I’ve recently been obsessed with Kuni Fukai (again) and discovered he had a stint as a mangaka before developing the fashion/Klimt influenced illustration style he’d be known for later in the 70’s. The work, Crazy Big City, is from around 1958, but just look at the line work in that top image. There’s a modern touch to this work that’s very exciting. Sadly there have been no reprints. All the copies I’ve found online have sold for 12-48k yen.
Some of my shots on Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal, done at studio la cachette Paris last year.
As usual posting gifs on twitter is sooooo fuuuun, I really love having to pixelate my work to post it… .
Additional scans from the booklet to Wachenröder, a 1998 tactical RPG for the Sega Saturn that was developed by Westone Bit Entertainment. This includes various models/figures made by sculptor and character designer Takeyuki Takeya.
One by one we are all becoming shades. Better pass boldly into that other world, in the full glory of some passion, than fade and wither dismally with age.
Think of all those who ever were, back to the start of time. And me, transient as they, flickering out as well into their grey world. Like everything around me, this solid world itself, which they reared and lived in, is dwindling and dissolving. Snow is falling. Falling in that lonely churchyard where Michael Furey lays buried. Falling faintly through the universe, and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead.
