making pour decisions
summary: as gyehyeon's best friend, it was your responsibility to haul his drunk ass back home before he could possibly do anything that he would regret the next day.
warnings: mentions of alcohol + some swearing
a/n: i think gyehyeon would be a very giggly and overly affectionate drunk irl idk i can't explain but i just know 🤷♀️

"twenty-four karat magic in the aaaaaiirrrrrr! head to toe so player!!" gyehyeon belts out along with the song playing on the radio with his whole heart while doing the choreography. your right hand darts out to turn down the volume of the radio as your left hand grips the steering wheel tightly, carefully maneuvering through the dimly lit road you were on.
even for someone who had delayed reflexes right now, it only took gyehyeon a second to realize that the volume had been decreased. he threw you a dirty look as he reached out to turn the knob to the loudest volume possible. no hard feelings though, since he was very drunk.
once you arrive in your driveway, you park your car and glanced over to your side. your best friend was now slumped over in the seat, close to being asleep. one would've never guessed he was just screaming bruno mars lyrics a few minutes ago. it looks like he had spent all his energy partying and singing.
now, you had to attempt to get gyehyeon out of the passenger seat of your car. he resists for a minute or so until you finally unbuckle his seatbelt for him. "where are you taking me?? do i know you???" he yells. you quickly clamp a hand over his mouth. you didn't want your neighbors to get suspicious and call the police.
clearly disoriented, gyehyeon stumbles through your front door, his shirt partially tucked into his pants and his hair a bit messy. although he didn't even know where he was or who you were, he recognized the refrigerator. gyehyeon goes up to the fridge and starts pressing the ice cube button.
gyehyeon continously held the button down, which caused several ice cubes to fall onto the floor. he crawled down on all fours, picked an ice cube off the floor, and started crunching on it.
"gyehyeon, no!" you felt like you were scolding a three-year old toddler for putting something they shouldn't have in their mouth. alcohol truly did wonders to the brain.
you swatted gyehyeon away and made him sit down at one of the chairs in the kitchen as you started to clean the ice cubes off the floor. after you were done cleaning up the mess he had made, you handed gyehyeon a glass of water and sat in the chair next to him.
gyehyeon rested his elbow on the table and propped his head up with his left hand. you didn't even notice that he had already been staring at you for five whole minutes until he asked you a question. gyehyeon had a completely serious expression on his face. "wait a minute. hold up. are you y/n??"
in a flash, he goes from a poker-faced expression to a grin, laughing a little. "i never thought i'd see you here." gyehyeon attempts to pick up the glass of water.
unfortunately, gyehyeon's motor skills weren't at peak performance at the moment, so most of the water spilled out of the glass when he held it to his lips to take a sip. "oh shit!" he shrieks to no one in particular as he attempts drying his soaked shirt by uselessly flapping his hands in front of the stain.
gyehyeon looks at you again, but this time, he looks around before turning back to face you. gyehyeon lowers his voice and holds a finger to his lips. "i ordered five-hundred chicken nuggets from my phone while you were cleaning up. but it's a secret though, so don't tell anyone."
he giggles after telling you this, clearly satisfied with what he had done. you were surprised by his sudden confession. well, drunken confession. it was extremely uncharacteristic of gyehyeon to spend money on such ridiculous things. but keep in mind, he was completely wasted.
however, a spark of warmth arose inside of your heart. you wanted to protect gyehyeon even more whenever he was in a drunken state. "don't worry, your secret is safe with me," you play along, a smile on your face. "it's getting late. why don't you get some sleep?"
gyehyeon pouted and started tugging on your sleeve. "i want a hug." when you didn't say or do anything, he took it a step further by clinging onto one of your arms, pulling you into his embrace. "give me hug." gyehyeon was never this affectionate when he was sober.
the way he was acting right now was almost kind of endearing. you tiredly smile at gyehyeon and wrap your arms around him and patted his back. you wondered how much of this he would remember tomorrow.
"alright, gyehyeon, it's time for you to sleep now." you start to peel yourself off of him but he didn't budge. he shoves his face into the crook of your neck and hums. "i also want a goodnight kiss," he mumbles. you freeze a little, unsure if you heard correctly.
after a few seconds of silence, gyehyeon looks up from your neck and pouted when he realized you didn't make any move to kiss him. "aren't you gonna kiss me goodnight?" gyehyeon looked genuinely hurt. even though you knew that he was drunk, your heart ached a little at the sight of him looking so heartbroken.
"gyehyeon... you're drunk right now," you start slowly, unsure of where this is going. gyehyeon pouts and stares at you again, this time with something in his eyes that resembled frustration. "no, i'm not," he insists. "i won't go to bed until i get a goodnight kiss!!"
you sighed at his stubborness and immaturity. drunk gyehyeon was the complete opposite of sober gyehyeon. you had no choice but to give him an exaggerated, but nonetheless chaste kiss on his cheek, right on the birthmark near his eye that you loved so much. it wasn't like he would remember tomorrow, right? "mwah! are you happy now?"
gyehyeon bursts into a fit of cute giggles and nods his head excitedly, hugging you again. "i'm so tiredddd." he dragged out his words and you could see that his eyelids were getting heavy. he snuggles closer and leans into your touch. you couldn't wait to tease him about this tomorrow.

hear me out: oikawa injuring his knee really bad sometime before second year uni, and unable play volleyball professionally, he decides to go into sports medicine and the like because he doesn't want anyone else overworking themselves like him. while in uni, hinata jumps higher, faster, all over the place to get to the top, but an unlucky fall messes up his ankle. someone recs him over to oikawa (and of course hina remembers oikawa, the "Grand King") and well. oikawa's not very happy? bc (1)
2. he hated being called Grand King for starters, and mainly because hinata’s been overworking himself?? like he did??? and the thing is, it’s a freakish parallel, they both did it bc they needed to be at the top, the best, the ones standing over the world, and neither of them wanted to admit something was wrong. so he’s all dismissive, alternating between curt and sickly sweet as he treats hinata and tells him to stop. and thats that? hinata leaves, he prob tells kageyama about it, but then
3. it happens again, maybe just a month later. this time, kageyama is there (to keep hinata from doing something dumb, he says, but actually to see if oikawa really gave up volley to become a… doctor??) and god, do the sparks fly. all of them have matured, and oikawa can admit that a) he was an ass, b) it was his fault that he had to quit, however it was his choice to become a doc, c) …kageyama and hinata are very aesthetically appealing??? they dont seem like they’re together, but damn
4. those asses are fine. unfortunately asking them out would probably be unprofessional and all, so oikawa slyly swaps numbers with them “so that if chibi-chan here starts overworking himself again, you can contact me! and if ur ankle hurts also call bc you should do—”. and then he gets a call the next goddamn day, kageyama going “is this overworking?? is this allowed??? stop making fun of me okay i dont know this shit” and its both annoying and endearing, how worried kageyama is about
5. hinata. sometimes there are legitimate concerns, but most of the time it’s fine. hinata checks in every now and then, but the visits and calls get further and further apart, from days to weeks to months, and oikawa thinks thats the end of it, right? then at 2 in the morning, he gets a call from hina full of the hysteria-beneath-calm tone iwaizumi used when oikawa had originally messed up his knee, and it turns out that the kagehina duo were drunk and decided to play together, and so both
6. were slightly messed up but were they?? and hinata sounds a second away from losing his shit so oikawa just gets there as fast as possible, heart hammering in chest. aaaaand from there its up to yall if you want the idiot duo to be actually injured or not, but either way oikawa yells at them for worrying him and accidentally confessing that hes grown really fond of them over hours and hours of calls, and turns out vice versa, and that they were hoping to get his attention this way??
7. which is obviously, yknow, really dumb, but they were drunk uni students, what do you expect from them. and they prob get scolded by uni coach or some shit (who is def familiar with oikawa, considering that oikrs treats athletes a lot), and there’s a lot of conversations about why that is Bad and Not Good, also at some point they all go out for a date to figure out what is going on?? and they’re all happy the end. -spam anon who likes oihina but accidentally went down oikagehina hell
