Millennials: Young Generation Shaping Our Status Quo

Life begins at forty. In this age, people find their happiness and contentment. Nowadays, age doesn’t matter. Young people would get happiness from their gadgets, but the contentment is not. Virtual world does exist. It is no longer questionable at all, it is on our stars to be involved with electronics. Everybody finds their gadgets as their besties. Books, social life, news, pop culture, and you name they are all in this rectangular gadget named smartphone. Before the arrival of cellular phones,  computers are the first medium to get information from online. As years bygone, geniuses improved and reduced the sizes of the computers to small one - an easy to handle with, this is the birth of smartphones. Year 2000, there are only three million people used or could access the internet in the United States. That year the internet was erratic. Fortunately, after four years of enhancing and improving the accessibility in online world done by intrigued people a number of people who could browse online become massive. The arrival of social media like Facebook and Friendster were new to the netizens, citizen in online world, in 2004. Even the accessibility to information is no longer a hassle with the Google, people would research endlessly whatsoever topic they wanted to know. The real world is now available in the virtual world. This internet, WiFi and free data, is more accessible by smartphones either people using Google's android or Apple’s ios. Everything is hassle-free. Everybody is happy especially the Millennials. Who are millenials by the way? How their deep feelings be the tool in changing the world? When will the portrait can give impact to change? Millennials or Generation Y is the third cohort right after the GenX of 20th and 21st century. People who were born after 1981 are the  GenYs. To count from that year to present, people age below or 35 years old are The Team Millennials. They have the social media savvy. Due to maturity, few of them choose to be competent in business world  and  the rest fall prey for making internet surfing as their recreation. The humugot and selfienatics are striving just to impress their virtual friends. Even Baby Boomers and GenX (first 2 cohorts) try to blend with this prevalent craze of socializing. Of course, they are also happy because before it was so hard to communicate in telegram and now with these social media they can communicate  their old friends. Today, Friendster was like a bubble faded quickly, but Facebook remains the same - a themed-blue website, yet is the prime medium in socializing. The births of Twitter, Instagram and just recently Snapchat give an impact to young ones. Here is the Snapchat where you can update your activities every seconds by pictures and endless facial add-ons to make users feel blessed with their floral crown. Who wants to be an instant photographer? You are niche to Instagram! Where no doubts about your photography skills plus updating your daily activities: Just your photo and expression. Want to scream out your slumbering angry like you do not? Feel free to tweet it with Twitter, where you can express yourself in a limited given space and can address your message to your most favorite television personalities. Worthy right? The facebook is the summation of these three social media. Where you can make it as your daily diary. Update your recent hugot in life and can brag your travel journey or the party last attended and even received gifts by filtered selfie. It is so nice, isn’t it? That is why Team Millennials  find these social media a world of happiness and best pastime or recreation. With sudden changes in our environment and status quo, teen-agers expressed their hinanaing with feelings. The post they wrought so hard is for gaining of likes, hearts and emojis. They update their activities every minute, little argument with their parents and hackneyed selfies endlessly. The basis for famous for them is the number of likes. But in real world this famous does nothing, but not all. Their hugots are in now. Who wants bolts for your hardships? Anybody? Team Millennials feel more liberated and more concern with their loosen feelings that need to be bolted. Our country is democratic. Notwithstanding with, Team Millennials can do what they wanted to do. This is the lifestyle of modern youth now. The emergence of Millennial terms, Galawang Breezy, Bitches, LGBT Community, Noobs, Pabebes, Otakus, Party Girls and Boys, earworm songs, fleek eyebrows, dark lipsticks, strange make up style, dances, viral sensations, short shorts, and over showing skin  and etc. is undeniably the results of social media. These upheavals of the young ones become known and really on trend. Everybody is thirst to try out what can young ones can do. That is why, you are in if you are updating your recent activities virtually and do what you see on it. Team Millennials really change the world drastically. The bad is the lewd pictures can be no longer restricted to young even the lewd short films. One of  the repercussions of these is the early teenage pregnancy where Philippines ranks one in Asia-region and the timely HIV transmission where there are almost 25, 000 victims between in the age of 15 to 24 according to 2015 survey. Pornography, yes, is easy to access now. Even a child could watch it over on their touch screen gadgets surreptitiously. Not only pictures can be dangerous also the posts. Team Millennials has power to be heard, but easy to influence. Such as, the burial issue of former President Ferdinand  Marcos. Moreover, the number of victims of bullies is at its peak and the new case,  the cybercrimes. Not only drug can make addicts also the computer. The publicity lives of everybody, anyone can stalk a certain person and can use the gathered data. These data will be used as form of harassing. Everything in online you do not know if it is facts or dishonesty. Various agencies try to reduce the numbers of victims of these repercussions, such as sex education,  free condoms, vigiling the cases for harassment and frauds, but our status quo is destined to be more active in virtuality and everybody is taking heed only for pointless posts they think popular. No one can make these craze to back to traditional lifestyle where people tried so hard and feel safe. The social media is a place for criminals, addicts and harassment. The integrity, personal space or privacy and real friends are no longer found on online world. Can we make these to better one? Everybody starts this recreation with a hope that their feelings will be uplifted. Violent and abuse usage of this turn many lives affected and have changed extremely. It is not too late to reduce the seams of modern world caused by obsession of Millennials, we can do something better: less is more. 1-21-17

Sad Truths To Our Status Quo

Everybody knows Jose Rizal’s quote about youth whether we belong to the cohort of Baby Boomers (born between 1943 and 1960), Gen X or Generation X (born between 1961 and 1981), and Millennials: we (born after 1982). Millennials (also known as Gen Y, Generation Y, Generation Me, Selfie Generation, Net Generation. Generation Next and Global Generation)  are the youth of our time and the prime users of the happiness brought by modern technology.This quote, “The youth is the hope of our future.”, is considered as a floating gem that sparks whenever generation we may belong. Filipinos in abroad use this quote to remind that everywhere they go, they and their children are crucial to the Philippine economic stability. But for those who are in our country, what can we do?  What can millennials contribute to our country’s future? We, the youth or millennials,  are living with saving-work devices which were products from Baby Boomers and Gen X such as smartphones. We cannot live without the Wi-Fi technology or free data.  We are very dramatic when it comes to our posts on our social media. There are hugot on it.  We are creative inventing new words or terms that is  why there are called now Millennials Terms. We are so good making hashtags. We are liberated, right? We are “ Wild, Young, And Free” in short. But these should not be permanent and irrevocable. We can do purposeful than these. It cannot be concluded that active online is bad what it should be meant is use the internet as a medium to make a good change. We should not be more on Hokage or Galawang Breezy. We should not be saturated with PBB influence like kalandian. What we can do is to use the internet as the area of good information and international understanding. There is no good when our recreation is used in wrong way. It is good to have recreation online, but being too saturated in social media is no good. Less is more: Less attention for being active online, more happiness it brings to us, but that is not the case. Maybe, more is more: The more you are active the more happy you feel.  No one can deny that posting online for what they felt, received and captured is not informing anymore. It is just bragging. There is a very prevalent quotation that may your life as perfect as your posts on your social media accounts. Yes, it turns to be that we are faking our posts for the sake for our virtual friends. The truth bites. What can we get from doing this? The world doesn’t need Otakus to change its disadvantages to purposeful one. The world doesn’t want endless tweets and hackneyed posts from us. It is now an excessive happiness that then  Baby Boomer and Gen X thought it was very helpful to us now. Aside from being saturated online. We forget our reality. We live virtually. We are gaining confidence out from these social media. There are many nga-nga in real life. There are noob in terms of playing online. There are af students online. There are countless adjectives that can be attached to our names. These stereotypes are hard to get rid of. It is our current situation now. We believe only that we must live life to the fullest. Moreover, not only our personality turn into unpleasant, but also our health. We must always remind how Baby Boomers and Gen X put effort on making the present day as easy. If we could learn to put some notion on our mind to make a change and think for sometime for our future may be our dear Generation Z will be thankful as we are thankful to the first generations we followed. Hopefully, they do not do the same: not thinking for the next generation.

The Strife of Julie

“Gawas dira buh!” I kept on knocking at the C.R. door. “Daari lang ko Vic, kay lain akong tiyan.”, she replied with curls in her voice. “Magsugod na ang Flag raising ceremony!” I was still pursuing her to get outside. “Nen!”, she shouted. “Okay, Julie basta pag amping dira.”, I advised her before living to attend the morning ceremony. It was happened four years ago, yet I would never forget the moment she said “Nen!”. There were many emotions attached to my name when she shouted it.             Last September 22 my high school classmate, Wheng, told me that Julie has been laid in comatose state for 6 months, my throat contracted, there were goose bumps on my skin and I was down-cast. Bemie, my high school friend, walked towards us and suggested that we must attend Julie`s 20th birthday. At night I contacted my high school chum, Jane, about the situation of Julie. In the morning, Jane replied and proposed that that day we must visit Julie. In the house of Julie, I could see her college graduation, her siblings  and parents picture hung against the wall. It was four years ago the last time I visited her. At the table there was a pale lass with short hair and spectacle. She looked us and hugged so badly. It was her emotions surpassed. She kissed us and kept on snapping our heads and arms. And said, “Miss you so much, Nen! Ngano wala man ka nagparamdam? Kaw pod Jane. Lain kaayo mo!”, she started to cry, “Kabalo mo I attempted to suicide for three times before ko na coma.” “ Ngano ka na coma?” I asked. “Nadisgrasya ko sa motor og radiation sa cellphone”, she stood before us, “And na depressed ko kay naad ko naa mo parmente and gibulagan ko sa akong buang na uyab.” I started to cry. I felt guilty and said: “Ambi nimo ikaw ra na depressed ako sad! May gani wa na apektuhan akong pag skwela.” We cried emotionally. “Nen and Jane sulod ta sa akong kwarto.” She directed. Since we were missing each other we got inside. On her bedroom wall, there were written phrases. I read it. I started to cry again. “Daari ko gidoul sa Ginoo.” She pointed out the bed. She persisted, “Ana ang Ginoo na ‘kung mabuhi ka Julie dayon pag alagad nako’.” We cried again. “Mag vigil unta mo nako ron.” She said. I contorted my face.To make ourselves away from being emotional she requested me to take video while she is dancing and impersonating. After the day ended, she said: “It is better to sell a fish than being a selfish!” And once more hugged each other.       .   But before I leave I got inside in his bedroom and wrote on the wall: “To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the one world - Bill Wilson… Be happy always... Always inspired by you, Nenrald.”

Illuminated Moment

The sea was dark. I was very tired from my birthday celebration, it was my maladies isolated me from my classmates who I invited in the nearest place that I never went, Boulevard. I am the stereotypical feminized-lad who has opened mouth, to satisfy others` thought happiness. I cannot eradicate this kind of attribution, I have conventionally acquired it since the day I knew who I am. I never thought it was my milk-and-water. I was before the newly met lad, two lass chums and her boyfriend. In my mind the only thing I could do was to capture the moment. I raised my right hand clicked against the lightest part in the place. I have those dim pictures and what made the moment unforgettable? The illuminating effects gave to myself. I never imagined I can remember the bokeh effects of the rural areas that we saw, the sounds we have made, and the finger-foods we shared. Everything is crystal clear. “In my life people come and go, this kind of feeling is statical,” I continued, “I am afraid that someday you`ll leave me.” There faces contorted, showed disagreement, I could feel that they let me let those words gushed from my mouth. “Kring, kring!” A cellphone has rung, it came from the newly met lad I have invited, we were silent that moment only his soft toned voice filled the serenity of the 11pm night. Back from my mind I was thinking that these people are strangers I never knew their true attitudes but I let mine be known, it was unfair in part, but I could not snap my fingers to stop from being negative. We felt the moment, my day and being together for the last time. Now I could not afford to pay lip service to gather who were there. They have changed. Only illuminating moment can bond me to the other people. That memory will never fade, it is like a big gallery in my mind.

It’s been a couple of years flipped, when my instructor corrected me for using “xerox” instead of “photocopy” in replicating his syllabus. Months ago, I experienced the same situation. Undoubtedly, I am still using this word even this time. With an aid of seach engine, Google.com, I can brag that this word must be used now. Accordingly, Xerox Corporation made xerographic copier to serve humanity, while they were attaining their balanced services, customers called their machine as Xerox, making it as their monicker. Until one day, it was not just their brand name, but also used as a verb to render their services. Happily, “Now plenty of people ‘xerox’ their documents in HP and Canon machines”, a statement from Blogger Stephen Baker. Also Google.com founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, liked to use their monicker “google” as an action word in seeking answers with the use of their website. En.oslin.org makes xerox as an infinitive verb (to xerox), 3rd personal singular (xeroxes), past tense, past participle and present participle (xeroxed). BusinessweekArchives.org adds, “Still brand names that become verbs don’t always pay off in the market.” To make my research proven I opened Merriam Webster App, fortunately, the word xerox means to copy (something, such as a document) by using a special machine called xerographic copier, while the initial capitalized letter X is used for a machine that makes paper copies of printed pages, pictures and etc.. To be sure for the usage of xerox than photocopy, I clicked letters p-h-o-t-o-c-o-p-y in Merriam Webster search tab, it says that it is a noun and a paper copy of a document, picture, etc., that is made with a special machine called a copier or photocopier and a copy of usually printed material made with a process in which an image is formed by the action of light usually on an electrically charged surface. It has connoted as an intransitive and a transitive verb - to make a photocopy. Now, would you like to photocopy either the printed words from the paper or photos from Facebook.com on photopapers?

Baby Boomers Meet the Chartered Engineers for the First Time

“Reunion of adult and young civil engineers! ” That’s how Eng'r. Fredelito “Freddy” Rivera, PICE - Zamboanga Del Sur Chapter President, decoded the PICE Day and Sports Fellowship ‘15 gist happened last November 29, 2015 at Liga City Building, Pagadian City. Advocate Ms. Genevieve Mendoza wrote the come - back of PICE - SMC Pagadian City Chapter or Junior PICE (JPICE) last semester issue. Its members were proud hoisting their pride around the city with a pleasant waves to the public complemented the celebration primary aim, “ZDS PICEans: Come, Join and Enjoy Meeting Fellow Civil Engineers,” along with the senior members. In the celebration area, Eng'r. Rivera recognized the 105 chartered or licensed civil engineers and 45 civil engineering students from our school. [It was observed the members are almost the product of “Makers of Today’s Leaders in Western Mindanao”, SMC - our dear school]. As the celebration went on, the Amnesty Program was opened. Eng'r. Charito Arnado asked about the said program and argued around their circle between Eng'r. Yorong, Eng'r. Rivera, and Eng'r. Manghay. Giving a handsome certificates to the members that are new passers of the licensure examination for civil engineers would alter the tension between the engineers. In the second part of the celebration held at Pagadian City Gymnasium - the Sports Fest would take placed and was participated by civil engineers. It resulted to more gay celebration after all. Although, the civil engineering students were little ashamed at the first - time - meet - up to the chartered engineers, “the transcendence in the feeling was never fading", Mr. Arturo Rasonable, one of the baby boomers participated the celebration, was his definition to the situation and was happy to see them for the first time.

Nurturing Your Architectonic Ability

I was in the eng'g library that afternoon and a friend of mine is sitting facing me. A sleek of sunset added glow to his eyes when he started to talk to confer something - Being Jack Of all Traits aka well-rounded personality. An inflection, rising, falling and pauses to his sentence made it so bogus buster. He opened about his liking in music, art and eng'g. He did some giggling feedback on my smile when I study his’ so true about being openness in the other side of him. My friend is really a king of his own he did not even skeptikal in sharing that attempt to acquire a new realm in his joy. There’s no need an experts in this term. Experience nurtures postulate. As I observed each of us is fond of saying that art is for architects, designers, artists and even for some time found in nature. Is it good that they are the owner of that you did on your alternating fingers when referring to beauty? How about you? Waiting for serendipities? I know you have a list of your favorite to do or hobbies. Are these things going to be okay when doing it simultaneously or even in a series, my answer is yes you can be a business ad student while you are a organization leader and a church choir. I am very irritated when the phrase “master of none” is going to be added to the purpose of my friend. That’s when my friend saw me he would say that he is no longer in conflict about his to do goal in his mundane life after I gave him some “hugot” from my experiences and told about that. I know it is hard to know all your wants but it is satisfying you as a human. I am persuading you guys to start to flower because like a messy room when you did not start to pick a scrap on the floor you are never going to the next intention to really clean the room. So now, unleash your dreams, likings, and aspirations. Like what I do now - leader, writer, fashion buff, great read, engineering student and especially change agent and moguls. Like what my favorite author said always: “Be thyself”. If someone says “Ikaw na!” respond him “Ikaw napod ang bitter!”. Insecurities and fears are precluded and pulled like a grasses when you are not caring what people say about you. And for I know that is why your baby self is not growing or worst it is deteriorated. Remember, be perceptive, confident in the right way and believe Him for his art we are here to devour it unknowingly or knowingly. Instead of being a jock let’s shift that into a Jack to be legit in doing your wants. I named “architectonic ability” to their so-called mentioned above because it reminds me of my dream - to be an Architect.
