Bro, I live with my husband and hang out with him a lot, but I’m still constantly feeling touch-starved! So this week I wrote a reader who could relate to me. I’m thinking that a lot of you are probably in similar boats? Regardless, I hope you like it!

He touched you like it was nothing. He touched you as idly and automatically as though it were breathing. You would never have expected that from him, but it meant more to you than you could ever express in words.

You were born, it had always seemed, with an innate sense of touch-starvation. It was hard to sleep, to focus, to sit still unless someone had their hands on you. Looking back, you couldn’t help but feel awful for your mother, who’d always had the gentle patience of a saint even as you beleaguered her with sticky toddler-hands. Growing up, you’d had more than your share of awkward and uncomfortable situations—overwhelming a friend who’d have preferred not to be touched, explaining to other friends that you weren’t trying to steal their partners, explaining to still other friends that you were just touchy, not sexually interested in them. The world did its part to grind that little quirk out of you. At least a little. You’d definitely learned to keep your hands to yourself at all costs. But you hadn’t learned how not to crave touch.
