Artefact No. 1 — Musical figurine, 1916
Found in the attic of a house belonging to an elderly woman long since passed. The figurine looks to be custom made, possibly meant to resemble the recipient’s son depicted in a small photograph tucked away in the base. However, its maker is unknown as well as why it was in the woman’s possession. It is thought to be a memento commissioned to remember her son Pte. T. J. Belrose when he went overseas in 1916. The inscription on the bottom reads, “My heart is always with you”. Pte. Belrose died on the 12th of April 1918 at 22 years old. The young couple who moved into the house noticed a strange melody coming from the attic at night and soon discovered the musical memento thankfully intact. Though the figurine no longer spins, it continues to mysteriously play music on its own without winding the key, most notably at 12:04 just after midnight.

Me on a mission to save all the rare WWI prosthetic limbs from the “”upcyclers””
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So a very unique purchase I made during hiatus… a pair of antique prosthetic arms I basically saved from being sold as lamps?? They were most likely made between 1900-1930, though one professor I reached out to says they might specifically be WWI era or thereabouts which is grand cos I’ve been getting very into WWI medicine, specifically prosthetics and plastic surgery, these past two years. Definitely a great addition to my collection regardless! They are two left arms produced for two different people but by the same maker in France and came with a swivel joint and hook, ring, and brush attachments.

how’s glasgow? are you well? i hope you’re having a wonderful time
Doing a lot better, the hiatus really made a difference. Mostly it’s been coursework but I’ve managed to do quite an array of things? Traveling about, reenactments, even dabbling in some burlesque stuff which has been very fun?? The latter I have an ig for if anyone wants to see that (@iheartbillievalentine). Hoping to post more art now cos my style has changed A LOT since I was more active on here! I did miss the fun interactions I have on here and the art and niche content… but now I’m back :)
I also have to sorta refresh who I’m following after being away so if anyone’s got recs for active history or aesthetic blogs that fit the vibe, feel free to share!
