The Invisible Man, Ch. 14 - At Port Stowe

There is a clergyman and a medical gent witnesses—saw ’im all right and proper—or leastways didn’t see ’im. He was staying, it says, at the ‘Coach an’ Horses,’ and no one don’t seem to have been aware of his misfortune, it says, aware of his misfortune, until in an Altercation in the inn, it says, his bandages on his head was torn off. It was then ob-served that his head was invisible. Attempts were At Once made to secure him, but casting off his garments, it says, he succeeded in escaping, but not until after a desperate struggle, in which he had inflicted serious injuries, it says, on our worthy and able constable, Mr. J. A. Jaffers.

News travels fast, because unless my timeline is wrong, the first incident of Griffin's unveiling happened the morning this scene takes place, meaning that already the story has been contorted and misconstrued, though not surprising considering the witnesses are apparently Mr. Cuss and Mr. Bunting

Instead of Griffin himself being the one to take off his bandages, now the story is they were torn off by others. And rather than everybody immediately running away leaving Griffin alone to eat, the story goes that they tried to "secure him" at once.

This should also be considered with the sort of framing of the story as an after-the-fact report, so we can assume the story we are reading is a more accurate, or at least more informed, version of the one in this paper, which would make sense if it was written after more time has passed.

All in all, it's fun to think about.

The Invisible Man, Ch. 13 - Mr. Marvel Discusses His Resignation

Not a lot to take from this chapter other than a funny title. You do sort of become a lot more sympathetic to Marvel's situation what with all the physical harm Griffin's evidently done to him and will threaten to do to him again.

The last line from Griffin about constantly keeping his hand on Marvel's shoulder, a shoulder he heavily bruised, is kind of scary. An invisible presence that is literally always there watching you and making sure you don't mess up. I can see why Marvel is almost in tears.
