So first thing we’re going to do is rip off the bandaid about Monk of the Four Elements because that build is only a good choice if you plan on playing as the Avatar and mastering all four elements. But, what if you just want to play as an ordinary Firebender? That’s what I’m here to cover today.

A major drawback to trying to build a bender is how many spells can be learned by Druids, yet the wild shape nature of druids would make the build improper without leaving wild shape ignored.
The Variant Human option grants a bonus feat, which could give your access to Elemental Adept so that your waterbender can resist cold damage, or your firebender can resist fire damage.
If you’re deadset on benders being monks, a possible route is talking to your DM about giving your Monk’s Unarmed Strike cold damage for a waterbender, fire damage for a firebender, bludgeoning for an Earthbender, and either Thunder or Force damage for an Airbender. Otherwise the next best option is to talk to your DM about possibly homebrewing a Monk with access to the Wizard spell list, or just mutliclass Way of the Open Hand Monk with Sorcerer for the subclasses closest associated with the four elements.
