MotoGP Valencia Results 2019
16-year old Sergio Garcia won his first Grand Prix race in Moto3, becoming the 12th rider in 19 rounds to stand on the top step. Brad Binder won again in Moto2, showing the world he’s ready for MotoGP. And Marc Marquez won yet again, clinching the triple crown – rider, team and manufacturer championships – for his brothers on the Repsol Honda team. Now, it’s 2020. If you believe what you hear, the team may feature an additional brother starting this week.

Your 2019 Grand Prix World Champions.
Jorge Lorenzo’s sudden retirement has tossed a spanner into the “who will be working where in 2020?” mechanism, which had appeared to have been sorted. Too many rumors to try to process, so I’ll ignore them and put some stuff on the blog until the picture becomes clear. My only thought of any consequence is that I bet HRC wishes they could get Brad Binder rather than Alex Marquez, if they decide not to go with Johann Zarco. Plenty of food for thought.

There was a strange incident in FP3 as Francesco Bagnaia’s brakes seemed to lock up as he was exiting pit lane. Bagnaia broke his left wrist in the crash and missed the race.
As has become customary in the premier class, Yamahas owned Friday. FP1 was cold, and FP2 cool. Times were slow. Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Viñales topped the sheet with Franco Morbidelli sitting in P5 and your boy Valentino Rossi, having crashed twice, loafing in P14. He would get somewhat more serious on Saturday.
FP3 saw ten riders in the 1:30’s, as track temps began to rise. Joan Mir joined mostly usual suspects passing straight into Q2, including Rossi. Alex Rins and Pol Espargaro graduated from Q1 into Q2. After a somewhat uneventful Q2 it was Quartararo, Marquez and Jack Miller on Row 1 and Viñales, Morbidelli and Andrea Dovizioso making up Row 2. Lorenzo’s all-time track record from 2016 remained sentimentally in place. Rossi made a hash of Q2 and would start Sunday from P12.

Fabio Quartararo finishes his rookie MotoGP campaign with another pole.
It was an all-KTM front row in Moto3 for Sunday, with Lorenzo Dalla Porta swinging from P7. In Moto2, it was Jorge Navarro on pole, up-and-coming Jorge Martin in the middle, and MV Augusta pilot Stefano Manzi third, titleist Alex Marquez putzing around in P15.
The Races

Sergio Garcia earned his first career Grand Prix, taking the red-flagged race by just 0.005 seconds ahead of Andrea Migno.
Moto3 was a demolition derby that started with Aron Canet’s KTM depositing oil on Turns 5 and 6 and ended, later than scheduled, with Dennis Foggia in the hospital and 11 other riders hitting the deck, some for the duration. No word as this goes to press on Foggia’s condition, other than he was conscious on the track. Two 16-year olds, Garcia and Xavier Artigas, ended the day on the podium along with veteran Andrea Migno. The world awaits word on the condition of Foggia on a bad day for KTM.

Brad Binder won the Moto2 race to secure second overall in the championship ahead of Tom Luthi.
The Moto2 race was proof that KTM promoted the right rider, as Binder ended his Moto2 career with three straight wins, coming within three points of taking the 2019 title himself. Dude can ride a motorcycle. The Great South African Hope was joined on the podium by good ol’ Tom Luthi and Navarro, with Manzi coming this close to giving MV its first podium appearance since, ahem, 1961.

There was a scary incident on Lap 14 after Johann Zarco crashed. Walking in the gravel with his back to the track, he was wiped out by Iker Lecuona’s sliding RC16. Fortunately, Zarco escaped any serious injury.
The MotoGP race was mostly dull – I know, right? – with Marquez seizing both the win and the team championship/triple crown. He was pursued to the line, after Lap 8, by Quartararo and Miller. Zarco crashed out and, moments later, did another of his famed backflips, this time due to his having been submarined by a riderless KTM RC16 formerly occupied by Iker Lecuona. Somehow, both of Zarco’s legs weren’t broken, and he was seen afterwards sitting in the garage chatting with his crew, apparently no worse for wear. Fabio deservedly won the top independent rider and Rookie of the Year awards and has been promised a factory spec Yamaha M1 starting during Tuesday’s Valencia test.
Jorge Lorenzo
This year, as in many others, we (me and the voices in my head) cut a few corners to come up with a quote or saying that endeavors to capture the essence of an entire season of grand prix motorcycle racing, a fool’s errand if ever there were. Was. This year, however, the premier class season seemed like a replay, like we can now take Marc Marquez’ brilliance for granted. Six titles in seven campaigns. Ho hum.

One final lap for Jorge Lorenzo to wrap up his Grand Prix racing career.
For me, the story was the fall of Jorge Lorenzo. King of the World in 2015, done and dusted in 2019. The memorable, for some, line from the song “Bright Eyes” by Mike Batt goes like this:
“How can the light that burned so brightly suddenly burn so pale?”
My 2008 image is that of a 4th of July sparkler, so abrupt and dazzling at its ignition that it hurts the eyes before quickly going orange to gray to black. Lorenzo came up from the 250cc class and had the batteries to stick out his jaw at Valentino Fricking Rossi, one of the brightest stars in the firmament of MotoGP history, at the peak of his formidable powers. The competitive friction between the two forced the building of a temporary wall in the garage at each race venue. Lorenzo, lightning quick at 21 years old, spent two seasons sailing over handlebars as Rossi’s unwilling protégé before seizing his first premier class title in 2010. Casey Stoner beat him in 2011, but he won again in 2012. Marquez arrived like a fireball in 2013, but Lorenzo took advantage of a bad RC213V to win again, at age 28, in 2015.
Embed from Getty Imageswindow.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:’pWepWMYpTCpo2TWdrAp9fQ’,sig:’aoyo5RGE26nUYcakZUJLlTowGQGfV6J8gNq9jQ7_1Fw=’,w:’594px’,h:’323px’,items:’108306277′,caption: false ,tld:’ca’,is360: false })});//embed-cdn.gettyimages.com/widgets.js
Jorge Lorenzo won his first MotoGP title in 2010. He’s pictured here with that year’s Moto2 champion Toni Elias and Marc Marquez who won the 125cc class for his first world title.
He retires, scarred, battered and humbled, today. And that was that. Three premier class championships in six years. Today, 32 years old and crashing out on the back side of the apex of his career.
Lorenzo’s story illustrates how pride, of all the capital sins, is the root for the other six. It was Lorenzo’s pride that angered him about Yamaha’s apparent favoring of Rossi in bike development matters. It was Lorenzo’s pride that angered him about the whole Rossi merchandising and money machine, such that it drove him to switch teams and defect to Ducati for the 2017 season, to team up with Dovizioso. It was Lorenzo’s pride, in wanting to teach Rossi and Yamaha a lesson, that led to his professional demise today.
Embed from Getty Imageswindow.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:’S02QOVk0TQ5TsshlTQkOqg’,sig:’3lJeSBPUxQU_fXToNrg18CKQSCph16Aei5hcSK-kBbs=’,w:’594px’,h:’405px’,items:’873013248′,caption: false ,tld:’ca’,is360: false })});//embed-cdn.gettyimages.com/widgets.js
It took a while to get his footing at Ducati, but Jorge Lorenzo appeared to turn things around, winning three races and scoring four podiums in a six-race span midway through the 2018 season. His momentum was cut short by a cancelled British Grand Prix and a crash at Misano.
It was so important to Jorge Lorenzo that he be #1 that he would give a three-year clinic on how to fold a generally stellar career. Alien-grade career. His leap to Ducati in 2017 was a grievous error. The subsequent switch to Honda this year was irretrievable.
Had he not come up against perhaps the greatest rider of all time in 2013 he would likely have won a few more titles. My late mother used to insist that timing is the essence of success; it was Lorenzo’s bad luck to come up against Marc Marquez the same way it was Rossi’s bad luck to come up against Lorenzo. It is worse for Lorenzo because he was younger when it occurred.
Like him or not, we should be grateful for the memories he gave us as an Alien in MotoGP. He showed some class in knowing when it was time to walk away. No hard feelings, Jorge. As the Irish say:
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Exodus of the Aliens
Embed from Getty Imageswindow.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:’YH1ZIBlXTkVIpcpBl6f8EA’,sig:’zQMR5ZFBXL2iXnM8ZWxcWkZdAjU_hiCnayENM5IZ6ME=’,w:’594px’,h:’396px’,items:’1183022650′,caption: false ,tld:’ca’,is360: false })});//embed-cdn.gettyimages.com/widgets.js
Marc Marquez stands alone with no equal.
By this time next year, three of the original Aliens – Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo and probably Valentino Rossi – will have left the building. Under the reign of Honda ruler Marc Marquez the battle for #2 in the world will feature some new faces. Who will be the new Aliens?
The reality of The Marquez Era dictates that we adjust the format of the tranche “system” of rider rankings, as follows:
After Sepang:
Tranche 1: Marc Marquez Tranche 2: Andrea Dovizioso, Fabio Quartararo, Maverick Vinales, Jack Miller, Valentino Rossi, Franco Morbidelli Tranche 3: Cal Crutchlow, Pol Espargaro, Alex Rins, Joan Mir, Danilo Petrucci, Johann Zarco Tranche 4: Aleix Espargaro, Pecco Bagnaia, Miguel Oliveira, Mike Kallio Tranche 5: Jorge Lorenzo, Andrea Iannone, Karel Abraham, Hafizh Syahrin, Tito Rabat
After Valencia:
Alien: Marc Marquez Sub-Aliens: Dovizioso, Vinales, Quartararo, Miller Tranche 2: Rossi, Petrucci, Rins, Morbidelli, Pol Espargaro Tranche 3: Crutchlow, Mir, Oliveira, Zarco Tranche 4: Aleix Espargaro, Bagnaia, Kallio, Iannone Tranche 5: Lorenzo, Abraham, Rabat, Syahrin, (Nakagami)
Until Next Year
MO and I have agreed to try this all over again next year. I’m pretty sure the reason they keep me around is all the quality comments we’re able to kick off on DISQUS by being highly opinionated, reasonably articulate, and semi-informed. Moreover, the discussions are generally smart and respectful, rising above the usual BS found in online forums. Thus, it is you, the reader, that I thank for the success of this side hustle that puts me well into four figures annually of which I give the IRS roughly half.
Good thing I’m not doing this for the money. My deal with Evans is that Dennis is not allowed to edit the race previews, no matter how libelous they may be. So what this gig does not provide in remuneration it provides in private laughs. And it’s true for all the real writers at MO who are being asked to do more for less each year, the squeeze of the domestic motorcycle market being felt in many places. My only gripe is that they don’t take me to Italy with them for EICMA and a little comic relief. I could fetch their espressos for them.

See you next season!
I will try to interject some thoughts during the off-season at Late Braking MotoGP. I say this every year and rarely come through. With the late season drama at Repsol Honda there may be some news for a few more weeks. Otherwise, it continues to be a gas being the MotoGP Correspondent at Motorcycle.com. Maybe next year they’ll make me the MotoGP Editor. And send me a hat or something.
Again this year, thanks to our loyal readers and erstwhile commenters. You are the bomb.

Trail Tech Voyager Pro: An All-In Wonder for your Dual-Sport
Written by Carl Parker. Posted in Gear
As minimalist riders we love anything that simplifies our kit while at the same time increasing its utility. So, getting our hands on Trail Tech’s Voyager Pro was something to get excited about. The dash of many small dual-sport and dirt bikes lack basic information, like the tachometer we get on street-oriented bikes. Although some would argue against it, knowing how hard your engine is working is useful. Also, how about knowing where you’re going or have been? Is it possible to get both navigation and motorcycle information in a clean and compact interface?
Trail Tech has taken a good shot at that question with the introduction of the Voyager Pro which sports a massive list of upgrades from the previous Voyager. The most notable improvement is the color touch screen is wonderfully bright and visible even in direct sunlight. The touch screen works with gloves and the pages changed quickly, immediately settling annoyance of a slow interface. While riding, the displayed tracks are very easy to see and the map moves along without excessive lags or skipping.
Maps are free to download and available for a wide range of continents to install via a microSD card (not included). Both relief and topo maps are available depending on the type of map data you’re looking for. Although it doesn’t provide turn-by-turn navigation like a standard GPS, we reckon this’ll be mostly used for off-road riding. Although street-address friendly navigation would be appreciated, if turn-by-turn navigation increases the cost or complexity of the Voyager Pro, we’re just as happy without it.
Customizing your information has never been easier. Everything from map to stopwatch screens bring this wonder-dash into a new age of functionality. The user screen allows you to choose exactly what information you want—conveniences like this are currently only found on the most expensive flagship ADV bikes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition to the glove-friendly touch screen, we love that the Voyager Pro also has physical buttons to move through the many options. When the going gets rough, nothing can replace the positive tactile feel of a good physical button.
The downside of all this functionality is that the Voyager Pro consumes a fair amount of juice and will likely chew up your battery if left on overnight. There are options like having the system turn on when it detects certain activity, but we strongly recommend mounting this unit to a switched power supply. This means, however, that the unit will only charge while running.
Also, on top of the new features list is a hefty amount of Bluetooth integrations with your favorite Android or IOS smartphone. Connecting is painless and allows a ride-friendly interface to change tracks, and show incoming messages or calls. We don’t recommend handling complex communications while in the saddle, and not everyone will find these features useful, but if you do you’ll will find these features a genuine benefit.
More importantly, we wanted to see how well the Voyager Pro mounts to a bike. There was no more of a suitable bike in the ADVMoto garage than one of our project Yamaha WR250Rs. Like most dual-sports, the WR250R lacks a built-in tachometer which we were eager to get working with such a high revving thumper. To pick up the pulse information, a sensor wire had to be wrapped around the ignition coil without contacting the spark plug wiring itself. Relying on passive sensing seems like a great idea, but we had to see it work first.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Much of the unit worked flawlessly. The GPS status page started to find satellites and hone down on our position, and the screen was as easy to read standing still as in motion. Unfortunately, we had a bit of a trouble getting the tachometer to work—the readings were pegged all the time regardless of what Pulses Per Revolution (PPR) setting we chose. The best thing to do in a case like this is to call Trail Tech support. Much to their credit, we got an actual human being on the phone who said a new software patch was about to be released that allowed for more adjustment to the Tach Sensitivity setting. After applying the update, we saw a new option for low sensitivity and started playing around with the pulse per cycle settings. The displayed RPM range and red line can be set manually. We ultimately got it to work, but not perfectly. We had some erratic readings when initially starting the bike, however the gauge started to behave like a regular tachometer after the bike was moving.
Installing the wiring is the same as any electrical work you’d do on a bike, being careful about the routing is important and the provided harnesses are robust. The included L-shaped handlebar mount works well but will likely obscure your OEM gauge cluster. Mostly this means you won’t have visual access to idiot lights and turns signals. Thankfully, Trail Tech has recently introduced a Voyager Pro Indicator Dashboard which should alleviate some of these problems, albeit at additional cost. We’d recommend using a R.A.M. mount system as an alternative.
Ultimately, while we don’t currentl¬¬y rely on the tachometer for serious work like tuning, everything else works as expected, and then some. The Voyager Pro has more features than you can shake a stick at, and many are not covered here including the Buddy Tracking feature which we will discuss on the ADVMoto website. For a device of this complexity, Trail Tech did a wonderful job getting this done right off the bat and has become a welcome upgrade to an already great bike. TrailTech.net MSRP: $600
PROS:
• Clear easy to read screen and tracks • Intuitive menu navigating system • Love having physical buttons • Massive information center • Bluetooth device friendly
CONS:
• Pricey but worth it if you want all the functions in one device • Power hungry • Included bar mount will likely obscure your dual-sport’s OEM gauge/light cluster (unless you get the new Indicator dashboard) • Swapping for stainless screws would be a nice touch • Missing turn-by-turn navigation

Ford Mustang Mach-E Pre-Order Books Now Open, Starts At $43,895
Deliveries will kick off late next year.
You can now put down a reservation for the Ford Mustang Mach-E, but there’s a little catch. At this point, you can only place a $500 deposit for the limited First Edition model, which has a starting price of $59,900, or the Premium model, which starts at $50,600. Both will be delivered to customers in late 2020. The actual base price of the all-electric crossover is significantly lower, but we’ll get to that later. First, let’s take a look at the car you are actually able to reserve today.
The Mustang Mach-E First Edition comes nicely loaded with features such as red brake calipers, sports pedals with metallic covers, scuff plates marked ‘First Edition,’ and contrasting stitching for the seats. The launch variant of the EV is available exclusively with the optional extended-range battery and all-wheel-drive with an estimated range of up to 270 miles (435 kilometers) between charges.
So Much More Mach-E News:
Getting back to the entry-level Mustang Mach-E, it will come with a starting price of $43,895 but deliveries won’t begin before the first months of 2021. This so-called Select trim will come standard with LED headlights and taillights, wireless phone charging, a satellite navigation system, and Ford’s CoPilot 360 and 360 Assist 2.0 families of safety and assist systems.
Just above the Select model will be the Mustang Mach-E Premium, which will set you back at least $50,600. Customer deliveries for this grade are slated to begin late next year and you’ll be able to choose from both the standard and ER battery packs, in both RWD and AWD flavors.
Gallery: 2020 Ford Mustang Mach-E
Tumblr media
Next is the California Route 1, which is an RWD-only model with the ER battery and a starting price of $52,400. It will begin reaching customers in early 2021. Finally, the range-topping Mustang Mach-E GT will arrive at about the same time, starting at $60,500 and offering a 250-mile (402-km) range and an estimated 0-60 mph (0-96 kph) time of under four seconds.
It’s important to note that all prices are before destination, and before any federal and state discounts that might be available. Fortunately for Ford, its all-electric models are still eligible to receive the federal government’s full $7,500 tax credit. All Mustang Mach-E models also have an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty on the battery. Visit this site for more pricing and ordering details.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Videos Show The Electric SUV In Detail
Get up close and personal with the electric SUV carrying an iconic moniker.
Say what you will about Ford’s bold decision to use the “Mustang” nameplate for an SUV, but there’s no denying the Mach-E carries design traits inspired by the sports cars. The Blue Oval has released some footage allowing us to get to know better its completely new EV that aims to go up against Tesla’s forthcoming Model Y. Aside from putting the spotlight on the design, we can also briefly see how the vehicle behaves in a brief acceleration test.
While the exterior takes the pony car’s styling cues and adapts them to the SUV shape, the cabin is a completely new development with the focal point being the giant touchscreen display. Measuring a whopping 15.5 inches, the display is one of the largest in the business and uses a next-generation infotainment system to accentuate this is truly a completely new vehicle from Ford.
We get to see a prototype of the Mustang Mach-E in the Premium Edition guise swiftly accelerating from a standstill to 70 mph (112 km/h). The fastest of the bunch will be a GT Performance Edition able to do the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in the mid-3-second-range thanks to a more than generous output of 459 horsepower (342 kilowatts) and 612 pound-feet (830 Newton-meters) of torque.
All About The Mustang Of EVs:
Much like the Mustang we all know and appreciate, its SUV counterpart is going to be available with a rear-wheel-drive layout, but people will also be able to get the Mach-E with AWD. At least 300 of EPA-rated miles are being promised for the version with the highest range, which should be enough for most people.
It remains to be seen how people will react to Ford’s decision to associate Mustang with an SUV, but there’s no denying the Mach-E seems promising, at least on paper. It further goes to show more and more automakers – not just luxury brands – are ready for the EV era and Ford is just getting started with its zero-emissions agenda.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Shelb-E Renderings Predict The Inevitable
Shelby all the things!
Is this really inevitable? Possibly, but before the Shelby fans of the world send us hate mail over these GT500-esque renderings of the new Mustang Mach-E, let us revisit some Shelby history. Yes, the iconic stripes and branding are synonymous with the Mustang, but these days you can also get a Shelby F-150 pickup and once upon a time, Shelby badges adorned turbocharged front-wheel-drive Dodge hatchbacks in the 1980s. In the grand scheme of things, then, a Shelby-branded electric crossover might not be so bad.
The Mach-E Is Here:
Actually, we’re rather impressed with the way these renderings came out. It’s not like the Mach-E is completely unrelated to the Mustang, so dialing in some GT500 flavor is easy peasy. The squared-off front clip is a good look for this EV crossover, and yes, we’re well aware that a power bulge hood on an electric car makes as much sense as a vegan crocodile. It still looks cool though, and in this instance, the extra space can offer a bit more frunk storage as opposed to clearance for a non-existant supercharger.
Gallery: Ford Mustang Shelb-E Renderings
Tumblr media
As for performance, Ford already has a GT model of the Mach-E planned for 2021 that will rival the current Shelby GT500, at least in a sprint to 60 mph. The 760-horsepower muscle car gets there in 3.3 seconds, while the Mach-E GT is shooting for a time in the mid-3-second range. Juicing the battery for a proposed Ford Shelb-E model could see this crossover cut a full second off that time. Would you feel better about a Shelby-branded electric SUV that could hit 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and rip a 10-second quarter-mile?
Would The Real Shelby Please Stand Up:
Admittedly, this Shelb-E creation is just a flight-of-fancy on our part but it could well preview the future of performance. Electric power is here to stay, and there’s no denying the performance potential of instant thrust with right now torque that electricity can offer. So why not add some stripes and a Shelby badge and just have some fun?
After all, it worked for the Dodge Omni.

Church of MO: 2009 Triumph Bonneville
Ten years ago the Bonneville turned 50. Should Triumph get to celebrate these milestones, even though it’s the reincarnation of the deceased original? The answer is of course it should: Resurrecting a dead thing from the ashes is the sincerest form of corporate loyalty. Such a quaint concept. Render unto Bloor what is Bloor’s.
2009 Triumph Bonneville Review
Fun at 50!
By Pete Brissette Apr. 02, 2009
Photos by Riles and Nelson
One definition of an icon is something that is an important, enduring symbol. In the motorcycle universe, few machines fit that definition as well – but not necessarily better – than the Triumph Bonneville. Another definition of an icon is a person who is “the object of great attention and devotion.” Indeed, many fans of Triumph love their Bonnies so much as to personify the machine, pay homage to it and worship at the alter of the British Twin. The Bonneville struck a chord with riders when it was introduced in 1959 as the T120 – essentially a twin-carb version of the T110 Tiger – and it remained a constant in the line-up until Triumph’s closure in 1983. In 2000, just 10 years after the marquee Brit brand was resurrected by John Bloor, the irrepressible Twin rose from the ashes, and today celebrates 50 years as Triumph model.
2009 Triumph Bonneville SE. Happy 50th Bonnie!
The original Bonnie received pivotal updates and enhancements in 1969; key among them was improved carburetion. Like its 1969 ancestor, the 2009 Bonneville has received a major update where petrol mixes with air. Instead of improved carbs, EFI is the name of the game. Fuel-injection is now standard across the entire line of what Triumph calls the Modern Classics: all three versions of the Bonneville, as well as the Thruxton and Scrambler.
Carb Foolery
There’s no gasolina swishing around in the float bowls of those Keihin “carbs,” just wires and microchips.
Fuel injection on the Modern Classics was made available for Europe in late 2007 as early release ’08 models according to Triumph staff, and the driving force for its implementation is greening up. The Keihin/Triumph EFI collaboration resulted in a system that’s allegedly five times cleaner burning and more fuel efficient than carbs.
That’s nice ‘n’ all for the trees and fishes, but what’s most interesting is how Keihin hides virtually every component of the fuel injection system within what is, by all outward appearances, a pair of basic-looking constant velocity carburetors. Only upon close inspection can you notice a couple of suspicious wires and electrical connectors.
These new carbs… er, um… injectors feed the 865cc (90 x 68mm), DOHC, air-cooled Parallel Twin that powers all the Modern Classics. On all three Bonnevilles claimed output is 67 hp at 7,500 rpm and 51 ft-lbs at 5,800 rpm while the modern café racer Thruxton produces 69 hp at 7,400 rpm and 52 ft-lbs at 6,800 rpm. In the Scrambler, the Twin fires at 270 degrees (360 on Bonnies and Thruxton) for a more unique exhaust note, and churns out 59 hp at 6,800 rpm with 51 ft-lbs coming in much lower at 4,700 rpm.
The T100, introduced in 2001 in honor of 100 years of Triumph, remains in the ’09 line as the version that harkens most clearly to 1960s Bonnies, which according to Triumph North America’s Jim Callahan, appeals to riders who still appreciate and identify – or want to identify – with the original Bonnevilles. It’s largely unchanged from 2008 save for the aforementioned EFI.
The T100 still rolls on spoke wheels and continues use of a 19-inch front wheel. This old schooler also touts chrome engine cases, two-tone paint, a seat incorporating the Triumph logo, fuel tank with Triumph badge and rubber knee pads just like days of yore, fork gators, “peashooter” exhaust and tachometer. The 2009 T100 retails for $8,799 and is available in color schemes Jet Black/Fusion White, Claret/Aluminum or Forest Green/New England White.
The Bonneville SE headlines the collection of Triumph Modern Classics.
The new old kids on the block
Like last year, the current Bonneville line consists of three models, but this year two of three are distinctly different. The more basic Bonneville and snazzier Bonneville SE now have cast-aluminum17-inch wheels front and rear, and borrow the Thruxton’s shorter front fender as well as its exhaust. The new wheels and fender save over 18 pounds according to Triumph.
A lower seat height (29.1” v 30.5”) is achieved by use of the smaller diameter front wheel, reduced rear suspension travel (100 v 106mm) and a seat roughly 10mm thinner. Other ergo changes include handlebars 22mm closer, 21mm lower, and diameter reduced from 25.4 to 22mm. Mirrors moved more outward (35mm per side) for improved visibility, clutch and brake levers are adjustable and the front brake master cylinder is now a separate unit rather than integrated.
The Bonneville has black engine case covers, speedo with basic warning lamps, comes in Jet Black or Fusion White and retails for $7,699. The $8,399 Bonneville SE tarts things up with satin finish engine cases, speedo/tach combo like the T100, Triumph tank badge, and two-tone fuel tank paint with hand-applied pin-stripe on the Pacific Blue/Fusion White color scheme. A more basic Jet Black color scheme is also available.
The new Bonneville family. The T100 is flanked by the SE on the left and basic Bonneville on the right. Both the Bonneville and SE receive cast-aluminum 17-inch wheels, lower seat and closer handlebars.
New Bonnies for a new generation
Callahan explains that the new models were introduced to attract a different buyer than those interested in the Bonneville T100. The new Bonnies still offer much in the way of nostalgia, but also strike a sleeker, slightly modern stance. The updated look and tighter ergos reach out to a younger crowd while at the same time welcoming the expanding U.S. female rider demographic, and/or altogether new rider.
Hop from the T100 to the new bikes and the lower seat and closer handlebar should be evident even to the rookie. The new Bonnies genuinely feel like smaller bikes: Putting both feet flat at a stop is effortless, and even if you’ve an inseam less than 30 inches, the now narrower front portion of the one-piece saddle should make getting a foot down easier. Despite the shorter height, seat-to-peg relation never occurred to me as cramped, however, riders approaching 6 feet tall may feel differently. Reach to the bars is easy and natural.
Basic Bonneville receives a speedo, while the T100 and SE get added tach.
The famous Triumph parallel Twin that provides smooth, ample power. Satin finish engine cases are part of up-spec SE package.
Immediately noticeable is neutral handling belying a claimed dry weight of 441 lbs. A lower center of gravity – thanks largely to the new 17-inch front wheel – should instill confidence in the new or returning rider. The smaller diameter front wheel and overall lighter wheels/fender combo pay dividends in quick, light steering. The new Bonneville and Bonneville SE are simply friendlier handling bikes compared to the heavier steering T100 with its 19-inch front wheel and additional 10 lbs weight penalty.
The thinner seat and shortened rear suspension travel make themselves known over rough pavement – particularly steep-angled bumps – with a sharp jolt now and then. The non-adjustable 41mm Kayaba fork with 4.7 inches of travel, and basic Kayaba preload adjustable dual coil-over spring shocks work well, but don’t expect a pillowy ride. Swapping out rides between the new models and the T100 with its identical suspension with 6mm more rear travel and thicker seat foam reveals a little more forgiveness from the nostalgic T100. Crummy pavement aside, the new Bonnevilles’ ride comfort is commendable, and decent overall chassis stability further builds rider confidence.
Though modernized with fuel-injection, any Modern Classic I rode was a tad cold-blooded, even with the mild temps we experienced during the press ride in the New Orleans area. Pulling out the enriching knob (think old school choke) on the left side of the faux carbs got the engine burbling, and within a couple minutes the bike was ready to ride.
Lots of accessories are available for the Bonnevilles, like the leather saddlebags and seat back seen here on the SE model.
Throttle response was very good save for what I perceived as some minor abruptness from closed to open throttle, though most noticeable just off idle. Some drive-line lash may have also contributed to this sensation. Otherwise, power is plentiful – even in top-gear for overtaking on the freeway. The engine spools up in a remarkably linear pattern, precisely what many new riders need. But even if you’re a salty vet like me, a smooth engine and predictable throttle response are always appreciated.
Clutch lever effort is light, and the 5-speed gear box rivals many refined Japanese machines for transparency and positive engagement. Click ‘n’ go! The brakes are another high-scoring component. The 2-piston sliding-pin Nissin front caliper grabs a single 310mm disc with authority and excellent feel; performance not usually experienced on such a basic brake, only on better 4-piston units.
Welcome to the future… at 50!
At the end of the day I came away with a single thought that encompassed my entire experience aboard the kinder, gentler Bonnies: nice bike! The new Bonnevilles brought me back to a place where riding for the sake of riding is simple fun. Assessed in whole, there’s little to find fault with in the 2009 Bonneville and Bonneville SE.
Old and new at the same time, the Bonneville is always a great looking motorcycle, even at 50.
Experienced riders will appreciate having the venerated Triumph name, sans oil leaks and wonky electrics of old, in the form of any of the Bonnies. And new, short-stature or women riders have a very classy and exceptionally welcoming alternative to offerings from Japan and the U.S.

Cadillac Dead Last In Consumer Reports’ Reliability Study
Meanwhile, three Japanese automakers top the list.
The result of the Consumer Reports’ annual auto reliability brand rankings is out, and with it comes a piece of disappointing news for Cadillac – it still sits at the bottom of the nonprofit organization’s list of most reliable cars for 2019.
With only three models offered, Caddy is the 30th most reliable automaker in the U.S., just below Alfa Romeo and Acura. Among the cars it offers, the XT4 stands as the least reliable, while the XT5 is its most reliable model.
Gallery: 2020 Cadillac XT4: Review
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Alfa Romeo sits right above Cadillac in terms of reliability, with the Giulia as its least reliable, according to Consumer Reports. Shockingly, Acura joins the bottom three this year, dropping nine places from last year. This is the biggest drop in this year’s survey, with the refreshed MDX taking the spot as Acura’s least reliable model.
On the other end of the spectrum, the most reliable cars according to Consumer Reports’ survey are Japanese automakers. Lexus leads the charge this year, up by two places from last year’s result. Mazda also climbed up by two places this year, taking the second spot with the Mazda MX-5 Miata as its most reliable car. Of course, Lexus’ parent company, Toyota, is still at the top three despite losing its top position last year for its luxury arm.
Consumer Reports Has A Lot To Say About Cars:
In case you’re wondering, Consumer Reports conducts its reliability survey annually, with the data obtained from the answers of Consumer Reports members. There are over 420,000 responses received on its latest survey, with car model years ranging from 2000 to 2019, as well as some 2020 models.

Wrecked 2020 Chevy Corvette Convertible Spotted At The Factory
Well, what do we have here?
We’ve had a first look at the 2020 Chevy Corvette Convertible back in October. It was a sublime feeling, as this is the first-ever retractable hardtop Corvette, and on a mid-engined ‘Vette at that. It differs a lot from the non-convertible Corvette C8 in terms of aesthetics but ultimately, it’s the same sports car – just with the capability to retract its roof in 16 seconds as long as you’re running up to 30 miles per hour.
However, this video uploaded by Drive 615 on Youtube shows a different version of the topless Corvette.
Gallery: 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Configurator
Tumblr media
The uploader has spotted a wrecked 2020 Corvette Convertible at the back of the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. That wasn’t the uploader’s initial mission, though, as he initially wanted to spot a Corvette C8 in Accelerate Yellow. Instead, this totaled prototype of the Convertible C8 surfaced.
It’s hard to decipher what exactly happened to the wrecked prototype. Based on the video, however, you could see that the airbags have been deployed, plus one of the wheels was missing. With that, we can say that the roofless prototype met an accident while doing further tests.
Everything About The Topless Corvette C8:
There’s a handful of things we know about the topless Corvette. Chevy considered using a fabric roof for it but the company scrapped the idea because “the C7 Convertible wasn’t cool.” Moreover, the Convertible Corvette only weighs 80 pounds heavier than the coupe version, which is quite negligible.
Production of the Corvette Convertible is scheduled to start late this year, with right-hand versions slated to be available on a later date. Chevrolet says that the retractable roof version will only be $7,500 more than the coupe version, which should be around $67,000.

This Guy Added Rear Keyless Entry To A 2019 VW Golf R
An elegant solution to a simple problem.
Let’s face it; sometimes we buy a brand new car based solely on all the little stuff that’s added to a specific trim or equipment package. I mean, who doesn’t want Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, or even cooling and heating front seats? It’s the little things that can make us spend that extra bit more on a specific vehicle, even if getting the top spec means it’s price is already getting dangerously close to a larger basic spec car. Heck, when I was shopping for a car, I specifically wanted LED headlights and keyless entry. Those two things alone made sure I went for one of the most expensive subcompact cars as a city runabout. But what happens when you think you have it all, only to find out that other markets that sell your same vehicle have that extra bit of convenience that you crave? Well, you find out a way to do it yourself. That’s exactly what HumbleMechanic set out to do with his recently acquired Volkswagen Golf R.
Gallery: 2018 Volkswagen Golf R: Review
Tumblr media
You see, there will be times that you want your keyless entry to go even further; unlocking the front doors and trunk are good, but what about the rear doors? There are times when our hands are full and we need to store stuff in the car, but not necessarily need the trunk, right? In HumbleMechanic’s Golf R, the rear doors do not have a sensor that detects the hand of the user, but the Volkswagen Atlas does. Out of pure laziness, as he puts it, he went out to rectify this problem by providing an informative video guide, comprised of a ton of research and tinkering.  The goal is to retrofit the rear door sensors from the Atlas to the Golf. Heck, he even made his own harnesses to plug into the car’s junctions, so it really isn’t a plug-and-play thing you can order online.
A Little Elbow Grease Or A Drop-In Kit?
It’s a rather long, but very informative video, and having to go into so much detail is pretty mesmerizing. There’s so much you can learn with a few manuals, forums, and part numbers.

Acura Plans To Reveal PMC Edition MDX At LA Auto Show
A hand-built SUV worthy of a supercar paint job.
This week Acura introduced their range-topping PMC Edition MDX SUV. The MDX PMC is limited to a total of 330 units which are hand-built at Acura’s NSX Supercar factory. This special edition MDX follows on the heels of TLX PMC which enjoyed a similar treatment.
In order to meet demand and keep costs low, there are not a lot of cars on the market that you could call hand-built. Handbuilt cars are usually supercars or ultra-luxury cars, not an Acura SUV. But spring for the MDX PMC Edition, which Acura claims will list around the mid $60,000 range, and you could own an SUV that is handbuilt by the same skilled craftsman who builds the NSX Supercar.
Gallery: Acura Plans To Reveal PMC Edition MDX At LA Auto Show
Tumblr media
In addition to the limited production numbers and handbuilt construction, the MDX PMC is painted in the NSX’s Valencia Red Pearl paint. This luscious paint job is the best paint job ever offered on an Acura product which requires extra care during application that is simply not available for a normal MDX.
The MDX PMC Edition uses a 3.5-liter direct-injected V6 engine which produces 290 peak horsepower and 267 lb.-ft. Torque. This well-tested V6 is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and Acura’s torque-vectoring Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system.
Top LA Auto Show news
The MDX PMC Edition combines the A-Spec package and Advanced package which adds all the features you’d want on a range-topping SUV. The more aggressive styling and firmer suspension of the A-Spec give the MDX PMC more character, while the Advanced package gives drivers the latest electronics offered by Acura.
The PMC Edition MDX will go through the same quality inspection as the NSX supercar which includes dyno testing. Once the MDX PMC Editions are signed off they are shipped to Acura dealers in special car cover designed to keep the paint safe.

KFC Opens Drive Thru-Only Restaurant In Australia
Australia invents the world’s most innovative drive-thru.
KFC opened a drive-thru only restaurant Australia that’s set to take fast food in the future. Thanks to a clever order-ahead app and a plethora of drive-thru stables KFC is feeding Australian chicken lovers at a record pace.
As an American, it’s very shocking to see another country innovate on the beloved drive-thru. I was under the impression that drive-thru technology was at its peak in the old USA but it appears the Australians have changed the game. There’s even a Tesla Model X owner enjoying a meal at this new-age KFC.
Gallery: KFC Opens Drive Thru-Only Restaurant In Australia
Tumblr media
There’s no seating and more importantly no long single file lines at KFC’s new innovative fast food destination. Customers can simply use the KFC app to order or use a traditional fast food sign which is available for those who prefer to order in person.
KFC launched its pilot drive-thru only location in Newcastle, New South Wales Australia with a second location planned in just on the border into South Australia. The Newcastle location features 5 stalls rather than a single file line like a traditional drive-thru. This allows for the faster distribution of chicken and happier customers.
Top road trip reads
In an interview with LADbible, KFC’s Chief Development Officer at KFC Australia, Inara Gravitis explained “We are continually looking for ways to offer our customers even faster and more convenient ordering. KFC is committed to investing in technology and innovative restaurant designs. – so a delicious Kentucky Fried Chicken meal is only a click away! Since launching the app in 2013, it’s been downloaded more than 1.3 million times, making our customers’ ordering experience as customizable, convenient and time-saving as possible.”
Will this impressive new technology make its way to America and KFC loving countries around the world? Only time will tell, but based on this initial success, it looks very likely that the world of drive-thrus is ready for a paradigm shift led by KFC.

Zedro Notorious Is A Wild Infiniti G37 Available With Up To 1,250 HP
Zedro Motors builds a custom body for the Infiniti bones, and flavors range from mild to wild.
Say hello to the Zedro Notorious. Yes, that’s the proper name for this rather chunky machine but if the name – or the automaker – are unfamiliar to you, don’t worry. Zedro is a new Lebanese company based in the UAE that, per its website, has a goal to “create a comfortable, convenient, and reliable exotic car.” We aren’t sure a name like Notorious fits that image, but the car is presently on display at the Dubai Motor Show, and according to Top Gear, five units of a planned production run of 100 are already sold.
Big Power In Unfamilar Packages:
Since we mention 1,250 horsepower in the headline, you’re probably curious as to what’s underneath the skin of this newcomer. Actually, it uses the bones of an Infiniti G37, including the car’s V6 engine. That’s where the reliability factor of the equation allegedly comes in, as even the cockpit is Infiniti spec. This is at odds with everything we know about Infiniti since a factory-built 1,250-hp V6 never existed, but that’s where Zedro seeks to be an all-in-one provider of cool cars.
The company can implement all sorts of custom upgrades to the Notorious, and that includes a range-topping model with a bonkers twin-turbo version of Infiniti’s V6 and an estimated 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 3.4 seconds. If you seek reliability, however, the starter model with a more modest acceleration sprint of 5.2 seconds (which sounds like a stock 3.7-liter Infiniti V6 to us) is probably the best choice.

Tumblr media
Zedro obviously builds the body, which can be made of fiberglass or carbon fiber in high-level models. On its website, Zedro says customization options include everything from the interior material to special wheels, headlights, and taillights of the customer’s choosing. Indeed, the company pledges that each Notorious will be unique in some manner. And since it’s really an Infiniti G37 underneath, it will be titled as such. That should be convenient for registering the car, not to mention getting insurance. Sure pal, it’s just an Infiniti.
Zedro doesn’t offer any mention of cost for the Notorious, but Top Gear pegs the price at around $65,000. Presumably, that’s a starting price because a 1,250-hp carbon fiber supercar for that coin would be absolutely astounding, and frankly, a bit worrying. Availabilabiliy isn’t known either, but the company does invite questions for interested buyers through its website, which you can hit at the source link below.

2020 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge First Drive Review: Dark Horse
Given Rolls-Royce’s 115-year history, you’d think the company would be almost immune to change. And yes, in a lot of ways the brand’s long tenure as the pinnacle of luxury auto manufacturing goes without competition. But even century-old Rolls-Royce knows that flexibility breeds success, and that’s sort of how the Black Badge models came about.
The Black Badge Dawn, Wraith, and Ghost give the brand’s growing number of younger clients more choices. Millionaire millennials (read: athletes, actors, and musicians) want hipper style and extra power to pair with that signature Rolls-Royce exclusivity, and that’s exactly what they get when buying a Black Badge. And now the trio grows by one.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge is peak posh in all the right ways. It is, inarguably, one of the most luxurious SUVs money can buy. But what’s even more impressive is that while the Cullinan Black Badge maintains the same levels of quality and exclusivity you expect of a Rolls-Royce Cullinan – only now packaged a bit prettier – it’s one of the few available options that’s just as thrilling from the driver’s seat.
Less Is More
Blink and you might miss the Cullinan Black Badge’s new visual cues. They’re not very noticeable at first glance. But look closer. Keen eyes will distinguish the darkened grille, trim pieces, and Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, all of which wear a new high-gloss black chrome chemical finish. Rolls-Royce says the process to create these darkened trim pieces is difficult and painstaking, but necessary to prevent long-term scratching or chipping. We expect nothing less from a company so dedicated to distinctiveness.
The wheels are unique to this trim, too. They almost look like little “Cs” for Cullinan. The 22-inch units wrap around painted brake calipers (a factory first for the brand), which you can get in any color… as long as that color is red. The Cullinan Black Badge is a subtle, stylish improvement to a vehicle that’s already extremely impressive to look at.
Inside is much of the same. Small upgrades over the standard Cullinan make all the difference. A “Technical Fiber” (RR speak for fancy carbon fiber) trim comes standard, and it covers most of the dash and center console, creating a 3D effect. The new Forge Yellow leather, meanwhile, looks exceptional alongside traditional black accents. But the piece de resistance lies above you.
Believe it or not, this is the first Cullinan with Rolls-Royce’s signature “Starlight Headliner.” And it’s even better here. Not only does it consist of 1,344 individual fiber optic cables, and is wholly customizable (you can select any star pattern from any place or point in time), but it also comes with a new “shooting star” feature. Press a button and a stream of light shoots across the artificial sky. If there’s anything more absurdly luxurious, though insanely cool, we haven’t seen it.
Serious Skills
The Cullinan Black Badge uses the same colossal 6.7-liter V12 found in the base model. Had you thought this was a monstrous unit prior (with 563 horses and 627 pound-feet), it now produces 600 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Credit a reflashed ECU for the improvement. Rolls-Royce doesn’t bother to list the time it takes to reach 60 miles per hour or a top speed (because who cares), but this SUV feels noticeably quicker than its 563-hp sibling from behind the wheel.
Power delivery gets an uptick. In “Low” mode (Rolls-Royce’s version of Sport), the remapped throttle and touchier gas pedal help unleash that massive V12’s strengths in a way the base model doesn’t. The Black Badge Cullinan takes far less prodding to get up to speed; the eagerness with which this 6,069-pound mobile penthouse moves in a straight line is awe-inspiring. And it stops just as well, thanks to new brake discs and reduced pedal travel. The best part is, there’s a burbly but subtle exhaust note that emanates from the rear, which is extremely fun to hear from a Rolls-Royce.
The more-aggressive shift pattern from the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission puts the V12’s newfound power to use exceptionally well. The gearbox is still seamless in the way it shifts, as it is in the base Cullinan, but now it holds revs longer, allows for more torque down low thanks to shorter gearing, and generally knows exactly what to do on its own. Rolls-Royce scoffs at the thought of something so garish as steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. This is still a Cullinan, after all.
The Black Badge Cullinan takes far less prodding to get up to speed.
The Cullinan remains averse to canyon carving, even with its new sporty designation. But the Black Badge model feels more majestic in the way it moves. The firmer air suspension gives better feedback and more responsiveness, while the heavier steering and quicker ratio improve turn-in abilities. Yes, the body of the Cullinan Black Badge still moves, but it does so now with a bit more confidence and predictability.
But don’t be brash in thinking those performance upgrades contribute to a less-comfortable ride. The Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge is still a car comfortable-enough to be driven in. Even post upgrades, it remains one of the poshest, quietest, and smoothest vehicles on planet Earth – only now you’ll have more fun behind the wheel. Even with our co-driver pushing it in the bends, the La-Z-Boy-esque front buckets coddle us, and the “Immersive” rear seating setup – which swaps the standard bench for two seats and a center console – do the same for second-row passengers.
Our tester wears the polarizing new Forge Yellow-and-black leather with a fluffy, matching yellow carpet. We love the injection of color in the cabin, honestly, but we understand the mustard hue might not be suitable for all tastes. Thankfully, as with any Rolls-Royce, the Cullinan Black Badge is highly customizable, both inside and out.
Pay The Piper
There’s no way to soften this: the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge costs $382,000, and our tester tops out at more than $440,000. That’s a lot. But to prospective Cullinan owners, all of whom have likely already ordered theirs anyway, the additional cost of the Black Badge model is inconsequential. To us, it’s like McDonald’s upping their Dollar Menu by 50 cents. Chump change, relatively speaking.
But the improvements the given to the Black Badge over the standard model are worthy enough to justify even the most outrageous cost. The Black Badge model is prettier, posher, and definitely quicker, but still maintains the same borderline-obsessive comfort and capability levels you expect of a Rolls-Royce. It’s so good, in fact, we question why anyone might still consider a base Cullinan knowing that this one exists.

2021 Audi Q5 Caught Playing In The Snow
This is a minor update.
The current-generation Audi Q5 debuted for the 2018 model year, ushering in a modern design and the latest technologies. Less than a year later, and Audi is already preparing the Q5’s mid-cycle refresh, and we have new spy photos showing the crossover tackling Arctic snow for the first time.
Even More Audi Q5 Spy Photos:
The new Audi wears the same camouflage as we’ve seen before, covering the front and rear clips, and the side skirts. The most significant changes are up front, where the Q5 borrows a bit from the larger Q7. The 2021 Q5 will feature a prominent grille and headlights that appear to have a new internal design with a metal strake running through them. At the rear, the camouflage suggests Audi will restyle the Q5’s flanks. The bumper and exhaust also appear updated as does the LED taillights.
While these new batch of spy photos fail to show the interior, earlier spy photos do. However, as this is a mid-cycle refresh, the interior will get a modest update. The dash-mounted touchscreen could grow to 10.1 inches, and there could be updates to Audi’s MMI infotainment system. Other changes aren’t expected, but there could be some color and trim updates.
Gallery: 2021 Audi Q5
Tumblr media
There’s no word on any powertrain changes coming; however, considering this is a mid-cycle refresh and not a new generation, the current engines should carry over unchanged. There is the possibility Audi could offer a longer-range, plug-in hybrid variant, though there’s no word from the German automaker.
It’s a bit strange to see an automaker updating a new model, but the new Q5 probably won’t debut until sometime next year before going on sale for the 2021 model year. There’s also a good chance Audi wants to keep the Q5 feeling fresh in its competitive segment. It competes against the BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC.

Luxury Models From Several Auomakers Getting Big Holiday Discounts
Tumblr media
Depending on where you go, the savings could reach $15,000.
Black Friday. Bargain hunters love it, retail workers hate it, but it’s never the less a day where just about everything has a discount. We’ve already seen some automaker-specific deals outlined by the folks at CarsDirect, but today’s report covers a gauntlet of luxury-car incentives from virtually every corner of the globe. Specifics can obviously vary depending on location and the always-present fine-print associated with year-end deals, but this overview can help point your car-buying decision process in the right direction.
Discounts Galore:
We’ll start in Germany, where BMW is set to offer price discounts and better lease deals on just about every crossover in the company’s lineup. Lease specifics aren’t spelled out, but crossovers will get $2,000 to $2,500 price discounts and special finance rates. In addition, some models offer an additional $1,000 bonus if you own a competitor’s vehicle. Speaking of which, Mercedes-Benz is dropping up to $15,000 in dealer cash for discounts on the 2019 S-Class, though admittedly it’s a rather pricey model to start with. Other models like the GLC-Class are eligible for low finance rates and payment waivers.
Meanwhile in Japan, Acura will dish up $9,200 in lease incentives for the 2020 TLX and $5,000 in dealer cash on select models. Lexus isn’t throwing a bunch of cash on the table, but the company will finance every 2019 model at zero percent for five years. Jumping to the U.K., Jaguar is apparently desperate to move its XF sedan because $13,000 in purchase incentives or $14,550 in lease incentives are available. The base model Jaguar F-Type also gets its lease rate cut to $499 per month, depending on down payment, term, and mileage of course.
Not Everything Is Cheaper:
As for America, right now the primary luxury deal comes from Buick. Well-equipped 2019 Enclave models can see discounts top $11,000. 2019 Encore buyers can choose between zero-percent financing for six years or 22 percent off the sticker price.
Since we’re still a couple of weeks out from the busiest shopping day of the year, more automaker discounts are certainly possible.

Nico Rosberg Drag Races McLaren Senna Against 720S
Which car will prevail?
It’s no surprise that the McLaren Senna and McLaren 720S are both incredibly capable machines. That said, which one is the fastest? Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg stopped wondering and put the two beasts against each other in an outright drag race at the Dubai Autodrome.
While the McLaren 720S is mighty impressive, the Senna is a different beast. The Senna’s party piece is the massive amount of downforce (over 1,700 pounds at 155 miles per hour) it produces. Along with its semi-slick tires, it is the embodiment of the “race car with number plates” badge.
Meanwhile, the 720S is still a very capable package. It may not have anywhere near the amount of downforce or mechanical grip as the Senna, but it can still boogie. 710 horsepower (529 kilowatts) in a car weighing 2,914 pounds (1,322 kilograms) is mightily impressive.
More Fast McLarens:
Surprisingly, the Senna (piloted by Rosberg) lost the first drag race. After some thought about the result, Rosberg realized that the semi-slick tires on the Senna needed to be much hotter to grip the tarmac properly.
The F1 world champion proceeded to get optimal temperature into the Senna’s tires before the next run. After a couple of donuts and hard accelerations the tires were piping hot and he was ready for the off. Unsurprisingly, in the second drag race the tires hooked up at the start and the Senna took the win.
Tumblr media
Following the drag races, Rosberg proceeded to do some hot laps in both the Senna and 720S. Starting with the Senna, he was blown away by the amount of grip and braking performance that it produced. He couldn’t stop referring to it as a race-car-like experience. The world champion even went to describe its rear end grip as “unreal”.
After piloting the Senna, Rosberg was still wowed by the 720S. Like the Senna, he was most impressed by the braking performance. Active aerodynamics play a big role in giving both cars their gravity-defying deceleration. Although the 720S didn’t have the race-car-like front end grip of the Senna, Rosberg was still impressed with its performance through the corners.
In the end, the McLaren Senna was roughly four seconds quicker than the 720S. With the 720S being on road tires, its performance is nothing short of remarkable. We’d love to see a second video with identical tires on both cars.
