electronics, and i liked focusing on that linear aspect combined with the people that i drew.
After drawing we came in and got tape to connect all of our pieces. I really liked the almost electrical tape that i took, and i ripped into thin pieces which I layed out over the exhisting wires that i drew, giving them more shape and dirrection. I also used this to connect all of the disjunkt drawings, making all the exhisting wires connect in a loop. A closed circut if you will!
Second Lesson, Figure Drawing
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Exhiting doesn't begin to describe how I felt about this class. I have never done live model drawing at this intensity, by size and time and skill. As well that it was nude drawing I was also shitting bricks because the model was naked and I got very nervouse.
The first page was a warm up where we had to follow the models movement, kinda just in energy and then we got cracking to quick poses. I loved sketching this big even though it ment I couldn't work into the drawing more. Also after this class I realized that I had gotten quicker and more accuret at drawing people! So bonus on that
BONUS ROUND! Station Skill, Digital Model Drawing
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What do I do the next day after my first time model drawing? I go and I do it again of course!
I liked how this class had a lot more focuse on shadow and light and capturing figure rather than only capturing the model. The first drawing was to me, a warm up, and the biggest challende here now was fighting photoshop since I had never painted in it before.
Word of advice that I realized right about now in drawing station, never ever look at other peoples work WHILE you're still working on yours. I kept glancing over at other people's work and being like DAMN. It wasn't that I was doing something wrong either, we were all just painting differently, but in the moment it always feels like you're doing the wrong thing.
Also I squeezed into this class without regestering cus I just wanted to attend it so bad lol. Really like Victor's classes and I'd like to attend more. He gave me the greenlight to show up unregistered btw! some people just always skip without unregestering
Third Lesson, Tree of Words
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She said pick a word and surprise me!
The day before this lesson I had been experimenting with ink and how to capture and essense of allusivness as well as barely being there. So decided with the first drawing to carry on with that. I don't actualy remember what word I picked, but I'm preatty sure it was shame. So person in ink falling to their death? maybe!
After looking over at other people working (against my own advice), I saw how much of a fluffy edge you can get when working with charcoal. I'm not a big fan of working with charcoal due to how messyyyyy it gets but alas I was really after this fluffy barely there effect. Took the plunge and refrence some old old photos of a friend from 2021. I tried to make a big contrast and try to demonstrate the snow from the photos but idk how good that attempt was. I can always try again!
Forth Lesson, Model Drawing Part Two
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3rd time doing model drawing is a lot less intimidating. This lesson I tried more on capturing not only figure but also shadows and dimension. I also realized I gotta scale down no matter how much I love going bigger, I just dont have enough time to work into the drawings on such a scale. I think a lot of these would have looked more rendered and better looking if I just had more time. But oh well! you live and you learn.

Elective Week 2023, Artistic Research,Theme of Home
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I though this elective would be a lot more "serious" from it's description before starting. We were gona have an artist statement and everything. But instead on the first day the teacher said, yknow what fuck that, lets have fun. And have fun we did!
Since we never had to write an artist statement I have the chance to do that here.
Welcome to "A Home For My Words".
Over the years my urge to work with words and letters grows stronger and stronger. Worlds and pictures stand as equal delivering devices to me: I could paint you a picture of something I cannot say and you would understand, but likewise I could tell you something that I would be unable to ever draw and visualize, and you would still be able to understand.
This realization is making me loosen the vice grip on preconcived notions for myself and what can art can be. For somereason art that is just words and no pictures seemed strange to do, like a move banned from the dojo. So this was my first dip into the water of inching away from illustration with an accompaniment of words, and reaching towards words being able to stand on their own. Alas though I am a man on habit, and as you can see some illustrations still remain. Now that's quite vague and applies to a lot of what I do or try to do now.
Dialing into this home though, you can see there's a lot of writing. Some of it are lyrics from songs that I like, some are my own thoughts. Some meaningless and some dripping with pain. All of these live at the same time in my head, and now they can live in a house! Not everything is legible, some due to positioning some due to my own shit handwriting (truly a curse to want to make text art and having an illegible handwriting). But this introduces the idea: do all my thoughts need to be written out and show to others? Does anyone else need to understand? Why do I feel the need to have all of it read and understood? I have no anwsers to these questions yet.
I know you're wondering about the tangerines, everyone does! I won't lie, it was a last minute decision due to buying tangerines at the store before class due to being sick, but the point stands. I share my words with others like I share tangerines with my friends. The act of peeling one's thoughts and being able to hand it over to another person is quite vulnerable and a caring act to me. If I can spill my brain to you I care, I care enough to peel you a tangerine. Plus it looks like new age modern furniture. How can one have a house without furniture?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now about the house itself structurally. I don't know about any other rooms but there's definitly a garage. That's the one with the room that has "who's gonna read this?" written on the roof. 3 of the rooms were made before this project, the ones with the people (both of them being me actually lol fun fact) for timeline class, and the one with a window facing into the house being the room I made on the first lesson, to try to show my real room. What can I say, I wanted a house! And a house needs many rooms!
All of these rooms are colapsable, every piece engenired like a paper dollhouse that you can take apart, fold away and forget about it. This vaguely mirrors my own life. Every couple of years I move and I have to pack my whole life and move away like it's nothing. I pack my stuff and my feelings and anything that ever mattered. I pack like I pack this house, pretending like taping it back together on location and then ripping it appart to go home doesn't damage the paper and the corners and how it never quiet sits the same again. Some of the writing in the house reflects these feeling, especially he room with the window.
Hope that wasn't too long for an artist statement lol but who can stop me? This is my fucking blog!
