My dearest friend,

As promised, I would write to you when we were settled and we very much are. Edwin, Kate and I have made a home in Chennai, where his family are from. They are the kindest, most welcoming people. I was afraid his mother would be like mine, but she hugged me tightly and welcomed me. I have felt more at home here than I did in Hertfordshire.

I am with child. That is why I am writing this letter, to share this most joyous news with you. I am hoping for a boy, but Edwin believes we will have another girl. ate is excited - she follows me everywhere and would really like a sister. I visited her mother's grave yesterday, to pay my respects and let her know that I will take care of Kate and Edwin, but will not let them forget her.

I block pre-emptively because if you're a sack of shit to someone else, I don't want to know you. And I recommend doing that en masse.

Mary choked as she swept her into a tight embrace. She held fast as Kate's sobs took over her body, tears soaking through Mary's gown. "I did. I did leave. And I'm so sorry I did. It was never my intention to leave you alone. You are mine, mine to protect, mind to keep safe. You are my daughter. And I am sorry, I can never make up for the years you felt that loneliness."

"Uncle Colin!" The twins chimed, stopping their colouring and running to hug him. Colin faked a groan, lifting the two three-year-olds up in each of his arms.

Marina smiled fondly, "They missed you. In fact, why don't you keep them?" She suggested.

Colin laughed, hugging the twins closer to him, "I would happily! Mandy, can you and Ollie fit in a suitcase?"
