Speaking to Zoe Ball on the presenter's BBC Radio 2 show this morning, Staunton was asked by Ball whether there is more Downton Abbey to come and whether she can tease anything at all.
Staunton then responded: "There will be the final film – there you go."
"I hope we haven’t got you in trouble," Ball joked, to which the actress simply remarked, "I don’t care."
So, there we have it – after months of speculation about the future of the period drama, there will be a new movie on the horizon.

The confirmed news of Downton Abbey's third film comes after reports by The Sun that claimed that the much talked-about movie was being made, and is apparently scheduled to start filming over summer 2024.

Chelsie Christmas Stories ...
In response to @chelsiefan71‘s request for a compilation of our Christmas stories for her blog @christmaswiththecarsons, here are my humble offerings:
Chelsie Christmas Prompts: A series of Chelsie Christmas prompts inspired by Chelsie Fan and Chelsie-Prompts. Carson and Hughes with other characters making appearances.
A Visit From Father Christmas - Carson Style: A re-telling of the classic Twas the Night Before Christmas or A Visit from Father Christmas. This offering is loosely based on the Text Santa 2015 sketch when Charles Carson was enlisted as Santa and my interpretation of what might have come after; Elsie seemed awfully enamored of her husband dressed in Father Christmas’s robes. Rated T for a little holiday naughtiness.
Christmas With the Carsons: This story is a compilation of four chapters taken from Chelsie Christmas A-Z. These chapters were part of an AU in which Charles Carson and Elsie Hughes were married and are shop owners in Downton Village. There is no new material here but this is just a way to organize the chapters that were spread across a broader series of story prompts.
A New Livery: Mr. Carson trades his butler’s livery for a new one as a special Christmas gift to Miss Sybbie, Master George, and Miss Marigold.
When Miss Sybbie Catches Mrs Hughes Kissing Father Christmas: It is Christmas Eve 1924 and Miss Sybbie catches Mrs. Hughes smooching Father Christmas in front of the Christmas tree.
