The fandom tends to exaggerate when it comes to these things I noticed. And then it’s like the game telephone where it gets more warped down the line.
Paul and Ethan knew what Spirk was, and were joking around with the name with other cast members. In later interviews, an interviewer asks how they played their first meeting knowing it’s such a big moment, and Ethan played it casual because that’s how it was written (and the director had the same attitude - play it casual - according to Paul). Meanwhile, Paul was all over the place freaking about how big a moment it was. Ethan mentions he saw an op-ed about “Platonic love at first sight” and relates the moment to that. All of that was about the characters’ first meeting.
Another interviewer says “Spirk” and Paul and Ethan both joke about getting that tattooed on them.
In all the interviews, it’s more just like Ethan is “in the moment” playing what’s written. He never says anything negative about Spirk. He just comes across as focused on his job.
is ethan peck still an idiot who doesn’t support spirk or has he woken up to reality and remembered the show he’s on

Her message being “if I have to leave you, I won’t fight it” seemingly without discussing it with him is pretty bad imo. Because that’s not a feeling or thought that typically happens in an instant. She had to have been feeling this - not willing to fight as hard for the relationship, being ready to leave at the drop of a hat without warning him - for a while.
(The songs were like alcohol really: the truth was there, they were just able to admit it openly.) We already had a suspicion her thoughts may have been going in this direction ever since her talk with Boimler. And Spock does say she didn’t share with him the details of this convo. So he doesn’t understand & she didn’t communicate with him her fears.
They both failed to communicate properly, especially in regard to their commitment to the relationship.
I’m going to defend Christine Chapel here and say that her singing about ending her relationship with Spock for her fellowship in front of the crew was not a cold-hearted move. SPOCK KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING. He and Uhura knew confronting Chapel would launch a song. Also in his defense, he probably thought HE’D be the one singing.
No. I think the horrible thing that she did was not tell Spock herself when she found out (excusable if you consider Spock was busy trying to stop the music shenanigans he caused), or not discuss it with him more before it came to this (he loves science, he loves Christine, he would have been HAPPY for her and they could’ve worked on things because it’s a short fellowship!). Both, either, whatever, she messed up. And I believe she’s been pulling away since she spoke to Boimler.
Spock’s terrible thing was confronting her publicly like that. Again, I give him a little slack cause he could’ve started singing instead of her. But still, that should’ve been private.
They both messed up.
