the entire state of new south wales, australia has been declared in drought.

NSW is experiencing it’s driest winter on record and our farmers, the backbone of our country, need our help.  farmers are having to shoot their livestock so they don’t end up dying a slow, painful death due to dehydration, lack of food and heat. our wildlife is suffering as well- australian personality grant denyer  has said that kangaroos on his property (pictured above) are drinking out of the dogs water bowl. farms are a source of income. if farmers cannot sell wool, meat, crops etc they do not make any money. they are so broke that suburban and city supermarkets have been generously donating food to them.  not only all this, but the mental and emotional health of our farmers has declined rapidly. mental health issues have risen 70% and the prevalence of suicide in male farmers has increased [suicide rates in rural areas are already 40% higher than in metropolitan areas]. 

so what can we do to help?

here is a gofundme page my friend crystal has set up. it has a little more information + it tells you what your money is going towards. you can also ‘buy a bale’ here. if you aren’t australian and want to help, this is your best option - please donate. if you can’t donate, reblogging this post will help get the word out there.

as for my fellow aussies, here’s what we can do: 

if you live on the central coast of NSW, one of the images above tells you various drop-off points for donated goods, which are listed in the other image.

restaurants, hotels, clubs, RSLs, and eateries across australia are doing parma for a farmer, so check out if there are any near you participating. 

bunnings around australia are donating their sausage sizzle money to ‘buy a bale’, so check out if any near you are doing one soon (or even better- organise one yourself) 

if you live close by an affected area and want to donate, buy the good from the affected areas local supermarket - these businesses are suffering as well.

a drought relief charity concert will be held in october, so keep an eye on the news for more information regarding that.

Any little bit helps

I am so sorry to be doing this but I really need some help. I was hoping to make a happy post about how I got a new puppy, but unfourtunatly I can’t do that. A few days after we got Sunny, the sweetest, softest puppy I’ve ever met, she began to act ill. We took her into the vet and she was diagnosed with parvovirus, an extreamly dangerous illness in young puppies. The treatment she needs will cost well over 5,000usd in hospital stay alone. Even if you can’t afford to donate just sharing will really really help. Sunny is one of the best things that has happened to me this year and I can’t bear to loose her so soon. I Need Help.

I feel so fucking weird making this post, but this is my last resort. I have given myself 3 months to move out before I check myself into the hospital. That’s about all that I can manage before I know that I will need serious help. My mental health is shit but I don’t have the time or energy to take care of myself emotionally.

I start school full time August 27, and will also be working a full time job, plus a side part time job. Campus is 30 minutes away and since it is community college, I have to live at home for the time being. I’m hoping to be able to get an apartment close to campus so I don’t have to travel as far. But I have $2.37 in my bank account as of now. I just got a job, but I can’t get to said job with an almost empty gas tank.

My grandma is a narcissist and has been emotionally abusing me since I was 8. She did the same to my mom who is currently in rehab, after being in prison for 6 months for drug related charges. I can’t go to my family, because I don’t want there to be any indication that I am trying to leave, and they will tell my grandma. I have an incredibly small amount of friends, and none that I could stay with while I try to get on my feet. (If you need to hear more of my “story” to believe it, feel free to message me.)

I set up a paypal account that I’m hoping will get me donations, but I don’t want to just ask for money. There’s nothing wrong with needing help, but my pride is just too strong to not give something in return. So, that being said.
