There’s just something so…gut wrenching about Medusa’s entire monologue after watching episode four. Annabeth spent her time at Auntie Em’s adamantly denying Medusa’s claims. That she was nothing like her, she loved Athena—and implying that Athena loved her in return!! Then we jump one episode and Annabeth’s forced to confront that it really doesn’t matter how hard she works for her mothers affection because at the end of the day her mothers grace can be taken away because of actions that weren’t even her own!! Not only is she forced to make the decision to fight while feeling abandoned, but know she’s forced to confront the reality that she’s eerily similar to someone her mother absolutely despises!!

The way Annabeth slightly tilts her head and parts her lips to speak before closing it after realizing nothing’s coming out…I mean, this is the same girl who went way overboard in the gas station buying snacks and drinks. She clearly wanted to smooth over the fact that she didn’t let Percy leave the bus. She wanted to make friends. The way she slowly blinks when he says it before looking down afterwards? Did her eyes sting? Was she embarrassed? Wondering what was so wrong with her that somebody couldn’t stomach the idea of being her friend?
