“Lily…” he responded, reaching up to wipe one of them away. When he went to pull his hand away, she pressed it back against her cheek, holding it there. “Lily,” he said again, that same look in his eyes. “I don’t know if I can be your partner on missions anymore…” she whispered, staring at him as her heart pounded. He furrowed his brows and pulled his hand back, though neither of them let go, their hands tangled messily together. “Why?” He sounded so hurt, she was sure he didn’t understand. He hadn’t seen the look in her eyes. Her heart was in her throat now, but she thought of them lying with the broken bits of building, thought of fate. “Because…” Maybe all they’d ever have was this night in this quiet house, for once away from the madness. But she needed it all the same. Needed to feel for herself what those looks meant. Swallowing hard, she twisted her hand around to lace their fingers firmly together, and tugged him forward. They fell together like they’d always been meant to, his free hand coming to her waist, her hand reaching up to tangle in his hair. When their lips met, Lily was sure this was the first time she was truly breathing. His mouth was astonishingly soft, and she wanted to cry with relief at the feel of it. “James,” she mumbled against him, and he moaned softly, and she was floating.

Hello, semi-new reader here! You have upcoming fics called Eternal Summer and Love for the summer titles with have similar vibes. I assume both are set in the summertime before 7th year? Can I ask how those fics summary differ cause I keep on getting them mixed up?? (only if you’d like to share) ❤️

Hello! Welcome! Aha I'm so sorry, this was very confusing of me 😂 But yes, I'm happy to share and clarify!

Eternal Summer is my big canon seventh year (potentially also post-Hogwarts) multi-chapter fic. I initially posted it January 2021 through January 2022, and have since taken it down to embark on rewriting it. Despite its title, it's not summery 😅 It was initially inspired by rewatches of Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries, so those shows' aesthetics and tone have largely informed this fic. It's dramatic, a little dark, a little soapy, a lot smutty, etc.

The title itself comes from song lyrics, but I later realized the phrase is also in Sonnet 18, which was a very kismet thing for me. The way the phrase is used both in the song and the sonnet is to evoke nostalgia ("and if our days are numbered, we'll find eternal summer, I see it all in bright color" / "but thy eternal summer shall not fade"), and this is also how it's meant to function as a title. It's about hindsight and that feeling of a certain time (in this case, Jily's seventh year) being just the height of happiness. Though it wasn't without challenges, I see their seventh year as a really golden time for them. It was the only year Jily got to be together as a couple in Hogwarts, and it was their last year all together as friends in that way you only have in a very picturesque, insulated school environment. For this cast of characters, seventh year is an "eternal summer" in their mind that they yearn for and dream of finding again after they leave Hogwarts.

Love for the Summer is not overtly connected to ES, but is subconsciously connected, both for me and (I think) a lot of readers. I started writing LFTS in the spring/summer of 2021 when ES was updating, and it was really just an outlet for me to write plotless and indulgent fluff and smut 😂 But because we were suffering from the angst of ES at the time, it kind of felt like/was perceived as a "fix-it" fic of ES?

But that history aside, LFTS is a standalone light-hearted, fluffy, steamy, rom-com kind of fic that has allll the summery vibes. Really, it's just a place for me to indulge myself in a bunch of summery tropes with Jily being super lovey and having no drama 🥹 The title is also from a song, but this one's far less deep and is really just a summer bop.

Do you think, canonically, James dated and had sex with someone before he went out with Lily (but after SWM)?

So my answer is really the same thing I said here, which is that I don't have a hard-line opinion either way on this, and I've written it in a variety of ways to explore all the different emotional dynamics at play with different scenarios. It's definitely plausible he did, and it's also plausible he didn't 🤷‍♀️

So I’m a little confused by this question. If you’re asking about previous partners before Jily get together, I don’t have any firm hc’s about that and have explored both options (i.e., having previous partners vs being each other’s first time) in my fics. But if you’re asking about James not getting with Lily, then I definitely I don’t have any hc about that because Jily is my OTP and they will always be endgame in my stuff.

kingsley shacklebolt is minister for magic, and james doesn't have to (re)practice his patronus charms because it's a tall, bushy-eyebrowed auror who leads him down the poorly lit corridor and not a swarm of hooded barbarities who want to suck out his soul. the auror leaves him by a cell almost to the end of the hallway, and there's nothing at first, just varying shades of darkness everywhere james turns, the echoing beats of water dripping, the muffled rage of waves around the island. he thinks he can hear laughter from somewhere close — a cold, high-pitched female giggling — and he considers just walking out because — christ. this place is mad. but then there's movement from the corner, behind the bars, and then he's in front of him, and james... doesn't know. feels a lot of things. wants to punch him, most of all.

"prongs," says wormtail. no — peter. peter pettigrew. his voice is a scratchy whisper, his face sunken, and his hair a long wispy dead mess. he's thinner than james has ever seen him.

"shut up," says james, voice low. he feels the urge to back away one step, not expecting peter to cling on to the bars and hungrily squeeze his face through them to see him.

"prongs." he says it so reverently, like a god's name. "i'm — what are you — " he's surveying james up and down, drinking in anything he can from beyond azkaban. "prongs, fuck, i'm so happy you're here — "

"i said shut up. i didn't come here for you."

peter looks surprised, then hurt, then his grip on the metal loosens as a maniacal grin starts to spread on his lips. "clearly, you did. you can't help it. dear god, i can't believe i almost gave up."

james blinks at him in incredulity. "what?"

"i am sorry, prongs. i am. and i knew you'd know that, i knew you'd come back for me, but it's been so long — "

james starts to laugh. "are you insane?"

I'm roughly 6k away from finishing LFTS and I'm having a lot of emotions about that 🥺 That's less than my usual one-shots. That's like…two scenes in ES. I feel like when you think about 6k of words on its own, it's like holy shit that's a lot, but then when you keep plugging along and plugging along and one day you look up and you're nearly at 50k, all of a sudden 6k feels small? It's not a mountain anymore—it's a final stretch. And there's a letting go in that, in finishing a story, that I often find difficult. It's like I want to hold on, because I'm not ready to leave this world behind, but I'm also ready to be done because I've been working on it so long, but I'm also sad that it's ending, so I want to put off ending it? I'm trying to push through, because I know I'll also be thrilled and so proud when I type that last word and get to read it all back and share it with you. But gahh the emotions of finishing a multi-chap are such a rollercoaster.

Sometimes all it takes is champagne and a slow dance, and then there's no going back.

i don't think this particular interest would come into play until after harry is born, because y'know, like i said, harry was most likely an accident given the situation at the time, and i doubt they had even given the idea of trying for a baby much thought (again, considering the circumstances). at the time, they're two 19 year olds who are young and in love with each other, but they're also on the front lines of a catastrophic war. concerning their sex life at that point, i'd say they were just obsessed with each other and were constantly high from the adrenaline of actively fighting in a war, so i can't picture them having the time or mental capacity or even desire to spice up their sex life; their brains were likely just like, "i love you and you're hot as fuck and also holy shit we almost just died, let's fuck crazy style Right Now."

now this is probably more reasonable (and happier) to think about in the confines of an Everyone Lives AU. but about what i mentioned earlier, about it not coming up until after harry is born, i actually think the seed (ha) for it is planted when lily becomes pregnant. with lily, it's not uncommon for women to experience a higher libido while pregnant (iirc, around second trimester?) so that already makes sense. but for james specifically, i think it's more of the psychological effect of him looking at lily pregnant (caveman brain ooga booga) and just thinking, "wow. my beautiful sexy hot wife is carrying our child. i helped create the life she's nurturing right now." and also something about it sort of being this tangible evidence that they belong to each other, mind, body and soul? it flips a switch in him. also i think he's just so obsessed with her that he probably think that she looks super hot pregnant, lmfao.

skipping ahead (post harry birth), something that makes me laugh is the idea of how it's brought up between them. again, i think both of them are individually pretty into the concept already, but bringing up something like that can feel so fucking awkward. i like to imagine that it's a total accident, and it happens during sex, like, literally mid-thrust, and one of them- probably james, definitely james- is just so in the moment, that it slips out. like, it's SO sudden and baffling, he probably says something like, "god, lils, i wanna fuck you until you're pregnant again," or something like that, and they both just stop and take a few moments to process. poor james, he's humiliated, but she consoles him by letting him know she thinks it's hot and he's like, oh thank GOD.

i don't think them having a breeding kink would necessarily mean they have this constant desire to get lily pregnant, although, i don't think they'd be incredibly opposed to it either. i think it's more of the general concept, like i mentioned earlier- that it's evidence of how committed they are to each other and they both find that so incredibly sexy. and it bleeds into a lot of their sex, specifically in how they talk to each other; like lily telling james she really wants him to cum inside her, and him telling her how he's going to fill her up, or how he wants to make sure it all stays in so that none of it goes to waste (my face is so red rn, i'm so sorry). specifically, i think he'd describe to her in detail about what he finds so sexy about the thought of her being pregnant- her tits getting bigger? her higher sex drive? the thought of her starting to show? all of the above? this man's a freak.
