Oh my god guys, you won't believe what I managed to find
Basically, before the Cartoon Network studios building in Burbank was shut down and everyone got moved to Warner Bros, there was a historical stairwell where hundreds of employees, artists, and guests doodled on the walls over the years. Unfortunately the building was sold off last year all the graffiti had to be painted over, thus erasing a wonderful part of animation history.
However, before that happened, a few people were able to take a 3D scan and 360 photos of the entire thing and posted it online!
Tumblr media
And after some scouring, I was able to find it!

My tiny Smudgy drawing I made when I visited Cartoon Network as a teenager in the mid 2010's managed to survive until the very end!
I wasn't able to take pictures at the time and I have no idea if my parents still have the photos, so I thought I'd never see my drawing ever again.
I won't lie, I cried when I saw it on the website. I remember loving the time when I got to take a tour of the studio and dreaming of working at CN one day. This drawing is a bit silly and cringe, it was back when my persona character had Pikachu ears and a yellow hoodie, but it still meant a lot to me.
Anywho, I'm gonna go finish ugly crying now

Yeah I know, this is nearly a month late
I'm gonna be real, I didn't post much art in 2023 despite the fact that I was taking art classes in my final semesters of college Heck, I was going to leave April and May blank since I didn't post anything for those two months but I decided to include a couple panels from my storyboarding class since I still technically drew something in that time (which frankly I need to post those damn videos at some point)
July on the other hand... yeah I was straight up burnt out for that month
I'm a bit disheartened that I didn't really do that much last year and I'm a bit worried for my future when it comes to posting art. I'm done with college and that means I need to look for work now. Will this mean I'm going to have more art to post as I prepare my portfolio or will I ultimately have less time to draw stuff that I can actually post that isn't under an NDA for whatever company I work for?  Whatever the case, I think ultimately I just want to draw more and figure out how to get my brain to focus for long enough so I can actually draw in the first place

This was my final assignment for character design class, the prompt being to create characters to represent good dreams and bad dreams and to base them on the concept of the Sandman
I decided to go for more of a whimsical dream world type vibe. Inspirations include: Klonoa, Nights into Dreams, Balan Wonderworld, Cavern of Dreams, The Collector from Owl House, Sun and Moon from FNAF Security Breach, and maybe a little bit of the Kirby universe.
Sandman, who often goes by the nickname of Sandy, is a newly appointed guardian of dreams. Their primary task is to showcase the wonders of dreamland and ward off the pesky Nightmare Hound. They're called the Sandman they're actually genderless, the 'man' part mostly just meaning person much like 'human'
The Nightmare Hound is a predatory being that searches for and feeds upon people's nightmares. Though he induces nightmares to those he hunts down, he's not exactly evil per say. "Is it really evil for a hunter to obey their instincts and need to live? I am a wolf, they are my prey, and a wolf's gotta eat." Most of the time they take a more amorphous or wolf-like form, but they can shapeshift into other forms if needed such as a humanoid form. He could very easily take down Sandy and put them in their place whenever they come by to scold Nightmare and shoo him away, but he sees Sandy as a minor annoyance and would rather go hunt elsewhere
I meant to post this in December but the holidays kind of drained me

Well looky here, ya girl is a certified artist now
My college career survived a crap part time job, a pandemic, and lasted WAY longer than it should have, but I finally did it! (And yeaaaaaaah, I got this via community college and not a fancy university, but a degree is a degree and I'm happy)
Also sorry for not posting for most of December and half of January, I got caught up in end of year/new craziness and burnout ;w;

Hey tumblr people, a friend of mine needs some serious help
This is a childhood friend of mine who means a lot to me. She lost her dad recently and she's having trouble with the funeral bill.
Our circle of friends doesn't have that much money so I'm hoping that by spreading the word we can help her just a little bit more
just a dollar or a reblog would be greatly appreciated

A simple assignment where we had to play around with one of the characters we drew for class to make sure their design can move and emote in a way that's compatible for animation
I chose Eddie Hyde because he's such a dynamic and energetic character who's really fun to draw. There isn't a single thought going on in that little head of his
This technique is often used by character designers and concept artists to make sure a character fully works before making a finalized and concrete turnaround sheet to hand over to the storyboard artists and animators. Test drawings like this can also show the character's personality
I also included my initially design test sketches from when I was figuring out what these characters should look like. At first Eddie Hyde was going to be more like a lumbering big cat such as a puma or tiger, but decided to go with more of a scruffy street cat look in the end to make him look more eye-catching and like a lovable dumbass.

Hey guys look it's Bert Sampsin
This was an assignment from Character Design Class where we had to take a crack at doing a turnaround sheet of Bart Simpson by only using the 3/4 view drawing from the official turnaround sheet
And let me tell you about the official character sheet we referenced:
Tumblr media
it's kinda weird and inconsistent and definitely from the early days of the series (sort of the reason as to why we were given this assignment, to "correct" this sheet)
Because Bart is such a weird shape, I went so far as to draw out a messy proportion analysis of me trying to draw him by eye with zero tracing
Tumblr media
By doing this I could get a feel for what my drawing habits and biases are. Apparently I have a tendency to draw things thinner than what they're supposed to be 🤔
Also let me tell you, I've done a couple turnaround sheets before of my own characters but it was a BITCH trying to get the front view to look right.

Dear god tumblr doesn't like horizontal posts uuuuuuuuh click the image for better quality o~o"
For this assignment we had to use Carl Jung's 12 Character Archetypes and design a character based on one of the four quadrants: Freedom, Social, Order, and Ego
I decided to use some of my preexisting characters to see if I could assign an archetype to each one (and I wanted an excuse to finally draw a proper lineup of these four in color)
Jella: Everyman Vex: Ruler Ilene: Creator Odyssey: Rebel
I will say it was pretty difficult trying to give each one a pose to make their assigned archetype semi-clear as you could easily mistake Jella for the Jester or Vex as the Rebel based on clothing alone. On top of that, the last three characters could all easily fit under the Rebel archetype due to their personalities and the fact that they've committed some kind of crime or felony. Ultimately I went with the logic that everyone fits into a different archetype depending on the group they're in since real people aren't defined as one single category. For example, Odyssey here is the Rebel but on her own she could be the Explorer and she can also switch to being the Jester when she's being more casual and nonchalant.

In a dystopic corporate city inhabited by anthropomorphic animals, head biochemist of DOCGA GOV Dr. Henry Jekyll has managed to rise the ranks and thrive as a cat in a dog's world. But despite his dedication to DOCGA, his obedience to dog-kind is begrudging and shaky. The heads of DOCGA take note of this and give Jekyll a thinly disguised threat for his job if his behavior doesn't improve; a tactic of DOCGA to ensure Jekyll will stay under their thumb. Out of fear and desperation to not lose everything he's worked for, Jekyll takes the experimental obedience serum he had been working on and combines it with what he thought was a chemical that would extend the serum's effect. In reality, he accidentally grabbed a volatile mutagen chemical in his panic, causing him to transform into a wild and chaotic version of himself at night and bringing out his inner desires in the worst way possible. This chaotic half of Jekyll calls himself Eddie Hyde, and he's here to rebel and be free from the very thing Jekyll centered his life around.
This is actually part two of this assignment
Here, we had to take the baseline concept of Jekyll and Hyde and put our own spin on it. The main priority being to make sure that both designs hinted that it's the same person but transformed in some way. What I ultimately went for was the idea of "what if Hyde wasn't really the bad guy and it's just his society that calls him bad?" And so, I went for a version where you'd root for Hyde and hope that Jekyll will stop suppressing his real self.
Personally I love how Eddie Hyde turned out and the contrast he has with Jekyll. He's just a lovable dumbass with hardly a thought in that orange little head of his. I also went out of my way to add so much god damn symbolism to this image, partially so I could sneak in a couple side views and a clear view of the DOCGA logo.
Working title for this story idea: HYDE

For this class assignment we had to draw designs for Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde based on their book descriptions
Apparently modern media has led people to usually think of Hyde as this giant monstrous brute in a black cloak even though in the book he's described as a crude, chaotic, and primitive little guy. Meanwhile Jekyll is a tall, well-off, charismatic, middle aged man; essentially the ideal image for 18th century men.
It was pretty fun designing Hyde as this crazed short guy that I decided to depict as almost ape-like as well as experimenting with more shape-based designs that are pretty far out of my comfort zone when it comes to my usual style

I've had quite a few drawings from class stockpiled but I keep forgetting to post them lol
This was pretty much a practice assignment for breaking down people and poses into basic geometry or wire meshes. I'm already very familiar with construction drawing as I use them all the time when sketching out my characters but it's still good to practice with references like this.
