hi, my name is ___ and I鈥檓 calling in regards to an endangered species that is being disturbed by a construction site in Minnesota. The Canadian company Enbridge is currently putting a Tar sands pipeline that threatens the habit of the Higgins Eye Pearlymussel. Enbridge is responsible for the largest inland oil spill in US history, and has a proven track record of building leaky, faulty pipelines. I believe that pipeline 3 is in fact already leaking and actively destroying the fragile and critical habitat of the Higgins Eye Pearlymussel. Please investigate this immediately and take appropriate action to stop the extinction of this species.

Let me tell you about SISEA
Tumblr media
If you haven鈥檛 heard about it yet, SISEA is a bipartisan bill introduced in the US senate by Ben Sasse (R) and Jeff Merkley (D)
It includes a series of overly strict regulations to be imposed on the online porn industry, and would basically have the same results as the tumblr porn ban, but internet-wide.
Here鈥檚 just a few of the rules it proposes:
Requires verified ID and signed consent forms for everyone involved in the production and uploading of adult content
Requires the PLATFORM, not the user, hosting pornography to include a banner or notice on the site that tells you how to request the removal of content if you didn鈥檛 consent to being in the video
Prohibiting VIDEO DOWNLOADS on all platforms that host pornographic content within three months of the legislation passing
These platforms are ALL required to have a 24hr MANNED hotline, staffed by the platform, for content removal requests. (No clarification on how the person requesting the removal would be expected to prove their identity, and this is IN SPITE OF the rigorous verification process the proposed law ALSO REQUIRES, so this is likely to be abused by trolls)
Requires removal of flagged videos within TWO HOURS.
Requires all platforms to have an algorithm to prevent videos that have been removed (by the host, not the uploaded) from being reuploaded after removal
The above is to be enforced by the FTC
Creating a DATABASE OF PEOPLE who do not consent to being in adult videos, which must be checked BEFORE ANY NEW CONTENT CAN BE UPLOADED, the specifics of which are to be decided by the Department of Justice, and failure to comply with this requirement will be punished with a fine
So I鈥檓 sure by now that everyone has an idea of how bad this will be for not only sex workers, but any and all platforms that people use to post adult content, whether it鈥檚 the platform鈥檚 intended use or not, as well as anyone who consumes said content.
The rules concerning digital content, as many are probably wondering, are incredibly vague. Here鈥檚 a breakdown on twitter of why these rules in particular would be disastrous:
So, you鈥檙e probably wondering
鈥淲hat can I do to stop this from being passed?鈥
Right now, I haven鈥檛 seen any petitions about this particular legislation, but I 100% advise and advocate for calling your state鈥檚 representatives and senators and demanding they speak out against this bill and it鈥檚 absolutely impossible requirements.
Here鈥檚 a list of current US Senators and their official contact info:
Here鈥檚 the info for US Congresspeople:
And here鈥檚 the article where I originally heard about SISEA, because I don鈥檛 see many people talking about it yet:

So I told one of my managers yesterday that I would be needing time of work this Tuesday to go and vote because I didn鈥檛 realize I was scheduled for a long shift and won鈥檛 be off before the polls close.
She then proceeds to ask me why I couldn鈥檛 early vote.
I tell her that I guess I could have but I didn鈥檛 and the option was now closed and my next and last chance is Tuesday.
Cue her giving me a hard time for not early voting.
I politely tell her that I didn鈥檛 so I鈥檒l be requiring time off on Tuesday.
Her response?
鈥淚 mean we鈥檒l try to get you out.鈥
Umm no.
I say - 鈥淟egally the law requires that you allow me time off work to go vote.鈥
Her response?
鈥淵es, I mean legally it does.鈥
Yes bitch, legally! As in the law! As in it is my right!
So whatever, I leave her office with a bad taste in my mouth and run into a coworker (who鈥檚 worked there as long as I鈥檝e been alive), and I tell her about what happened.
She goes OFF, tells me I better make sure they let me go vote Tuesday and that if they try to fight me on it to tell them to look in their files for the law that she printed off for them years ago stating my right to do so.
So she leaves and I feel a bit better but just for shits and giggles I decide to look up the law for Tennessee voting rights (I knew it was a law that they have to let you off but I didn鈥檛 know the exact parameters.)
You know what Tennessee law says?
Up to three hours PAID time to go vote, (and my dumb ass was planning on clocking out.)
You best believe that if someone tries to argue with me Tuesday I鈥檒l be slapping down a copy of that law and my ACLU membership card, I鈥檓 pretty sure they don鈥檛 want to be hearing from those lawyers.

For the past few years, for Brian Jacques鈥 birthday, I鈥檝e run a charity fundraiser. This year, instead of me organizing a fundraiser, I鈥檇 like to encourage people to donate to groups associated with the BLM movement, as well as LGBT+ groups. I鈥檝e compiled a list here that is up to date at the time of posting, but feel free to add if you鈥檇 like. Some things are links to other lists of links for the sake of length. Donate to multiple organizations to support Black Trans Groups Therapy Fund For Black Women Petitions to Sign (as of June 11) Collection of BLM Carrds Youtube Videos to watch to support BLM Bail Fund For Atlanta Protestors LGBTQ Freedom Fund And then I came across this Really competent and well organized Google Doc of groups in the UK you can support.
