au where everything is practically the same except adrien and marinette know each other’s secret identities

• after ladybug and chat noir’s first couple of missions together, chat suggest to ladybug that they share each other’s secret identities. • ladybug is reluctant since she wants to keep her civilian life and superhero life separate. • chat noir rationalizes that it’d be smart to know who the other is in case of dire emergency (say, one of them becomes akumatized and they need to protect each other’s miraculous) • ladybug sees his point and they count to three, releasing their transformations at the same time. • marinette blushes; she recognizes adrien from his many modeling ads around paris, and some of the posters she has up in her room. • adrien is excited to know marinette. other than chloe, she is the first kid his age that he has come in contact with. • they go over to marinette’s house and hang out. they play video games together, eat pastries and laugh when their knee jerk reaction to an akuma appearing is finding an excuse to hide so they can transform. • adrien and tikki get on spectacularly well because they both have sweet tooths. marinette and plagg like to snark jokes at each other, but more often than not marinette has cheese available for plagg in her bag. tikki and plagg prefer marinette’s purse of treats to hang in. • soon after, adrien starts school. he’s excited to be in the same class as his superhero partner. he can’t help but throw conspiratory winks and smirks in her direction when no one is looking. marinette rolls her eyes at him, a smile on her face. • they pretend they hadn’t met each other before adrien started school, to keep up appearances. (where else would they had met if adrien had been rich and homeschooled?) • they’re able to get away with it, except alya knows marinette too well. she knows marinette had a tiny crush on the model and was 100% ready to see her blushing and stuttering around him. she’s surprised to see marinette shrug off her crush and be normal around adrien. • adrien quickly befriends nino. he’s never befriended another boy of the same age so he spends most of his time listening to his mixes or seeing what he likes to film. (he loves to playback the marinette footage) • while marinette has alya and adrien has nino, adrien and marinette still spend a hefty amount of time together at school. easily identified as very close friends. • ex: when the hat competition rolls around, adrien offers his support and sits with her and alya during lunch to help marinette brainstorm some ideas (he isn’t pleased about the pigeon feathers, but marinette laughs and promises to attache faux feathers since he will be modeling the hat) • marinette comforts adrien when his dad doesn’t come to career day by bringing him his favorite treat from the bakery. • marinette hands adrien a handmade scarf for his birthday in person and adrien hugs her so tight she thinks she’s stopped breathing. • adrien teaches and helps marinette prep on her mandarin when her uncle comes to town and stays till he’s gone just in case marinette has trouble with certain words. • adrien and marinette tag team drag chloe when she starts being mean to people. they high five instead of pounding it when she storms off in anger.

AS FOR SUPERHERO GOODNESS: • adrien and marinette take turns covering for each other when an akuma appears. one of them will leave first and then the other will appear on the scene a couple minutes later. • ‘my lady’ nickname comes about during patrol. adrien is thinking of a good nickname for her and when it clicks, he just can’t stop. marinette tries to stop him but that just enables him to think of even more embarrassing nicknames (bugaboo, lassie, etc) until marinette admits my lady is the lesser of all the evils. • adrien gets a kick out of the evillustrator epiosde by making up the princess nickname for marinette. marinette rolls her eyes at adrien’s chat show of pretending he hasn’t met marinette before. flirting with her and acting like he’s her knight in shining armor in front of Nathanael cause he thinks the situation is super hilarious. marinette promptly reminding him that she’s ladybug and getting them out of the box they get trapped in. • marinette feels the kitty nickname come naturally, since he adopts all his kitten like tendencies in costume. she loves scratching him and making him purr because it makes him blush when she teases him about it when they’re out of costume.

love square goodness: • adrien falls for marinette first. it takes a while to realize, but when he starts realizing she’s the first and last thing he thinks about in the day, he knows he’s a goner. • he ups their banter during battle into flirting, but marinette just thinks he’s being silly in kissing her hand. that he is trying to play another game: suoerheroes in love. (she doesn’t find his sacrificing himself for her particularly funny, and they have serious fights about his recklessness in protecting just her) • this is saddening to adrien, but being chat is when he feels brave enough to say anything romantic to marinette. as adrien, he can talk to marinette about anything (his distant father, not feeling as good as ladybug, video games, akumas, his stressful schedule, etc), and he is never shy about expressing how glad he is that she’s his friend and partner. but his words die out when he looks into her blue bell eyes and tries to confess how deeply he loves her. • he is crushed during the copycat episode when marinette says she knew theo was the copycat bc he was the one with the crush on her. he doesn’t know what to do to get marinette to see how much he likes her. • when he tries to confess on Valentine’s Day, she’s shocked when he pulls her close by the waist and calls her marinette while they’re in costume. adrien loses his nerve after the akuma is defeated, feeling horrible about telling marinette she meant nothing to him when he was akumatized. • marinette buried whatever crush she had on adrien prior to discovering he was chat noir deep deep in her heart. • she doesn’t want to jeopardize their partnership or their friendship, thinking it’s the smartest choice not to even think of adrien as a romantic interest with so much at stake with hawkmoth around. • still, she can’t deny he’s the most handsome, and best guy she has ever met. • it becomes harder to push down her feelings for him when she gives him true love’s kiss on Valentine’s Day. she’s relieved they don’t talk much about that particularly mission afterwards. • (she completely loses it when they almost kiss for the horrificator movie. she was doing so well at pretending she didn’t want to kiss him again CRAP) • (adrien isn’t much better. marinette told him she kissed him to break the akuma spell on valentine’s, and he wants more than anything to know what that was like. hope that marinette feels something for him too) • basically they trust each other more than anything but run around in circles and are in denial when it comes to their romantic feelings for each other. • and everyone knows that they’re in love and are just waiting for them to stop being stupid and just KISS • (alya is still the best wingwoman and mysteriously makes herself and nino disappear when the four friends made plans to got to the movies together. unfortunately an akuma attacked so that date never got past the ticket line.) • (marinette’s parents wholeheartedly approve of adrien and marinette blushes and tries to make them stop at their non-subtle ways of doting on adrien with sweets & pointing out that she doesn’t have a boyfriend) • (gabriel agreste likes marinette best out of all of adrien’s friends. best meaning the only friend he allows to come into his home. he likes her dedication to fashion and thinks she’s a good influence at encouraging adrien to stay in the fashion world) (marinette idolized him for the longest time but is team adrien always and doesn’t like how constricting gabriel is with adrien) ( i.e. how do you hate nino he is one of the best people ever and your son’s best friend letninocomeover2k16) • (plagg is even more done with adrien since it’s clear to him marinette returns his feelings but humans just can’t deal with love at all) • (tikki is always trying to ease marinette into thinking about adrien and what he means to her, but marinette fervently denies she loves him as anything more than as a best friend.)

• the ladrien stare is at the peak of marinette accepting that she does in fact like adrien. (why is he looking at me like that why can’t I look away adrien get out of the car and transform!) • adrien is extra touchy with marinette during that akuma. a doting smile on his face as she swings away before they meet up again for the mime show. marinette gets jittery in sitting next to him and she just wants to calm down but alya won’t stop nudging and laughing at her so rude. • nino at one point DOES have a crush on marinette and adrien is extremely conflicted about it but helps nino anyways. he’s convinced marinette doesn’t return his feelings so he tries to make his two closest friends happy. he is deeply relieved once nino gets over his crush.

Chat Noir was on his way to the rendezvous point with Ladybug when his baton indicated he had a call. Stopping on the next roof, he pulled out his baton to answer the call. Not surprisingly it was Ladybug. While he didn’t expect a call from her she was the only one who would be able to call him.

Sometimes one of them would be in the middle of familial obligations when they were suppose to be on patrol and called to let their partner know how long they expected to be. Still, when Ladybug’s face appeared on the small screen Chat Noir had a hunch this wasn’t going to be a call stating she was a little late.

“Hey there,” Ladybug greeted, her voice sounding a little rough.

He felt like his suspicions were not unfounded hearing her voice. Still he tried to be pleasant. “Hi Bugaboo, is everything alright?“

Ladybug smirked in a knowing way, which did put some of the more irrational worries to rest.  “Just a touch of a cold. Nothing to worry about, but my kwami suggested I not push it unless there’s an actual akuma threat. You don’t mind patrolling alone tonight, do you?”

“Not at all my Lady,” he told her, even as he wondered if a cold was going around. He remembered how miserable Marinette had been in class all day even though she tried to not show it. He wondered if his Lady would be normally the same way. He was glad her kwami was advising her not to push herself if she was unwell. “You just take care of yourself, alright?”

Even as he was saying those words he heard a different voice faintly over on Ladybug’s side. “Marinette, your tea is ready. Come down stairs!”

Barely able to process what he heard, Ladybug’s voice quickly caught his attention once more.  “Thanks, see you later, gotta go.” And before he could say a word she had shut off communication.

Perplexed, Chat Noir flopped down on the roof he’d been standing on looking at his baton. Had he heard correctly? He must have.  Why else would his lady panic? But if he heard right, his lady was named Marinette, and bad luck aside, there was little chance it was a coincidence, right?

Soon, Chat Noir didn’t know what to do with himself, a nervous energy coursing through him as he jumped back up on his feet. Should he go see her? No, she didn’t want them to know each other’s identity. However it was too late for that, right?

Feeling antsy Chat Noir decided the best thing to do was to just start running. Going across rooftops and leaping over the gaps between buildings, flying over roads and alleyways, Adrien tried to figure out how he felt.

Marinette was Ladybug. Ladybug’s mother called her down to tea. He was pretty sure that had been Sabine Cheng’s voice, which would make sense since that was Marinette’s mother!

Adrien was feeling a bit overwhelmed. And when had he gotten to the Louvre? It was time to try to take things slower. He circled around the property of the once palace turned museum.

Marinette. Marinette Dupain-Cheng. The girl that sat behind him in class. Class representative. Alya’s best friend. Wait, the Ladyblogger’s best friend was actually Ladybug? No, no, he needed to stay focused.

Marinette. Who was always trying to do right by everyone. Who was so talented. Man, if Chloé ever found out… No, no, he was doing it again!

Chat Noir found himself across from Notre Dame and tried to take a deep breath. With determination he lept to the great church. His mind was still racing. Why? Because he finally knew his Lady’s identity? Because it was Marinette? He paced, then sat beside a gargoyle. He leaned and looked down below, almost one with the church decor.

His mind wandered to the times he saved Marinette as Chat Noir, but those were but short moments. There was much more times together laughing and having fun. Concerts and movies and pictures and making up for bad first impressions. There was times where he got to see her shine and times when she worried. He was always happy to be near her.

Marinette was his friend!

Like the thunder that rolled over their heads when he made peace with her, it came to him and there was peace within him. More. There was joy!

Suddenly Chat Noir laughed in glee. Marinette was his friend! Just like Ladybug was. Well, not exactly, but she was a constant enjoyment, even when sometimes he didn’t understand her. She was amazing and brilliant, and …

LADYBUG!

Oh! Some of those moments, how similar they were on both sides now that he was looking. All those moment though. All those times together. All those firsts.

It was late by the time Adrien had done his normal circuit around the city.There was but one place to go now and Adrien didn’t even have to think how to get where he was going. It was only when he landed on the rooftop balcony that he started to fret. While he honestly believed everything would turn out for the best, he wasn’t sure if she’d believe it just yet.

Timidly he walked over to the window hatch and looked down. Below he saw Marinette, Ladybug,  going up to her bed looking up at him. It was going to be harder than he thought. She didn’t look at all pleased to see him, yet she opened the window.

Maybe it would work out after all?

He expected the night to be awkward. He did not expect that him revealing his identity to Marinette would be so wonderful!  When the next day came around, and Adrien felt a bit stuffy in the head, and sleepy because he stayed up far too late talking and snuggling up to the most amazing girl that he knew, he didn’t care! He was floating on cloud nine and at least the noticeable beginning stages of a cold excused his inattentiveness throughout the day. Nino and his other friends were fooled, as were the teachers. Not Marinette though. But then again, she wasn’t exactly focused either so she wasn’t about to call him out.
