How did you become so good at facial expressions?
Mine always look so stiff or doesn't convey the intensity of the emotion I want to portray
(I'm also still new to art so it's most definitely a skill issue lol)
I just love how you can make faces soft or intense and everything in between
thank you!<33!!! and I think theres a lot that goes into it but I'll list a few things I consider when i do my expressions!
asymmetry!!I think the more symmetrical an expression is the more it feels fake/ingenuine and especially with high emotions I like to always exaggerated the assymetry of eyes/eyebrows/ nostrils! I think this helps too bc if you're going for a very uncanny/scary character it can almost help to make their face symmetrical bc its less human ykno?
The lower and upper eyelids! See how the bottom two eyes have a completely different vibe just from the lower eyelids? I think theyre almost one of the most important parts and even a subtle shift in the lower eyelid can imply a character is about to scream/cry/laugh/etc
3. Wrinkles!!! you dont have to overdo wrinkles but I really think theyre what make an expression a lot of the time. like adding a wrinkle next to a nostril to show a nostril flare or a crease near the eyebrows adds a lot ykno?
4. pupil/eye size! I try to do big round pupils when a character is happy to convey a dilated look and smaller ones when a character is meant to be ominous/scary!
