A kind of ugly emotion flares in skekSept’s chest and for a split second, indignation makes him bristle. It is not his fault that he can’t seem to put words together; he’s barely been in this form.
“They look like what’s on your back,” He says in a tight voice instead.
And takes a breathe, “They … look like me. But older. And they like to steal people’s youth.” A bit blunt. The other boy avoids Kubo’s wary gaze now, head pivoting, “Mine’s especially. Which means I’m … dangerous.” To be around
He half expected Kubo to say ‘toodle-oo’ and be done with him at that point.
“ MY SHAMISEN? ” He ponders for a moment, head turning to glance at the instrument that he usually kept strapped behind him. But then it clicks, he does not forget the stag beetle emblazoned on his robes. “ OH ... that. ” The child clears his throat, and the awkwardness.
His brows furrow as the bird creature explains its situation, and the elders themselves. A nod of sympathy, and even empathy bled out from the young, one-eyed bard -- he knows what its like to be pursued. By dangerous, he had to have meant that he could put others in danger just for being around them. BOY, didn’t that sound familiar.
“ WELL THEN, we’d better get going. ” Kubo jostles the shamisen on his back, sounding sincere and enthusiastic. “ We can’t avoid trouble just by staying in one place, don’t you agree?”
He wasn’t shaken.
