"I have," Nezetta answered with a quick nod. She followed the pair closely but so much so that she could be concidered anything other than a companion. The quick nature of rumors was something she knew well.
"And you?" she asked in return. Nezetta spent most of her days with the Duke's children but not so much with Cassemir himself.

Nezetta dipped her head in a single, polite nod. Despite the kindness of the house Desmarais and their inclusion of her, which almost bordered on something like friendship, Nezetta did prefer to maintain a proper decorum. Perhaps it was simply out of a desire to give the duke and his family the politeness they were owed or perhaps she just liked to maintain such a manner in order to keep them from growing weary or annoyed with her. She needed this job just as much as she loved it after all.

As her gaze lifted again, she flashed the girl a smile before addressing Cassemir. “That sounds lovely,” she said. “Thank you for the invitation.”
Tumblr media
“Wonderful.” Cassemir smiled. He certainly respected her desire to maintain propriety, but he also had come to think of her as a part of her family - or an extension of it at the very least. The woman was helping to raise his children, and that made her very important to both the duke and his wife.
Cassemir set his daughter on the ground, holding her hand all the while, and began to walk. “Have you been well?”

"We're almost done," Nezetta assured the other woman. "You can help unpack if you like but it won't take long either if you just want to wait."
Just as the words came out, they approached an open door. More servants moved inside, placing and unpacking luggage as was needed. Nezetta quickly ducked inside with the children in tow.
"If you really want to help," she added after a brief pause, though this time she spoke in more hushed tones. "You could entertain the children for me for awhile. Sitting all this time has done them absolutely no favors and I would like to get this done quickly."

The moment word of House Desmarais’ arrival reached Aphria’s ears, she had very quickly excused herself from whatever conversation her sister had tugged her into and headed off in search of her best friend. It had been far too long since she had been able to spend time with Nezetta; between the duties Aphria’s mother kept her tasked with and Nezetta’s role as governess to three young children, they were just too busy to see each other as regularly as Aphria would have liked.
She made sure to keep her speed at a respectable pace, but she hurried all the same, gaze scanning each person, nodding to the ones she recognized with a polite smile. However, her smile widened into a grin when she found the person she was looking for.
Tumblr media
She put on a quick burst of speed until she was at Nezetta’s side, linking her arm with her friend’s and giving it a tight squeeze.
“It took you long enough,” she said teasingly. “I was beginning to believe I would die of old age before you got here.”

"Oh," Nezetta had said regretfully when Genevieve had explained Aphria's predicament, but her expression seemed a little happier when Genevieve offered her own company in her sister's stead.
Nezetta could share her sentiment. Though she was particularly close with Aphria, she knew very little about Genevieve outside what she heard from her younger sister.
"That would be lovely," she said.

Nezetta calmed some as she looked up only to see Genevieve. She wouldn’t consider her and the woman particularly close but she knew her through Aphria. Despite her mistake, Genevieve wouldn’t be angry with her. She so rarely was.
“I’m late,” Nezetta explained, offering a small smile of gratitude when the woman addressed her so kindly, “to meet with your sister. I said I would meet her half an hour ago but I got caught up with something. I was just on my way to see if she’s still waiting.”
Tumblr media
Genevieve was always pleased to see a familiar face, even if it was only familiar due to a brief introduction. It was rare for the woman to meet a stranger, and even rarer for her to be upset by someone for something so trivial.
She chuckled at the blonde’s explanation. “Yes, that does explain it. Unfortunately, our mother called on her a few minutes ago and she is now occupied for the time being.” She offered a small smile. “But perhaps if you have the time now, you would like to accompany me? I would very much like to get to know you more.”

Nezetta smiled at the other woman as she let her cup fall from her lips. "Yes," she agreed. "It's truly beautiful."
As Nezetta looked around, she could tell a lot of thought and care had been put into every detail. Each decoration added to the joyous ambience and the food was excellent as well.
"One of the bests I have ever attended. Lady Genevieve and Lord Reuban certainly know how to throw a wonderful celebration."
Tumblr media
“I think the only people happier than I are the bride and groom,” Alessandra chuckled as she spoke to the person in front of her. Her brother’s wedding had been a happy occasion for all involved, and there was a piece of her glad that he would have less time to devote to worrying over her now. “This is a wonderful celebration, is it not?”

“Oh,” Nezetta said, instinctively dipping into a low curtsy. “I apologise. I was walking too fast. It’s my fault.”
As she stood again, she let her expression carry every bit of the sincerity she felt. It was her fault for being in such a needless hurry, after all. If she had only slowed down, she would have noticed the approaching footsteps coming from around the corner.

A quick breath of relief escaped the governess as she watched Aphria stir. Good. She was okay or alive, at least. Though, she seemed even more confused than Nezetta had been.
"I don't know exactly," Nezetta answered honestly. Her wrists twisted against the ropes, struggling to break themselves free, but the rough material only stung as it scraped against her skin. Whoever tied them wanted to make sure they could not use their hands to escape. "Just...stay calm. I'm sure we can figure something out, at least until someone comes for us."
If someone comes for us. Nezetta had no idea exactly how much time had passed but someone must have noticed they were missing by now, or at least they noticed Aphria was missing. Her mother would no doubt notice if Aphria didn't return to her bedchambers. Nezetta, on the other hand, wasn't due anywhere until the next morning.
"I'm sure your mother already has people out looking for you. We just have to buy some time until they find us."

Nezetta registered the strange sensations surrounding her before she even opened her eyes - the unfamiliar position of her bound arms, the strange scent to the air, the hard floor beneath her toppled body - but it took a moment longer to remember how it all happened. Whatever they had given her had made her mind slow and muddled as if waking from a too deep sleep too suddenly. Her limbs felt heavy as she stirred.
When the memories did come to her, however, they cut through her foggy mind all at once. The intencity of it seemed to shock her heart back to life, forcing it to resume its heavy beating.
She remembered walking towards the palace library. It was said to be a beautiful sight with walls filled to the brim with information and stories alike, each one beautifully bound and illustrated. Aphria had claimed that they simply had to see it and Nezetta wouldn’t have even thought of denying. They had waited until Nezetta’s services were no longer needed for the day before the two women had met up and made their way towards the library. They had almost arrived when the pirates had jumped them, and then she could remember nothing until this moment.
Aphria. Her name was Nezetta’s first thought as the memories registered in her mind. The governess twisted, eyes searching her surroundings until she found the familiar sight of ginger hair and pale blue fabric. She struggled to sit up with her arms tied behind her but eventually she managed it.
“Aphria,” she whispered though the word sounded harsh and urgent nonetheless. Just because she saw no others with them didn’t mean they weren’t waiting nearby. “Aphria.”

Nezetta laughed again but this time it was quieter. Her head shook lightly from side to side, a motion which displaced the curls that cascaded down the woman's back.
"We'll make up for it," she assured the other, shifting the box she carried in her arms. "I imagine that once everything is unpacked and settled, they'll dismiss me for the night. Perhaps we can meet up then? I'm not sure what there is to do here but I can't imagine we won't find something."

“Not at all,” Nezetta answered. The smile that has risen to her lips as the little girl lurched forward to meet her father lingered now. “She was very well behaved all day today.”
It was a nice contrast to their arrival. The children had not taken well to a long and boring trip and the new environment had left much to be explored by little hands and eyes. Unpacking had been a bit of a struggle as she fought to keep them out of things they should not have been playing with. Bringing them into the unpacking process in a fun, engaging way had helped for a bit but once playthings were brought up to her room, they became the focus of the younger ones’ attention.
They seemed to have fully adjusted now though. Ravenna had been perfect today and the boys had continued their usual routines with much more ease. Nezetta was thankful for it.
Tumblr media
“Good, good.” Cassemir grinned as Ravenna wrapped her arms around his neck. He looked up to her and said, “We shall have to get you a treat for being so well behaved.”
It was a common occurrence with the duke. Perhaps it was only because he had the ability, but the man loved to give anything to his children - but especially as a reward. He couldn’t count the amount of times he’d gone on a trip only to return with two or three gifts for each of his children and even more for his wife.
“Papa, papa!” Came the young girl’s voice. “Can Miss ‘zetta walk with us?” Cassemir then turned his attention to the governess with a smile. “Would you care to join us for a walk?”

A pleasant laugh escaped the governess as Aphria snaked an arm around her elbow. She and the other members of House Desmerais had not been at the castle long at all and Nezetta had immediately busier herself with the unpacking, both for herself and for the children who now followed her like ducklings as they made their way to their rooms with a few more servants in tow.
"You're so dramatic," she teased, strangely fearless for a woman who spoke to someone far above her station. A hint of her earlier laughter still lingered in her voice. "Though, I suppose it has been far too long, hasn't it?"

Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz as Simonetta Vespucci in Medici: Masters of Florence
Simonetta Vespucci nicknamed la bella Simonetta, was an Italian noblewoman from Genoa, the wife of Marco Vespucci of Florence and the cousin-in-law of Amerigo Vespucci. She was known as the greatest beauty of her age in Italy, and was allegedly the model for many paintings by Sandro Botticelli, Piero di Cosimo, and other Florentine painters.
