Bless you for preserving the work of art this show is!
Absolutely happy that Warrior Nun rose from the dead. Great effort all around. (Really hope they bring back Shotgun Mary because I miss her energy.)
As this development bolsters my hope for Willow, there's work to be done. There's no secret that the Warrior Nun campaign got crazy attention and buy-in, and not just from queer folks - who led the charge.
Willow has the base to grow from the og fans who loved that campy ass film and love this show (it me!) and the young folks who fell in love with the whole Willow gang. That's a great loud and lovely base and it needs to be bigger and louder.
But how does one do that without the damn show! Warrior Nun grew because we had a whole season to rewatch, and then folks picked it up. And petty-ass Disney has taken the show off the platform. (Like f*ck them forever for that. Seriously.)
As always the fanfic and the art and the edits keep this whole thing going. Social media fans those flames. Keep up the word of mouth. Sign petitions and harass your friends. Also, harass Disney. Let's get Kasdan and the crew back on board.
Finally, to the youth, piracy is your friend! 🏴‍☠️ I still have all my burned dvds and cds from college. Yes, there are sites (with spamware, blerg), but torrenting is a good way to go. There are good torrent sites and programs like Utorrent.
Download the whole season. Put it on your drive. Share that drive. Burn it to a dvd. Maybe make copies and just hand them out. Whatever it takes. This show needs eyeballs! I truly believe that Disney et al are choosing to deplatform shows because of the WGA strike and residuals, however, the fact that the majority of the canceled/deplatformed shows are Queer-led, Black/POC led, and often have female leads or focused on women is no coincidence. (Male-centered queer shows are not only being renewed, but if they are canceled, they are easily finding new homes. NPH's show is a prime example.) So, yes, the data suggests that there is a bias against shows about queer/lesbian women and nb folks.
Anywho, mount up Team One Braincell aka Questies, and let's do the thing. Maybe Kasdan can stop his placating approach and get pissed off. It worked for Simon Barry, so who knows.
Let's go storm a castle and whatnot!

What would happen if Sylvanas met a Unicorn after she died? I feel like she wouldn’t in reality, what with Unicorns being attracted to young, pure maidens, but I think it would mean a lot to her post redemption (should she ever get a real one😤). But yeah.

You Are My Reason
“Hang our banners on the outer walls! Let them come. Our strength will outlast any siege they try!” Macbeth paced about his throne room, his eyes wide and wild. “They’ll starve before they crack us open like an egg!” His voice boomed off the marble stone. “We’ll kill them all if it comes to combat.” A scream tore through the halls, making everyone present freeze. A woman shouted, another wailed, then all was silent. “What is that noise?” Macbeth growled and turned to the servant standing by. Seyton, his loyal butler, stepped forward and bowed low before the king of Scotland.
“It is the cry of women, my Lord.” He explained, looking at his king through his black brows.
“Find the reason!” Macbeth bellowed. Seyton didn’t even flinch as he left, casting one glance behind at his perturbed King.
“I had almost forgotten the feel of fear,” Macbeth muttered as he turned towards his throne. “Long ago I might have feared a scream like that, but now I feel nothing. My thoughts bring worse sounds than this.” He sat. “Such a sound will not frighten me.” Seyton returned and approached the throne. “What was the noise?” Macbeth commanded. Seyton straightened and looked his King in the eye.
“The queen, my Lord, is dead.” The court fell silent. Macbeth stood.
“What?” He asked, his voice still and level.
“The queen is dead.” Seyton repeated.
“I heard you the first time!” Macbeth cried, slamming his fist on the throne. Seyton didn’t flinch when everyone else did. Without warning, Macbeth leapt from his dias and charged out, pushing aside soldiers and courtesans, until he reached the crowd of maids in an outer hall. They were weeping, one was still trying to revive the queen.
Macbeth shoved them out of his way. He heard a crack and a small cry of pain when he threw the woman still touching his wife against the wall. “Leave!” He swept around, brandishing his sword at the hovering maids. They scattered. Once he was alone, he fell to his knees and grasped his wife’s face.
“Gruoch?” He whispered, brushing her cheek with a gentle thumb. “Gruoch, wake up.” She didn’t stir. Her eyes stared blankly up at the ceiling. Their fire gone out. “You could have died later,” Macbeth groaned, leaning his forehead to touch hers. “There would have been a time for that.” His voice broke, a ragged sob tore from his throat. “Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, creeps in this petty pace from day to day, forever and ever.” His lip trembled as he somehow found the strength to speak. “We have lighted the way to dusty death for so many fools.” He shook his head against hers, tears spilling onto her face, her beautiful, dead face. “Out, out brief candle. Without you, life is full of shadows and I, a poor player who does nothing but the will of the fates and then is nothing. This tale is told by an idiot. It means nothing.”
His heart pounded. He wanted to be angry, but suddenly he could feel nothing but aching loss. There was a hole where his wife had been. Nothing but the memory remained. He pressed his hand to her heart and wept when he felt nothing.
“My heart is beating, Gruoch.” He murmured. “And my hands are shaking.” His lungs heaved as more sobs forced their way out. “You are the reason for everything I’ve ever done. Please,” He cried. “Please come back. I’d climb every mountain and swim every ocean. Just to be with you and fix what I’ve broken. I need you, Gruoch. I need you.” He buried his face in her bosom, taking in the smell of her that was slowly turning sour. “I would give up everything if I could turn back the clock. I’d fix it all and spend every waking hour keeping you safe.” He lifted his head and kissed her unmoving lips. “Come back!” He shook her in a fit of anger and collapsed over her. “I have nothing if I don’t have you at my side.”
That was it. He had nothing else to give. He cried and cried and cried until there were no tears left in his body. His wife was his light, she was everything. He remembered their whole life together: from poor to rich, grief to joy, sickness and health, cherishing each other til-
Until death do us part.

Just reblogging so I have this saved forever😍
Oblivion is a Bliss
(Five times Raya couldn’t take a hint and the one time she got the message loud and clear)
1. Heart
Namaari was exhausted. Practically dead on her feet. The reconstruction of Heart was not an easy task in any sense of the words. But after everything Namaari had done, this was the least she could do. Even if Chief Benja claimed it was completely unnecessary. Namaari shook her thoughts away and trudged along in hopes of finding her dear enemy turned best friend Raya.
Being able to truly call Raya a friend is a surreal experience in Namaari’s mind. It took a little over seven months of sincere apologies, tears, and countless other little things to repair their relationship. But now they were here, with a trusting and joyful relationship. Despite the many hurdles they had to face, Namaari could now safely say Raya was her closest friend. Sort of.
While it’s true Namaari valued Raya’s friendship above all else, the Fang warrior realized very quickly how those feelings escalated. At least, only now has Namaari truly been able to acknowledge it. Back when she was twelve years old, she didn’t understand why her heart was fluttering when she talked to the other princess or why she was so upset knowing she would betray Raya. The thought of Raya hating her terrified Namaari and she just didn’t know why. The years of spending time worrying about Raya but not being able to do anything to help her killed Namaari. Now that the Fang princess is both older and wiser, she knows exactly what caused all this. Namaari has a crush on Raya.
Deep down, Namaari had always known she felt attracted to Raya. And now that their friendship is finally going strong, her feelings for the Heart princess only grew. Of course, Namaari doesn’t want to do anything that could potentially ruin what they had, so she decided it would be best to keep quiet for now. Although, at the current moment in time, she kind of wished she wasn’t so discreet with her feelings towards Raya.
Right in front of Namaari was some kitchen boy totally flirting with Raya. He just wouldn’t stop telling Raya how beautiful her eyes were or how impressive she was in combat training today. Namaari kind of wished she had her swords to impale the guy. Only a little bit, though.
But hey, Namaari knew that realistically, she had no right to be jealous. If Raya wanted to date some ratty, twig like kitchen boy, then that’s exactly what she would do and Namaari would support her no matter what. But Namaari noticed something odd seeing the two interact. While the kitchen boy was constantly showering Raya in compliments and giving off very clear signals he was attracted to Raya, the Heart princess just…. didn’t react.
Usually, when one is getting flirted with, they will either give off some signal that reciprocates or denies the affection they receive. With Raya, she just wasn’t responding. Like she wasn’t even aware she was being hit on. Namaari wasn’t quite sure what she was supposed to do in this situation. Should she just walk away and leave Raya to her own devices? Should she intervene in case Raya was uncomfortable but doesn’t want to seem rude?
Well, Namaari didn’t need to make a choice. When Raya made eye contact with Namaari, she waved her arm excitedly and beckoned her over. Namaari mentally shrugged and decided to roll with it. If Raya was actually interested in this guy, Namaari doubted she would have been summoned. The Fang princess was no longer worried about the ratty kitchen boy. He was still on thin ice though.
“Hey Namaari! My buddy Chi here just invited me to dinner! Do you want to join us? We plan on going to a pretty popular restaurant that I don’t think you’ve tried yet!” Raya told her excitedly. Chi wasn’t looking too ecstatic at the prospect of Namaari tagging along. That fact made Namaari want to hang with them even more.
“Hey um Raya? I was actually thinking dinner tonight would be just the two of us?” Chi explained. Raya looked confused. Why was Raya confused? It was very clear Chi was asking her out. But then the princess’s eyes widened in realization.
“Oh I see! You want to get to know me better just one on one! No problem! I love spending quality times with friends,” Raya told him. Okay so maybe Raya came to the wrong realization, but it was a realization nonetheless.
“You know what, I just remembered that I actually have plans tonight. Sorry, maybe we can reschedule,” Chi quickly spat out. After confirmation from Raya that it was totally fine, Chi left in a haste. Namaari was struggling to hold back a smug smile. Seeing the light die in Chi’s eyes after Raya’s rejection made the Fang princess want to cackle in glee. Wow, okay, that’s kind of a mean thought there Namaari. Reel it in girl, reel it in.
“Well that’s kind of a bummer. I was really looking forward to eating at that restaurant for the two minutes we planned it,” Raya joked as she began walking towards Namaari. The Fang princess smiled lightly as she walked in step with Raya.
“Hey well, at least he got the message that you weren’t interested,” Namaari said. The Fang princess assumed Raya must feel guilty about rejecting the guy so she’s trying to play it off. Namaari hoped Raya knew she would never judge the shorter girl. Namaari was surprised to see confusion in Raya’s eyes.
“Interested in what? I mean, if you’re talking about dinner I was actually very interested. I just told you that,” Raya explained. Now it was Namaari’s turn to be shocked.
“Do you really not understand what just happened?” Namaari questioned. She received her answer when Raya asked, “what do you mean do I not understand what just happened?”
Well I’ll be damned, Namaari thought. Raya didn’t know she was being hit on. But the kid was so obvious! You would have to be pretty dense not to- oh. Raya’s only form of company was a pillbug for six years. She was completely alone during her most awkward stages of life. Those were also the stages were hormones kicked in and girls her age started giggling about crushes and getting dates.
Of course Raya wasn’t getting any dates because, again, she was totally isolated through out her teen years.
Namaari hesitated answering Raya. The Fang princess wasn’t too sure if she was the best person to teach Raya about this kind of stuff. Yeah, no, she most certainly was not qualified.
“Never mind, I think I was mistaken,” Namaari told her, praying that she bought the lie. It seemed to suffice for Raya, as the Heart princess merely shrugged and continued their stroll to who the hell knows where.
Raya playfully bumped Namaari’s soldier. “Race you to the training grounds!” the shorter girl yelled as she was already a few feet ahead.
“Hey! That’s cheating you little binturi,” Namaari yelled as she gave chase. Raya’s beaming laughter made Namaari’s loss to the training grounds a bit more bearable. Not that Namaari was about admit that, of course. There was still plenty of time, after all.
2. Talon
Namaari had to fight back her laughter seeing Raya trip over her own two feet.
Raya had been overexerting herself in training the past couple weeks and her limbs hadn’t quite healed all the way. But the Chief of Talon requested their presence for a meeting so they didn’t really have much of a choice but to attend. They were finally free and decided to explore the market place to see what kind of random junk they could find in there. Raya was hoping to find a cute souvenir for her ba. Namaari was more than happy to go along with whatever Raya wanted.
A young woman saw Raya’s struggle to stand and quickly swooped in to help her as Namaari was trying to to contain her laughter. Namaari’s joy definitely came to a halt as the woman kept her arms wrapped around Raya after helping her up. What made it even worse was that Raya was beaming up at the other woman after receiving her assistance.
“Thank you for the help, miss! I really appreciate you NOT laughing at me as I struggle,” Raya gave Namaari a pointed glare when she finished her sentence. Namaari couldn’t fight back the smirk creeping onto her face.
“Of course. I have no problems helping a woman as beautiful as yourself,” the woman told her shyly. A bright blush was blossoming on the apples of the random woman’s cheeks. Damn, did Namaari still not have her swords? She needs to start carrying them at all times at this rate.
“Well thanks again! Have a nice night!” Raya told her as she continued her souvenir search. “Oh look at these cute little wooden sculptures, Maari! Do you think Ba would like one?” Raya asked.
The Fang princess wanted to laugh at the hurt look on the Talon woman’s face after she totally got dissed by Raya. It appears that Raya’s oblivious nature has caused her to accidentally reject yet another suitor. However, Namaari couldn’t help but feel slightly concerned. What if Raya’s inability to read social cues got her into trouble one day?
Namaari took one last glance at the dejected woman before returning her full attention to Raya. “I think he would like that dragon at the end of the table. Looks pretty cool, doesn’t it?” Namaari asked. Raya nodded in agreement and purchased the little carving.
As Raya decided to buy another wooden carving, Namaari knew right then and there even if her dense friend and crush got into trouble, the Fang princess would do everything in her power to make sure she stays safe.
“Namaari, check it out! It’s a little serlot with a grumpy face! It looks just like you,” Raya told her, proudly showing Namaari the other wooden carving she purchased. Namaari scoffed and rolled her eyes.
“This dumb looking pillbug reminds me of you so much that I think I’ll buy it,” Namaari told her in retaliation to the Heart princess’s previous statement. Instead of the sound of offense she was expecting, Raya instead exclaimed, “awww dep la, you want something to remind you of me! You really do like me, don’t you?”
“You wish, Raya,” came Namaari’s excellent retort. She could never say that out loud, no matter how true it was. Not yet, at least.
3. Spine
Oh, how Namaari dreaded the cold. She was a shivering, chattering mess and felt like she might as well have stayed stone with how little body heat she possessed. There was only one benefit to this heinous weather. Raya also did terribly in the cold. This meant the the shorter girl was constantly clinging onto Namaari and snuggling her face into the Fang princess’s neck.
Namaari was thankful that she could blame her blush on the chilling weather when she felt Raya cuddle deeper into her. As the Fang princess wrapped an arm around the shorter girl, Namaari swore she saw Raya’s cheeks burn bright red before hiding away in her warm jacket. That might just be wishful thinking on Namaari’s part, however.
“Ugh, Tong is so lucky I love him enough to go into this atrocious weather,” Raya groaned. Namaari sighed before nodding in agreement.
About a week ago, they had received a letter from Tong inviting both girls to their baby shower. His wife had gotten pregnant once more and wanted the two princesses to be there to celebrate with him. They also knew Boun and Noi would be coming over as well. While no one is exactly thrilled to be in Spine in the middle of winter, they were more than happy to celebrate Tong’s growing family.
“Oh thank the spirits we can see his hut,” Namaari breathed out a sigh of relief as the girls rushed over to the door. Raya rapidly knocked on the door until Tong threw it open and enveloped them in a big bear hug before either girls could say a word. Normally, Namaari wouldn’t appreciate the lack of air in her lungs but hey the added body heat the hug gave made it all worth it.
“Welcome, young warriors! How thrilled I am seeing you two here!” he yelled happily as he set them both down. Raya smiled fondly up at him and grabbed Namaari’s hand, dragging them both into the warm hut.
“We’re happy to be here, Tong. Congratulations on the baby,” Namaari told him sincerely. She always loved kids. Having a family was always a big dream of hers. Especially with Ray- okay brain. Namaari hasn’t even confessed let’s calm down here.
Namaari heard Raya gasp in surprise as she found both Noi and Boun attached to her legs. Namaari laughed as Raya rolled her eyes in annoyance at the two kids antics knowing that Raya secretly loved them.
“Well hello to you too, problem children,” Raya said, looking down at the kids still resting on her legs. They both waved up at her enthusiastically in greeting. Boun then grinned at Namaari and yelled out a very happy hello that the Fang princess was glad to return. Noi also made her own little garbling sounds to acknowledge Namaari’s presence.
“You mind helping me out here, dep la?” Raya asked her. Namaari smiled wickedly before turning away.
“You know, I don’t think I’ve congratulated Tong’s wife yet. I think that’s what I’ll do right now,” she said mischievously before walking off to find Tong’s wife. Namaari smirked hearing Raya’s cries of outrage as the taller woman left her to fend for herself.
Before the Fang princess knew it, she had been conversing with Tong’s family for hours. The sun had already set and she knew it would soon be time for them to go to the hut they rented for the night. Namaari’s eyes began searching the place to locate Raya and what she found did not please her in the slightest.
Some burly guy was looming over Raya, trying to make a move. Namaari was pretty sure he was Tong’s nephew or some other relative. His body language was screaming at Raya to notice him. Spirits, why didn’t Namaari have her swords!?
Namaari quickly walked towards them in case she needed to help Raya out of this situation. Considering the fact that Raya is terrible at getting a hint, the Fang princess’s intervention is probably necessary. As she got closer, he heard the burly guy’s annoying voice and the words he was saying was not pleasant.
“I hope I’m not being too blunt when I say this, but wow you are really hot, princess,” the guy said, smirking down at her. Just when Namaari was scanning the house in hopes of finding an object sharp enough to cut this beanstalk of a man down, Raya’s voice interrupted her.
“What are you talking about!? I think my lips are turning blue! I am not hot in any way, shape, or form right now,” Raya told him pointedly. Namaari resisted the urge to facepalm. At least the guy was looking uncomfortable now. Namaari decided to step in right then and there.
“Hey, so sorry to interrupt, but we must get going before it gets dark out. Isn’t that right, dep la?” Namaari asked Raya. The Heart princess nodded in agreement, only now realizing the time.
“Let me say goodbye to everyone real quick and we can head over to our hut for the night,” Raya told Namaari. The Fang princess nodded in understanding and let Raya say her goodbyes to everyone.
Namaari didn’t miss the scowl aimed at her by the burly man after she cut their conversation short. Namaari didn’t let it bother her. At the end of the day, Raya was sharing a hut Namaari, not this guy who looked like he could crush a mountain with his bare hands. Her face instantly softened seeing Raya make her way towards them.
“Alright I’m ready! I call left side of the bed!” Raya told her as the two girls walked out of the house. Namaari shot one last smug smile at the burly boy before holding the door open for Raya as they journeyed towards their destination.
Namaari couldn’t wait to cuddle in close with Raya in one warm and fluffy bed. As friends, of course.
4. Fang
Namaari awoke in a panic as she was shaken by an unknown person. After realizing the intruder was only Raya, Namaari calmed down significantly and expressed her annoyance at being woken up with a loud groan.
“Ugh, I thought you were coming over tomorrow. Why are you here so early?” Namaari asked. Raya beamed up at her and Namaari’s stupid heart began fluttering. How dare she be so cute this early in the morning.
“I wanted to come a day early so that we could spend some time together before having to do all the boring paperwork stuff,” Raya explained. Namaari sighed in order to mask her delight at the thought of Raya wanting to spend extra time with her.
“What do you want to do since you simply HAD to come over a day early?” the Fang princess questioned. Raya seemed to be in deep thought before making a decision.
“How about a little sparring match? We haven’t been able to do one of those since forever ago,” Raya answered.
“Well then get out of here, I need to change. I’ll meet you down at the sparring grounds, yeah?” Namaari asked. The Heart princess nodded enthusiastically and practically skipped out the room to change into suitable sparring clothes. Raya stopped at the door and threw Namaari one last smug little face.
“Don’t be too upset when you lose, dep la!” she called over her shoulder before running off. Namaari let out a loud scoff in hopes that the short girl heard her doubt.
The Fang princess mourned the loss of her warm bed one last time before throwing the covers off of her to get changed. The things she did for that pretty little binturi. Once she threw on the appropriate attire, she had to stop herself from running to the training grounds. Namaari couldn’t wait to wipe that smug smile off the Heart princess’s face.
By the time Namaari arrived at the training grounds, Raya was already in the middle of a pretty intense hand to hand combat match. The Fang princess recognized Raya’s opponent as Minh, one of the newer soldiers of the Fang army. He definitely had a lot of potential, the young man just needed to hone his skill.
Namaari watched as the two fought, analyzing both of their movements. Raya clearly had the upper hand and was really going in for the kill. Minh’s movements were a lot sloppier than usual. It kind of looked like he wasn’t even trying at all.
……..wait a damn minute.
The more Namaari observed, the more she realized Minh was putting no effort whatsoever into the fight. He was letting Raya do as she pleased. But why on Earth would he just-
Oh this sly little binturi. It became very clear to the Fang princess that Minh was sparring with Raya simply to be spend time with her. With the way the young soldier was constantly eyeing Raya and doing what he could to get closer to her, any idiot could spot his true intentions. Except Raya wasn’t just any idiot. She was much more clueless than most idiots.
A supreme idiot, if you will.
Soon enough, Raya was straddling the guy after successfully pinning him to the ground with no way out. Not that Minh seemed to mind. Namaari’s hands were itching to inflict some damage on that young soldier. At least she actually had her swords this time.
“Looks like I win this round, soldier boy. Better luck next time,” Raya declared smugly. Minh simply grinned up at her.
“Well considering our current position, it looks like I’m the real winner here,” Minh said in a flirtatious tone. The Fang princess was really starting to feel some murderous intent coming. She had to remind herself that there are no serlot kittens in prison.
“Uh no the fact that you literally can not move is proof I win. You must have hit your head too hard when I slammed your face in the dirt,” Raya exclaimed, pulling Minh up as she also stood once more. How Namaari fell in love with the dumbest woman alive, she truly will never know. The universe works in mysterious ways.
“I must say, Princess Raya, you are very flexible,” Minh said in a suggestive tone that Namaari did not like in the slightest. Once more Raya did not understand the situation.
“Why thank you! It came in pretty hand when I was on the run,” Raya joked. Minh then smirked.
“I can teach you some other activities your flexibility can be useful for,” Minh replied. Raya looked up at him innocently.
“Like what?” she asked. He was about to reply before Namaari casually shoved him away.
“Well Minh, I believe it is time for you to be literally anywhere else but here! Have a good day now,” Namaari practically yelled while shooing him away. The soldier boy looked like he was about to protest, but stopped himself seeing the threatening look in Namaari’s eyes. He gulped and practically ran off. That’s right you atrocious little warm, just walk away.
“Namaari! Why did you make him go away?” Raya pouted. “I want to know what else my flexibility can be useful for! You never know when you might need some special skills to get yourself out of a tight situation!”
“You better hope that flexibility is going to be useful against me, dep la,” Namaari challenged, effectively making Raya forget about Minh.
“Come at me, undercut,” Raya grinned as the match began. Namaari smirked and dived right in. She had to show the Heart princess who was in control, after all.
(If anyone noticed Minh being forced to run extra laps while Namaari was in charge of conditioning new soldiers, no one said a word.)
5. Tail
Namaari scowled as Raya canon balled into the pool right in front of her. Now the Fang princess was drenched in water that probably had seven different types of diseases.
Even if Namaari is sweating harder than a sinner in a church, she had no plans to get into that spirit forsaken pool. When Kumandra began anew once more, the people of Tail needed more spots to cool down which is why there are so many random pools in the land these days. Namaari still refused to go anywhere near them. Who knew what some of these people do in those damned waters.
Raya, on the other hand, had no problems in stripping right down to her underwear before flinging herself in the large body of water. The way the water drops raced down Raya’s exposed skin-
Remember to look respectfully, Namaari thought to herself. Just because Raya can’t get a clue doesn’t mean that staring at her like a piece of meat is all that great of an idea.
The Fang warrior groaned and used the blanket she was sitting on to wipe that gross water off her body.
“Is this really necessary, dep la? We were only supposed to be passing through Tail, not swim here,” Namaari stated in an attempt convince Raya to get the hell out of here.
“Oh come on, I feel like I’m melting! Besides it’s not like anyone else is he-” the Heart princess was cut off by the sound of people walking right towards them. “I stand corrected,” the shorter girl mumbled.
Namaari rolled her eyes before analyzing the newcomers cautiously. There were no obvious weapons on them and they seemed to have the same idea as Raya with her swimming nonsense. Namaari’s guard was lowered slightly as the strangers hopped into the water at a relatively safe distance away. She figured it would be best to stay alert, just in case.
“Oh well, if you want to get burned alive, who am I to stop you, dep la?” the Heart princess sighed dramatically before swimming away to the other side of the pool. Namaari rolled her eyes before leaning back and closing her eyes, trying to gain some sense of peace despite the horrid heat and random people right beside her.
After a few minutes of attempted relaxation, Namaari heard Raya’s voice. The Fang warrior cracked an eye open to see Raya talking to one of the random women that was with the group of strangers. Namaari also took notice of the fact that the woman Raya was talking to was not so subtly glancing down at the Heart princess’s chest. Oh sweet spirits, another person wanting to get with Raya. Why did Namaari not see this one coming?
Namaari watched them like a hawk in case she needed to step in. After a couple of minutes of the Tail woman hardcore flirting and the Heart princess standing there awkwardly, Raya shrugged and then climbed on the woman’s back. This new development surprised Namaari greatly. The woman shrieked in outrage and yelled something indistinguishable before throwing Raya off her and getting out of the pool.
Raya scowled at the woman’s back and swam over to Namaari. The taller woman raised an eyebrow at her friend.
“What happened back there? Conversation was fine until you latched onto her back like a koala,” Namaari asked. Raya frowned and grabbed a towel to dry herself off.
“Okay this time it actually wasn’t my fault! We were just talking and then she asked me if I wanted to ride her, right? And then-” Raya cut herself off seeing Namaari’s enraged look on her face. “Uh, you good Namaari?” Raya questioned. Namaari took a deep breathe to regain control. That woman was so lucky she had already left or else Fang princess’s swords would have been put to use this time.
“It’s nothing. Continue Raya,” Namaari assured her. The shorter girl shrugged before continuing.
“Okay, so she asked me if I wanted to ride her. I asked if she wanted me to ride her right now and then she said sure. So I climbed onto her back and told her to start moving! But then she threw a huge hissy fit and started yelling things I didn’t even understand! After that she just stormed off! All I did was do what she asked,” Raya huffed. Namaari truly didn’t know whether to laugh, cry, or track that woman down and finish her off. Instead, Namaari chose to breathe out a deep sigh.
“Dep la, you need to talk to your ba. I don’t think my mental state can take any more of this,” Namaari said before packing her things to get on the road again. Raya looked at her in confusion before joining her in getting ready to leave.
Namaari knew that if she tried to explain this to her, she would fail miserably. She doubted Raya would even understand anyways. Their last hope was Chief Benja talking some sense into her.
+1. Home
Raya wasn’t stupid in any sense of the word. She knew she wasn’t, or else she wouldn’t have survived six years by herself while tracking down a supposedly nonexistent dragon. Not to mention she helped save Kumandra when pretty much all hope was lost. So yeah, she definitely considered herself to be pretty damn smart.
So then why was her ba looking at her like she was an idiot?
Well, not an idiot necessarily, but a child. The twelve year old girl she was before the Druun. The months following her ba’s revival from stone was not an easy one by any means. One of the things he struggled with most was remembering that Raya was all grown up. He had to make a conscious effort to not treat her like a kid and he usually does a good job. Even if he slips up sometimes. But then again, don’t we all?
Right now, however, the Chief of Heart had asked to talk with her over tea and he was giving her the ba look. Also known as the “you are very much still a child to me and I need to guide you” look. Raya sighed and hoped that this discussion would be quick.
“So what did you summon me here for on this fine day?” Raya asked. Her ba smiled and took a long sip of tea before getting down to business.
“Dewdrop, I want you to really hear me out when I say this, so no interruptions until I tell you I’m finished alright?” Benja asked. Raya was still so very confused but nodded anyways letting her ba continue.
“So Namaari has mentioned to me that she has some, how should I put this, concerns about you,” Benja told her. “She has told me of a couple of incidents where you misread a situation and it worries her that one day it will get you into trouble. So let me ask you something. It might be weird talking to me about this subject because I’m your ba, but it must be done. What exactly do you know about romance? Attraction of any kind?”
Raya opened her mouth to answer, but then realized she couldn’t. Why is her brain unable to respond to such a simple question? She frowned deeply upon realizing she truly knew nothing at all about this subject.
“Now that you mention it, not much honestly. I know the basic things anyone would know. Marriage, kissing, I’m well aware about the birds and the bees so we don’t need to have THAT talk again just to be totally clear,” Raya pointedly told her ba before carrying on. “I know about flirting, telling people I love you, that sort of thing. But when I try to think about that sort of thing in depth I just.. can’t come up with anything,” Raya said, biting her lip. Why was this so difficult? Is something wrong with her?
Benja gave her a reassuring smile and put a comforting hand on top of hers. “It’s completely understandable that you don’t have a very good grasp on this concept okay? Being alone during such a life changing stage couldn’t have been easy on you, Dewdrop. Let’s talk about it,” Benja said. Raya nodded eagerly. She wanted to overcome this awkward and unfortunate hurdle.
Thus, Benja’s lesson of romance was born. Raya was told about all the social cues to know if someone was interested, key words that make it clear someone is attracted to you, and knowing if you are attracted to someone. After having it throughly explained to her, Raya realized a couple of things at once.
“Wait. So the kitchen boy that asked me to dinner wanted to date me, right?” Raya asked. Benja nodded in confirmation. “So did that girl in Talon, Tong’s relative, one of Namaari’s soldiers and that girl in Tail. Oh. Oh sweet spirits she was a little too interested,” Raya groaned, now realizing what the Tail girl had meant by the term “ride me”. The Heart princess decided it was best to pretend that never happened.
Benja laughed as he continued to nod as Raya’s realizations kept on coming. Raya gasped as she came to yet another epiphany.
“You said that when people are interested in someone romantically their heart rates increase, they always to spend time with, they can’t stand the thought of them dating someone else, and they’re always able to make them smile, right?” Raya asked. Benja agreed with a silent thumbs up as he continued to enjoy his tea.
“Oh dear dragons this is horrible news,” she whispered. Her ba only grinned as if this was some laughing matter when it absolutely was NOT!
“Oh? Does my little Dewdrop have a crush?” he asked with a teasing grin and Raya groaned in despair. She should have never asked about these feelings. Then maybe she wouldn’t have to deal with them.
“Unfortunately so. It’s Namaari, ba. NAMAARI! Can you believe it? I have a crush on Namaari of Fang and I’m pretty sure I’ve had it for a while,” Raya practically cried out. Why was her ba smiling? This is probably the worst thing she’s ever said and her ba had the audacity to smile at her?!
“Congratulations! You are officially the last person to know!” her ba told her happily. Raya was pretty sure she was going to puke.
“You’re telling me Namaari knows?!” Raya whispered frantically. Benja, thankfully, shook his head.
“No, she actually is unaware. You maybe be dense, but she’s in denial. What a couple you’ll become. Now all you need to do is confess and-” Benja was cut off by Raya’s glare.
“Tell her?! Are you insane? I can’t just tell her this it could ruin everything! We’ve been at each other’s throats for years and our relationship is only just now healing! Besides, there’s no way she likes me like that anyways,” she declared, mumbling the last part in disappointment. Benja sighed and shook his head.
“You clearly don’t see the way she looks at you. It seems drastic times call for drastic measure,” Benja spoke determinedly. “I challenge you to confess your feelings to Namaari!”
Oh that cunning binturi. Using her weakness against her. Raya knew her competitive nature would ruin her someday. Looks like that day is today. Raya sighed before getting up and walking to her room.
“Namaari should be in my room now. When she rejects me I want your famous stew. Hopefully it’ll help heal my broken heart,” Raya grouched as she slammed the door behind her. The walk to her room felt like a fifty mile hike. She took a deep breathe of courage before swinging the door open, revealing Namaari just as she predicted.
Though, Namaari wasn’t looking quite like herself. The Fang princess was staring at the ground in concentration, she was twiddling her thumbs nervously, and she had a lovely shade of red spreading across her face. Huh. If Raya could recall correctly from her talk with her ba, these were all signs that Namaari is romantically interested in her! But that couldn’t be.
Could it?
Well, she would have to figure that out later. Clearly, Namaari was in distress and Raya would do what she could to help her out.
“Hey dep la, something wrong? You’re looking a bit tense,” Ray asked, putting a comforting hand on Namaari’s shoulder. The Heart princess regretted her action as the taller girl just tensed up even more. Namaari sighed before facing her.
“Alright, so I want to tell you something really important. Please just listen the whole way through,” Namaari begged. Raya nodded her understanding and motioned for her to continue. “Raya, I’m in love with you. I think I’ve loved you since the day we met. I thought it would be so easy to get you to lead me to that stupid gem and stab you in the back with no remorse. But within five minutes of knowing you I was in so damn deep. From the first day we met I knew you had a beautiful heart like no other. After everything I had done to you, you were still found it within yourself to trust me. It saved us all. You saved us, Raya. You saved me.”
Raya definitely wasn’t crying or anything. She absolutely was not overcome with so much love in her heart that she really just wanted to kiss Namaari right then and there.
Namaari took a deep breathe before she continued. “It’s not just that wonderful heart of yours that draws me to you, dep la. It’s the way you never fail to make me laugh by saying some dumb comment. It’s the way you smile when a kid talks to you because no matter how much you like to pretend you hate them those children adore you as much as you adore them. It’s the way you are so you. And I completely understand if you don’t reciprocate my feelings or never want to talk to me again after this, I just needed to tell you tha-” Namaari was caught off by Raya slamming her lips right on the Fang princess’s.
Raya was afraid she went too fast when Namaari didn’t react for a second but was relieved when the taller girl kissed back. Those dumb romance books she read as a kid were wrong. There weren’t butterflies in her stomach, more like a bunch toot-n-booms going off in every part of her body. And it felt so, so right. Being in Namaari’s arms made Raya feel safe. Namaari felt like home.
Unfortunately, air was still a thing so they had to separate soon enough. They both breathed heavily and stared deeply into each other’s eyes. Raya knew her face was raging mess of red. It made her so very thankful that Namaari appeared to be in a similar state. Raya grinned up at her.
“You know, I actually came in here to tell you that I loved you too. I told ba to make me stew because I was expecting rejection from you. I’m glad my stew is now celebratory instead of self pitying,” Raya told her and the Fang princess barked out a laugh.
“Great minds think alike, I suppose. I was honestly kind of worried my confession would fly right over your head. You don’t exactly have the best track record for understanding these types of things,” Namaari told her. Raya sighed and nodded in agreement. Harsh, but very true.
“Yeah I had to talk to ba about it. Man I feel pretty stupid now. It makes me wonder who else was into me and I just didn’t realize,” Raya wondered out loud. She didn’t notice Namaari’s eye twitch of irritation at the thought of other people being interested in her.
“Well, it’s a good thing you have me around to help you with these things. And I will have the help of my swords if need be,” Namaari said, mumbling the second sentence. Raya rose an eye brow as she couldn’t hear the last bit.
“What was that?” Raya asked. Namaari cleared her throat awkwardly before linking arms with Raya and guiding her out of the room.
“Don’t worry about it, dep la. Let’s have some of that celebratory stew you told me about, I’m starved,” Namaari declared. Raya grinned and kissed her cheek.
“Anything for you, undercut,” Raya teased as she let herself get ushered to kitchens by the taller girl. The Heart princess sighed in content feeling Namaari wrap her arms around Raya’s shoulders.
She also pretended she didn’t notice the dirty Namaari threw Chi, the kitchen boy. Raya would bully the other princess about her slight jealousy streak later. For now, she was just going to enjoy the moment.

She’s Avoiding Me
AO3 | Words: 3,081 | Rating: T
Raya’s lips pinch to a thin line. “No, I do! I do like you!” She searches the ground for the words she’s trying to piece together. “I-I-I’m sorry that I… I’m just not good with words and feelings and things like that… but I do like you,” she takes Namaari’s face in her hands, her eyes glancing at her lips again, “so much, dep la. And—”
Namaari closes the distance between them. And in the split second their lips touch, she knows she made a terrible mistake as she feels Raya gasp and tense. Namaari pulls back and her heart sinks at the expression of utter bewilderment looking back at her.
OR

This is so cute omg. I’m honestly reblogging to save it😍 Ramaari is probably my new favorite ship lol I’ve seen the movie like five times now
Rayaari headcanon - mothering moments with Virana learning to accept Raya
(inspired by this lovely anon)
Virana admittedly struggles to like Raya at first, the girl that has stolen Namaari's heart. Raya is the Princess of a land that historically has not been on the friendliest terms with Fang. Furthermore, she can remember the showdown in Heart all those years ago, when the Gem broke, and she remains suspicious that the young girl who was so impacted by that moment could now be so forgiving - of Namaari, of herself, and of Fang.
Raya also struggles to like Virana at first, although she refuses to say as much out loud. Namaari has never once placed blame of That Night on anyone except for herself, but Raya is mature enough now to recognize that a twelve year old was unlikely to be the mastermind behind the Gem theft, as well as smart enough to know exactly who was the likely instigator. She sees Virana for who she is, or so she thinks - a cold and calculating leader, who will stop at nothing to defend her people, everyone else be damned.
But Namaari...Namaari loves her mother with all her heart. Raya can see it in the way she smiles at Virana whenever the Chief says something encouraging, in the way she still seeks her mother out for an embrace sometimes after a long day, in a thousand small ways that remind her how Virana is all Namaari has left for family, just like her and Ba only have each other.
However, Raya is missing one thing...Namaari also loves her, although she has yet to say those exact three words. Virana can see it in the way she lights up whenever Raya enters the room, in the way she tries to make everything perfect for Raya's visits to Fang each time, in the way she can't stop talking to Raya or about Raya, and the thousands of words Virana has to hear about The Amazing Raya.
The first few visits where they all spend time together, Namaari is clearly a bundle of nerves. Her shoulders are tense, her gaze flicking back and forth between Raya and Virana, as if expecting things to implode at any moment even as they feast on congee.
Raya and Virana come to the same realization at the same time: Namaari wants them to get along, because they are the two most important people in her life. And so, a silent truce is born, built upon knowing glances and sometimes narrowed eyes. Namaari doesn't notice; she's too busy enjoying the fact that Virana and Raya remain perfectly civil through all their discussions.
This tense but "civil" relationship could have gone on indefinitely, neither being willing to evolve it into something more. But then, Namaari falls ill.
It starts off fairly innocuously, with Namaari simply feeling more fatigued and losing her appetite. But by the next morning, Raya can't wake her, and when she presses the back of her hand to Namaari's forehead, it is burning up.
At first, Virana and Raya sit in silence by her bed, whilst the doctors flit in and out of the room, prescribing different medications and treatments. As night falls, and Namaari's condition remains unchanged, they settle in for the long haul, unwilling to leave her.
Some time after midnight, Virana extends a peace offering, by way of words. 'She was so small as a child,' she says quietly, eyes still fixed on her daughter. 'And so often sickly, not helped by the food shortage at the time. She's been strong for so long, I had almost forgotten what this feels like.'
Raya can't help but lean slightly towards the older woman, sensing the pain in her words. It's a shared pain, but she tries to alleviate the moment by adding 'I bet she was also a troublemaker as a child too though, right?'
Virana laughs shakily, and agrees. 'Although no more so than she is now, when you and she go off on adventures together.' Raya can't help but smile at this thought too, and they spend the rest of the night quietly reminiscing about some of the different ways Namaari has managed to get herself into trouble.
When Namaari awakens three days later, it is to her mother and her girlfriend both leaning over the bed and smiling at her.
After that incident, it's impossible to go back to the icy relationship they had before. Raya catches herself exchanging silent gestures with Virana sometimes, but now it is in full view of Namaari, and usually along the lines of 'can you believe the ridiculousness of what your daughter is saying?' or 'She's your girlfriend - make sure she takes a break and stops working today'.
Namaari always narrows her eyes at this, unsure how thrilled she is at her Ma and Raya ganging up on her now.
Sometimes, although Raya would never admit it, she feels a small spark of jealousy when she sees Namaari and Virana together. She loves her Ba deeply, but there are days where the loss of her mother sends a spark of sadness through her. She was so young when her Ma died that she has barely any memories, but she has a sense of longing over the idea that she could receive advice or a loving hug from a mother figure.
Fang hosts a large celebration a year after the defeat of the Druun, as a way to bring all the lands together and also to offer a hand of diplomatic friendship to those who are still unsure of their intentions. Raya will be representing Heart for the evening, but since she's being staying in Fang for the last fortnight, she is preparing for the evening in Namaari's room.
Namaari is busy getting her own formal outfit on, when Raya for some reason unbeknownst even to herself begins to have a meltdown in front of the mirror over her hair. She wants to look every inch the important Princess tonight, both for her Ba and Namaari, but also to intimidate all the political dignitaries who still doubt her ability to help lead her own country. Yet, it is the one day where her hair refuses to cooperate, and she's embarrassed to feel hot tears of frustration leak down her cheeks.
'Are you alright?' Virana's voice interrupts her internal spiral. Raya tries to hide her face quickly, ducking her head and mumbling quietly about being absolutely fine.
Then there are soft hands cupping her cheeks, and thumbs wiping away her tears with the practiced strokes of a mother used to comforting her own daughter.
'Come on, let's get this sorted,' Virana's voice is no-nonsense, but her movements are gentle as she pulls the comb out of Raya's hand and begins to brush her hair.
She hums as she works, expertly twisting Raya's hair into a beautiful style and pinning it place so it will last the full evening, including through dancing. When she's done, she places both hands on Raya's shoulders, and smiles at her reflection in the mirror. 'Beautiful,' she says, just as Namaari returns from her own preparations, and echoes her mother's thoughts.
Several years later, Raya asks Virana to recreate that same hairstyle - this time, for her wedding to Namaari.
