Modern Therianthropy is categorized by a deep integral or personal belief that an individual is in some way and to some degree, a non-human animal, based upon involuntary, non-human experience. Physically, therianthropes are human and understand that they have human bodies. Therianthropy is an innate part of the person's life, and recognition and acceptance of the animal within. It makes us what we are, but more importantly who we are. Because there seems to be some confusion over what a therian is and is not, Therianthropy is about the inner nature of one's own self. Therianthropy is about the discovery of the animal within, that humans are born with. You cannot become a therian, you must be born that way. While therians are not tressing that Therianthropy is the only kind of personal animal philosophy/spirituality, they are, however, stressing the differences between Therianthropy and these other 'ways of life' or spiritual beliefs."

"The Frog Princess"

A king asks his three sons (or an old farmer's wife asks her sons) to get married. They should choose their wives by shooting an arrow. The wife is found at the point where the arrow falls. The two older sons find their wives in this way, but the youngest son's arrow falls to the ground on a frog. He is very unhappy and marries the frog.

The king sets his future daughters-in-law various tasks such as spinning clothes, baking bread and the like. The frog outperforms the future wives of the older sons in all tasks. Nevertheless, the youngest son is ashamed of the frog at his side until it suddenly turns into a princess. In some variants, the transformation is a reward for good nature; in others, evil witches are responsible; in still others it turns out that the frog has always been a cursed princess.
