finn’s performance in the monologue scene is great, actually.
it’s not meant to be believable monologue, just a believable performance - if you actually understand what is happening.
what is actually happening is someone desperately trying to find the words he doesn’t actually mean for the sake of his loved one. it’s a character who is lying with good intentions, despite only worsening the situation in the long run.
once you understand that, you’ll see his performance is actually amazing.
he isn’t a bad actor, people just aren’t connecting the dots. they’re not actually listening to what he is saying or paying attention to what the show tells them.
finn’s a fucking phenomenal actor. i mean, come on, that breakdown in s2??
i, in fact, finished this before stranger things day ended (okay i finished it like 5 min before it ended)!!! ANYWAY. i saw this tweet and i just HAD TO draw it. so heres my version of how i see this scenario happening! hope you like it <3 (haha funny i drew byler art back to back)

Lifeguard Will Byers is getting extremely annoyed by the boy with black hair and beautiful brown eyes that he had to rescue for the second time and invites him to go take private swimming lessons with him not knowing that was kind of Mike's plan from the start
