If I had a nickel for every band that I’ve been obsessed with that parodies religion, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice right?

Buck, listening to music through his headphones and singing aloud: It’s getting harder to be myself. Do you wish that you loved me?
Eddie without looking up from his book, not realizing it’s song lyrics: I don’t have to wish for that because I already do.
Buck pausing his music: Wh—What?
Eddie still reading: I do love you.
Buck fighting tears: You—You mean like a friend, right?
Eddie finally looking Buck in the eyes: No, Buck. Like I’m in love with you.
Buck: Really?
Eddie going back to his book: Really really.
Buck, sobbing: I can’t believe you just admitted you love me and quoted Shrek within the same 5 minutes. This is the best day ever.

Here, Duffer Brothers, I fixed it for you.
*Spoilers for Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2 below cut*
You have been warned.
Steve kept the vest. He knows he should give it to Eddie’s uncle, but he can’t. He can’t seem to give up the one piece of Eddie that’s left. He knows he doesn’t deserve to have it, but Eddie gave it to him. It’s Eddie’s and Eddie is gone. No one knows he still has it. Not even Robin. Definitely not Nancy. God, he can barely look at her. He looks in her eyes and all he can think is that they’re not the right color. They’re not the warm chocolate doe eyes that whenever they landed on him, he felt seen.
The vest sits there. On his desk chair in his bedroom. He stares at it the first night wondering aloud what could’ve been. The next night he can’t even bear to talk so he just clings to it and tries not to think about the man that looked so naked without it. Eddie’s overwhelming scent has faded and Steve’s has replaced it, but Steve doesn’t care. He knows that Eddie made the vest himself and he’s going to cherish it until it’s threadbare beneath his fingers.
It’s that night that Steve is holding the vest to his chest, sobbing over the man he knew so well but still so little about, when he hears it. It starts off quiet at first, but then it gets louder. A voice. Specifically, Eddie’s voice. It’s a weird sound. Like a record that’s skipping and Steve strains to hear what’s being said.
“Fuckers… me… here. Can’t… Steve…”
Steve nearly jumps out of his skin when he hears his name so clearly. He flicks on his bedside lamp and rises to his feet.
“What… hell?”
“Eddie?” Steve says quietly into emptiness of his room. His lamp begins to flicker and he frowns. What the hell? Eddie is dead. Dustin saw it and said he died.
“Harrington?!” Eddie’s voice is clearer now and Steve doesn’t mean to scream but he can’t help it. Eddie is supposed to be fucking dead. Steve is mourning him. Dustin is mourning him. His fucking uncle is mourning him. “You fucking dick! You fucking left me here! I’m not dead, you asshole. Ever hear of losing consciousness from excessive pain, you prick?!”
“Eddie, we thought you were dead! Dustin said you were!”
“YOU TRUSTED A TRAUMATIZED TEENAGER TO TELL YOU IF SOMEONE HAS A PULSE OR NOT?!” Steve flinches at Eddie’s words because he’s right. Dustin was pretty shook up and scared. What Steve doesn’t know is how he can hear Eddie because Dustin couldn’t hear them from down there. He shrugs it off and chalks it up to a weird ‘get hurt in the Upside Down, get weird Upside Down powers’. He doesn’t know, nor does he care because he can hear Eddie and Eddie can hear him.
“I’m sorry, Eddie. Is the gate in your trailer still open? I’ll come get you right now,” Steve says loud enough that hopefully it’s clear. He hears what sounds like a scoff then a groan then a high pitched voice. Is… is Eddie mocking him? “Are you really mocking me right now, Munson?!”
“Oh jee, I don’t know if the gate is open or not BECAUSE I’M CLEARLY NOT THERE, HARRINGTON. I’m obviously in your house from several years ago, raiding your medicine cabinets! Why? Because I DIDN’T KNOW WHERE ELSE TO GO AND I AM BLEEDING.”
“Alright, alright, keep your pants on. I’ll drive to your trailer, see if the gate is open, and if so, I’ll come get you. Simple. Easy-peasy. In and out in no time,” Steve responds as he’s shoving his feet in his shoes and slipping his jacket over his shoulders. “Your trailer is 5 minutes from mine so I’ll see you in 10, if the gate is open. Oh, and Eddie?”
“What, Harrington?” Eddie’s annoyed voice makes Steve grin and he can’t help but mess with him. He’s probably going to get punched for this, but he can’t resist.
“Next time, listen to me when I say ‘don’t be a hero,’ okay?”
“Piss off, Harrington.” Steve laughs and bounds down the stairs. He’s out the door and heading to the trailer park within seconds. He’s breaking every law to get there, but dammit. He’s not going to leave Eddie again. He can’t. Eddie made him feel something he hasn’t felt in a long time. He made him feel… needed? wanted? desired? Steve doesn’t know specifically. Eddie just made him feel better.
The trailer is taped off, but Steve ducks under the tape and let’s himself inside. Much to his surprise, the gate is there. Albeit smaller than before, but he can fit. He’ll make himself fit, even if he has to break his arm. He grabs the makeshift rope that’s still dangling from the gate and mumbles to no one but himself, “I’m coming, Eddie.”
When he falls to the floor, he has to lay there a second to catch the breath the drop knocked out of him. He’s getting too old for this shit. When he gets Eddie out of here, he’s leaving Hawkins and Eddie is coming with him because this town doesn’t deserve him. And that’s final. He finally pushes himself to his feet and bolts out the door. He grabs the extra bike and petals like he’s racing a marathon and he’s prepared to win.
The watch on his wrist shows that he made it to his house in just under 5 minutes and he grins. Eddie is alive and mostly okay. They just have to get the hell out of here before something realizes they’re back. He ditches the bike in the street and sprints into his house. He climbs the stairs and pushes open his bedroom door. It’s a culture shock seeing his old decorations from high school, but what’s more shocking is seeing Eddie Munson laying on his bed.
“Eddie?” Steve whispers and Eddie nearly jumps out of the bed. Steve puts his hands up in surrender and Eddie drops the spear he had at Steve’s throat. “You keep holding sharp things to my throat like that and I’m going to think you’re into kinky stuff.”
“So what if I am, Harrington?” Eddie replies as he gets to his feet. “But nows not the time. Let’s get the hell out of here. And when we get topside, I’m leaving Hawkins. Fuck graduating. This place is crazy and I want nothing more to do with it.”
“You and me both. I’ve had my fill for the rest of my life. See ya, Hawkins. Hello, sunny shores of California,” Steve tells him as they head back outside and pick up the bikes. “Hey, do you trust me?”
Eddie looks at him like he has four heads and three eyes before replying with a snarky, “you fucking left me to die here in this dusty ass place, Harrington. You answer that question.”
“I was just going to say, you can ride on the handle bars so you don’t have to pedal anymore, asshole. I am sorry I left you, but hey, at least I came back,” Steve says with a hopeful smile and Eddie rolls his eyes. Steve’s smile falls, but Eddie hoists himself up on the handlebars anyway.
“Don’t fucking wreck us, Harrington. I swear to god, I fought so hard to get here so if you drop me, I will kill you and leave your body here like you tried to leave mine.” Eddie says as Steve starts toward the trailer park. Steve rolls his eyes and pedals on. “And by the way, why are you still wearing my vest? Did you miss me that much, Harrington?”
Steve glances down and realizes that the jacket he thought he slipped on was actually Eddie’s vest. Well, this is embarrassing. He can’t lie his way out of this one so he might as well tell him.
“Yes. You fucking threw me into a gay awakening and then died, but didn’t actually die, so forgive me if I was mourning the loss of someone that made me feel like they actually wanted me around.”
Eddie is blessedly quiet when the trailer park comes into view and Steve blows out a breath of relief. In and out in no time. Easy-peasy. Just as they hop off the bike, that’s when Steve hears it. The beating of several wings and screeching.
“Go, go, go, go!! Get inside and get out of here! Now! Go, Eddie!” Steve screams at him and Steve is relieved when Eddie doesn’t hesitate to run. Steve is hot on his heels when they fling themselves into the trailer. Steve slams his back against the door and nods toward the rope. “Go, I’ll be right behind you. I promise.”
Eddie nods and shimmies up the rope and Steve doesn’t move away from the door until he hears Eddie’s grunt echoing down the hole. Steve takes a steadying breath before jumping as far up the rope as he can and flinging himself through the hole. He slams into something soft with a soft grunt and he lays there for a second before he’s shoved to the side.
“Get off me, Harrington. You weigh a ton and I’m in pain.” Steve laughs and stares up at the hole in the ceiling. It’s slowly getting smaller and Steve guesses it’ll only take half an hour before it’s gone completely. A thought from a few days ago hits him and he needs to know.
“Hey, Eddie,” Steve says quietly without taking his eyes off the hole. Eddie’s answering hum is all he gets so he continues, “would you’ve kissed me in the RV if Robin wasn’t there?”
There’s a brief pause then a quieter, “yeah.”
Steve thinks for a moment before asking, “can I kiss you now?”
This answer is even quieter than the first and Steve almost misses it, “yeah.”
So, Steve rolls onto his side and leans over Eddie. He props himself on his elbow and brushes a lock of Eddie’s hair out of his face. Those big brown eyes are wide and full of something that looks similar to fear, but could also be excitement. Steve brushes his thumb across Eddie’s bottom lip and whispers, “I am seriously so sorry we left you. I’m not going to leave you again. I promise.”
“You better not. I’ll never forgive you, Harrington. Now, are you going to kiss me or not?” Eddie says with a smile and Steve laughs. He dips his head down and gently presses their lips together. It’s not a long kiss, but Steve already knows that he doesn’t want to kiss anyone else for the rest of his life. “Me either, Harrington.”
“I did not say that out loud…” Steve murmurs incredulously.
“You did,” Eddie responds with a smirk and Steve drops his head to Eddie’s chest. His face is as red as a tomato, he just knows it. He groans, but looks up when Eddie wraps a hand around his back. “It’s okay. I won’t tell anyone that Steve Harrington is actually a huge sap.”
“Let’s get you back to my place and get you cleaned up. You can stay there until we get your name cleared. My parents are never home anyway,” Steve tells him as he stands up. He holds out a hand for Eddie to take and smiles when Eddie laughs and takes his hand.
“I also won’t tell anyone that the King of Hawkins High loves to change the subject when he’s being complimented.”
“I hate you,” Steve mutters, but there’s no heat behind it. He pulls Eddie to his feet and doesn’t let go of his hand.
“You don’t,” Eddie says as he crowds Steve’s space and hovers their lips a breath apart.
“No, I don’t,” Steve whispers as he closes the gap.

My Stranger things 4 controversial opinion...
Eddie and Steve have the potential to be what harringrove could never have (because Eddie is essentially what a lot of people wanted/imagined Billy to be)

this gif is currently ruining my life. the caress that says “it’s me”, the double take that says “it’s really you”, the soft smile that says “i see you”, the bright smile that comes from being seen by someone you love, the lingering fingers that want so badly to stay where they are, and the unspoken conversation of “i’ve missed you and i love you”
