the unsolved swiftie mystery that will drive me to insanity is when this photo of Taylor in the studio came out before Midnights was released and there was a TINY Top Gun poster in the background.

dead poets society fandom. we know many of the poets were rich/privileged, meaning that they likely grew up in households with hired help, to include cooks, which means they probably don't know much about preparing food or cooking. my proposal: one of them definitely cuts cucumbers like Kendall Jenner. but which one is it.
Neil's family wasn't rich enough for this. Todd's too anxious. my money's on Knox. lmk.

don't know if this counts as moving from worldbuilding to writing, but something that always helps my productivity is casting my characters - like, with actual actors. having concrete images of the horde of problem children inside my brain makes envisioning their plot so much easier.

bless you, today on tumblr. and happy day to all my fellow poets! we are something extraordinary.
Tuesday March 21.
World Poetry Day.
Today is a celebration—but perhaps, like all celebrations, just what we are commemorating is something that we must treasure each and every day. Poetry, some might say, is just that: the treasure that artists mine from the sham and drudgery of day-to-day life. For the poet, their art is found not by searching for the exotic, mysterious, glamourous, or seductive, but by what they find before them. What is mundane and routine is as much material to be mined as life's intensities or spectacles. For the poet, the world really is their oyster. And for the rest of us, the work they produce is that very pearl. And every shade of experience, whether joy, grief, banality, intrigue, and beauty, are encapsulated in words, spaces, silence, images, and form. Whether by skill, or by chance, no one really knows, but perhaps the mess and the mystery are one and the same as its profundity. With that in mind, let's celebrate a good thing. And a good thing that is ours each and every day. It's #world poetry day.
With that in mind, we invite you to mark the day here on Tumblr. After all, there is simply no better community of poets and artists who make up this creative sphere, and the evergreen world of all things poetry is, well, your world.
And when all is said and done, you better get writing x

dead poets fans and dark/light academia appreciators: the movie "Another Country" is currently free on YouTube! If you like the angst of oppressive boarding schools, canon gay plot lines, or young Colin Firth with some very fluffy hair and devout communism, this movie's for you!
ngl, the Colin Firth part was 95% of the reason I originally watched this movie. but in all seriousness, it's a really excellent exploration of British class and education in the 1930s - and the visual aesthetics are quite stunning, too.
Here it is. You're welcome! Enjoy.

so, the album's called "Midnights."  the two songs we know so far are "Mastermind" and "Vigilante Shit."  I'm beginning to suspect that TS10 chronicles Taylor's transformation into Batman.

a list of all the things i have done as "part of my writing process."
ran down the hall in my silk robe, just to remind myself of how it billows behind me
copiously reapplied lip gloss
cleaned out my email
rewatched this video for the 19858th time (don't ask me why, I'm just obsessed with it)
sat alone in my room, staring at my computer, an incomplete poem staring back at me
sat in the kitchen while my parents make dinner, staring at my computer, an incomplete poem staring back at me
drawn instead of writing
added items to my urban outfitters shopping bag knowing I'll never buy them and eventually closed the tab in a hurried browser cleanse
grown disgusted with myself over how many tabs I have open on my computer and initiated aforementioned hurried browser cleanse
spent wayyy too much time on thesaurus.com (I wanted to be cheeky and add a link to synonyms for "overthink" or "rabbit hole," but interestingly enough, there are none...)
listened to Christmas music at 4 am (credit to creator of playlist! I love it very much)
made a smoothie
stalked old friends on insta and hurt my own feelings comparing myself to them
revisited evermore because it is my ultimate comfort album
eaten pretzels dipped in almond butter and topped with dark chocolate chips
browsed real estate websites for properties in the Hamptons, pretending I could actually afford such a thing and wondering if 14 bedrooms is too showy but 8 seems cutting it close
sang out loud and thought I sounded really bad
sang out loud and thought I sounded really good
read
gone grocery shopping
written 80 pages of manuscript in 2 days and 2 hours
written 1 page of poetry in 9 months, 5 days, and 2 minutes
written a fraction of a poem 2 years ago and left it unfinished
written this list, because writing SOMETHING is better than writing nothing
Toni Morrison "disavows" the idea of writer's block (as I learned in this superb article). To paraphrase, she believes that thinking about your work and processing your ideas in your head while doing other things counts as writing - and I agree! I think about all the times I've felt stuck and what I did to fill that time. I still ended up writing in the end, even if it wasn't exactly in the way I imagined. Obviously, the activities I thought to be fluffy time wasters did something for me.
In short, give yourself permission to ruminate. Everything we experience influences our art. Have faith that what your brain and your heart tell you to do in the moment you want to be writing, but can't seem to get the words down, will ultimately benefit your work in the end.
I've decided to be more active and more free-spirited on Tumblr: to treat my page like the thoughtful yet conversational blog it's meant to be. This seemed like a good note to start on.

Katie
