I’ve often found that being kind is the ultimate “pay it forward” system. I have had strangers smile at me as we pass and I have spent my whole day trying to smile at some else back.
Again and again, kindness is never wasted, even if it appears so, because we are simply depositing it in a bank we cannot see and with results we may never witness ourselves. But they are there.
Again and again, we are not necessarily born knowing how to be gentle with ourselves or others. But we can learn, we can “pay it forward” so that maybe a tree will grow a little taller one day, and a person will carry themselves a little lighter and in turn help a stray dog or comfort a crying child.
Sometimes all we have to offer is scraps, but a little is enough, one small bandage at a time, one tiny gesture at a time, and that is enough. For if we all pay it forward than it is not small. One smile at a time, one bank note at time, one person at a time. Pass it down the line– buy a stranger a snack, offer a kind word, understand that everyone is going through something. Everyone is trying their best in the ways they know how.
You lose nothing when you considerate to others, but what we all have to gain is monumental.

2020/07/28: summer studying challenge
Day 9 -  How do you stay motivated to study during the summer?
Honestly staying motivated is v difficult for me but I try to stay motivated by having a set of goals to I would like to accomplish daily, weekly, monthly. I also think of how much I would regret it if I didn’t take the opportunity of free time to learn more things…

07/29/2020, summer studying challenge
have you done or are you planning to do any activities (such as work experience, summer schools or watching lectures) other than normal work during the summer?
yes, i have a lot of music stuff to do. everything (lessons, summer festivals) is virtual which is so different (not in a good way), but at least it is more convenient and casual. plus, because i have no idea which of the things i’m working on next year will even happen, it’s sometimes hard to find motivation. but i’m lucky that i like most of my repertoire!

soft reminder: there’s always something lovely. a caring message, a fluffy dog, books, flowing dresses, sleeping to the sound of rain, clouds shaped like bunnies, warm quilt blankets, a stranger’s kindness.

28.07.20 / happy tuesday. i was going through my planner today because the month’s almost over and i wanted to see if i’ve made progress at all. i think i’ve taken lots of steps towards being more unapologetic when it comes to doing what i want so that was a lovely affirmation. i hope you’re facing the coming of august with a renewed belief in yourself. anyway, i’m off to do more readings this afternoon! take care ♡

If you’re an introvert you’ve probably at one point or another wonder how you’ll make friends in college. I know that we introverts don’t like to initiate conversation because we’re so content in our own company it’s hard to put ourselves out there to meet new people. However, making friends is a big part of the college experiences and I’m gonna share 5 ways you can make friends in college even while maintaining your sanity and having enough me time:
Study in common areas: This is a simple low-stress way to meet people. Usually, you can study by yourself and still get that feeling of “alone” time. It also increases the odds that you might meet someone and the odds are the persona might also be an introvert as well and you’ll have more to connect with.
Go to interest invents: if you’re an introvert and you want to put yourself out there, you’ll want to do it ins place where you’ll find like-minded people. It will be more fruitful for you because instead of raking up friends you have nothing in common with you’ll usually find a solid handful who have similar interest to you. Interest events include clubs, campus events and shows that your already a fan of.
Social Media: This is an underutilized tool for us introvert. If you’ve met someone in a class or walking around campus but you haven’t gotten a chance to build up a solid relationship with them, it might be worthwhile to follow them on social media 1) it will break the ice and make you feel more comfortable approaching each other 2) it will give you a better idea of whether you guys even have anything in common. I’ve maintained several casual friendships online that have transformed into IRL friendships and the best part is you don’t have to leave your room.
Steal your friend’s friends: if you already have a handful of friends that you’ve met in college but you’re looking to branch out, it might be a good strategy to try to make friends with your friend’s friends. 1) you’ll probably like them because you like your friend 2) you’ll probably see them more often because of your friend’s association with them. Don’t be afraid to strike up conversations with people that are close with your other friends. It’s actually ironic that several of my best friends were friends of people I was friends with.
Be approachable: Easier said than done, but an effective way to make friends that doesn’t always have to be on your end. By being friendly and comfortable in your own skin you actually make it easier for people who may have wanted to be friends with you to make that first step. Maybe if someone comes up to ask you something you can have a conversation with them instead of climbing back into your introvert shell. By simply turning everyday interaction into a chance to build new connections and friendships you be surprised the number of people who probably already wanted to be friends with you!
With that being said making friends in college is hard and it takes time! Don’t be afraid to go through some trial and error when trying to create your friend group. Just keep doing things you like and listen to your intuition when it comes to the people around you. Spend time with people who make you feel comfortable and welcomed and distance yourself from those who don’t. It’s better to have a handful of reliable friends you can count on than a dozen friends who aren’t there when you need them. Good luck and remember that everyone deserves love and compassion.
Xoxo,
Georgia

Had a bit of an unintended hiatus there, can’t believe it’s been almost a month since I last checked in! School finished - I ended the year with a 2:1 which I was over the moon about, I got woken up by the email coming through at 4am last week and was too excited to go back to sleep. Other than that I’ve been taking a break - still have that essay due in September but no real rush. Bars and restaurants have been opening back up again since my birthday, so been going out to eat with friends a lot and just generally having a good time, other than that not much is new! Still furloughed, still unsure when I will be going back to work, trying to enjoy the peace while it lasts :)

Wow. Y’all over here showing me mad love and I’m over here neglecting my studies for the most part 😰
Some changes have happened recently and work is extra busy since Japan’s schools started up again in June. I’ll update later!
I’m gonna attempt reading HP in Japanese if anyone would like to join me!

preparing for a new school year
Tumblr media
It’s only two weeks that I’m back for school. In Vietnam, we haven’t had any new cases in 100 days and now we’re back with our first new case in Da Nang. Hope that everyone wears a mask, stays safe and healthy.
It doesn’t matter if you are going to have online or traditional learning, preparation is essential to get you back on track!
Tumblr media
Do your research. Your school may provide online resources so make sure to go through and learn how to use them. Preview your curriculum and class expectations.
Create a schedule. After doing some research, you will have an idea of how your class works, and you can create a timetable of when you are going to attend class and do homework.
Check your tech and wifi. Review your wifi and electronic devices to make sure that they are all updated and work well enough. I’m always the kid who is lagging on the call, so maybe sit somewhere quiet near the wifi!
Separate study space. Don’t mix your relaxing and studying space, choose a place where there is natural light and organize your notebooks, books, and pens to make it a best productive space as possible.
Reach out to people. If you are not sure about something, reach out and ask your teachers through emails, they will definitely support you. Also, talk to your friends through messaging or video calling.
Be prepared mentally. I know that it is so easy to get into the rabbit hole of productivity. Get your sleep schedule back on track and maybe start to do productive work at the time you will be studying in order to get familiar with it.
Tumblr media
Do you research. Similar to online school, you also have to do research on your textbook resources, programs, expectations and work load.
Buy new essentials. Going to traditional school would require you to buy uniforms (if your school has), pens, notebooks, water bottles, etc. Try to prepare as soon as possible so you don’t have to rush later.
Be organized. If schools give you many worksheets, then have your folders color-coded based on each subject. Also try to come up with a set of color you use to highlight and annotate.
Time management. It might feel very weird going back to traditional school. I usually spend all of my morning studying and just chill in the afternoon, but traditional school is so different. Start changing your time habit will get you to adapt faster.
Sanitation and hygiene. Yes, we are in a COVID pandemic. Make sure that you have necessary items such as your hand sanitizer and masks. Remember to go over and follow the social distancing rule at your school.
